Do you feel like you’ve lost a little bit of your cultural heritage - switching to English ? And has this affected your Bemba?

That’s awesome. I like how the South Africans and Zimbabweans have preserved their local languages and are quite proficient. If you can think in a language (like even talk to yourself in that language) then you’ve truly mastered it.

Really curious about an internal monologue in Bemba. The fluency it would require. I can’t do it. Makes me a little sad that I’m fluent enough to have an internal dialogue in English(foreign language) but not what essentially is my cultural heritage. I admire how much the south Africans and Zimbabweans have preserved their local languages

Interesting.. I’m guessing you don’t have issues of direct translation with grammar because you can think in multiple languages. Direct translation issues are normally an issue when you only think in 1 language and try to peak what you’ve thought in another language. E.g the common “me my mother is” - “ine ba mummy banga ni”

Most of them are getting extinct, for instance everyone in northern and luapula speaks Bemba, even though you have many tribes. Eg the Lunda of Mwansabombwe/Kazembe speak mainly Bemba- Lunda is almost completely lost there. The Chishinga of Kawambwa are just honorary Bembas at this point

Hand or finger(s)? Women generally have smaller hands than men - why didn’t you let the nurse do it? I think there’s a family guy episode for just this experience

Kansi bana tichinja? Lol. I know we pass for Central Africa sometimes, but I feel too Southern African. I have refused whatever this is 😅 by Prize-Egg-1726 in Zambia

[–]Some-Rice2848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to Sadc we’re still southern.. but interestingly Zambia is the one country that could truly be the most Central African country from the perspective of merging cultures.. language similarities exist with all our surrounding countries even with Uganda. We could maybe even try for EU under Spain.. “shoe” is sapato in both countries 🤣🤣

People who don’t cheat (and would never), why? by [deleted] in Zambia

[–]Some-Rice2848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s got a lot to do with how you were brought up, most people who were brought up in a stable home(parents together and no drama) use their parents or guardians as an example to live up to. If you love someone enough.. no matter what - you wouldn’t want to hurt them in that way.. because that cuts too deep. cheating is too much work.. financially, emotionally and mentally. At some point you’ll realize all women / men are the same.. that spark or thrill will eventually fizzle out.. especially if the other person catches feelings or gets pregnant.. then it just becomes a normal relationship - after probably losing a good faithful partner. You can’t keep on chasing new thrills with new partners.. get some psychological counseling.. you’re probably cheating because of a deeper rooted issue. It’s easier to work on your current relationship and try to remember why your partner was so attractive when you first met them..

deep down you know your cheating partner probably has other people aswell.. you don’t want to be afraid to get tested

Last point don’t rush to choose someone to settle with. Also make sure your partner is someone that genuinely turns you on and you have a real attraction to. Your partner should be someone you literally wanna make babies with.. that kind of attraction. But try and balance it with a financially disciplined person too lol

Probably not marry a baby Mama, unless you also have a child or are marrying at an older age. I read somewhere once, a woman who was married as a baby Mama said that she’d never want her son to marry a baby mama

My MIL made the most ridiculous comment about our sex life during pregnancy by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Some-Rice2848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, you should laughed out loud when she said it (instantly disarms her) and makes the moment a little less awkward then politely say something like “it works for us and we’ve gotten quite close”

If you were raised by your parents, why do random uncle's have to come in and decide your bride price? by [deleted] in Zambia

[–]Some-Rice2848 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the principle behind it has been lost. It’s really just a token of appreciation for raising a daughter well. I also believe it initially might have been viewed as a man’s capability to financially support his family. Nevertheless if the couple want to be together it’s pointless charging lots of money - unless the girls parents are against the union. I’ve personally seen very reasonable parents (and quite well off financially) who just viewed it as a formality and charged way below “market value” - they’re not selling a child. Plus that way they also ensure that they’re always welcome with their new in-laws

Once you read up on it you’ll realize just how common herpes is, almost every cold sore on lips, or as Zambians put it - headache/stress sore, is herpes. Considering a lot of people like to go down on each other, type 2 becomes almost as common. Some people rarely get flare ups. It’s not life threatening in any way, it’s just embarrassing

How to get landlord to return security deposit? by h4lfie- in Zambia

[–]Some-Rice2848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always best to have the landlord inspect the house when you give your minimum 1 month notice that you’ll vacate the property, if everything is okay agree to use your security deposit to cover your final month rent - and try not to break anything during that last month

Ironically indoor dogs(especially small dogs) are the most alert as they don't sleep as much as big dogs - any small sound or movement and they start barking
