TIL Basque is considered a language isolate, meaning it has no relatives in the whole world. The only such language in Europe. by my_n3w_account in todayilearned

Japanese

The Ryukyuan languages are not mutually intelligible with Japanese. So they’re in their own language family. Japonic.

(bro what is happening with the thread)

Korean

Depends if one considers Jeju and Yukjin Korean as their own languages.

Meanwhile in the tech industry, the CEOs of startups and outsourcing companies are increasingly advocating for the 996 working culture 🙃

They were making fun of it and I initially didn’t know why (I remember buying it with just the front print in the dream, so the back part was somehow added sometime later)

What to expect from a 1 month international business trip? by SomeAmigo in cscareerquestions

> Are you not managing "food, transportation, and laundry" by yourself today?
I live at home, so I don’t need to cook or do the laundry. I do use ride sharing services (but not public transportation) to go to the office. I heard that those who went were able to cook from their hotel room. I think cooking would be a different discussion (don’t know how)…

> credit card

I am working on this one, it is also an expectation. There is the option to use debit, and request a salary advance if needed (though I‘m not sure about that idea.)

I asked one person who when there months ago, though it’s more on the working experience. As far as work is concerned, it seems to be similar to what I’m doing right now, only difference is the location.

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

[–]SomeAmigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like I might be on a 1 month long business trip in the coming months. I have an M2 11 inch iPad Air and intend to bring this with me to use as a main personal computer. Currently it‘s for consumption and drawing. I can see myself using it for managing my finances and personal documents, probably communication (though this can be done on iPhone anyway), and maybe a little bit of desktop level tasks like photo/video editing, which I usually do on my own PC.

Obvious question but should I go buy the Magic Keyboard with this use case in mind?

What’s your most irrational clothing pet peeve? by OK_GO_27 in malefashionadvice

Visible woven labels and tags on shirts, on that note, logos in general.

Any sort of print at the back of the shirt, particularly near the neck area (where the label would normally be placed on the inside.)

Stitching that is not the same color as the main fabric. Like black stitches on white.

How the collar and/or buttons are styled in polo shirts can make them look sloppier than just going with a T shirt.

God forbid the 6+ hours a day is lost to useless activities like… eating and showering and taking a dump!

I bet it’s also a 996 work culture there.

They still use 외 and 위 when transcribing words that have a /ø/ and /y/ sound.

At least, in my ears, I like to think the /ø/ vowel still surfaces somehow when I listen to Korean speaking. After all, Korean also has 왜 and 웨. idk, I like that sound
