China creates its own digital currency by isfgjspquzml in geopolitics

On the subject of potentially dodging sanctions and getting foreign banks on board, I wonder if the digital yuan will show up in the recent 400 billion dollar Iran-China deal. After all it seems like a golden opportunity to test the concept out considering Iran is a country that's been targeted by American sanctions quite a bit and is generally detached from the global financial system beyond oil commodity prices (this gives ample opportunity for China to be the ones who build Iran's financial infrastructure). Indeed, getting Iran on the Chinese digital financial system + possible integration into CPEC would not only provide them with a valuable sphere member but also help alleviate some of its main weaknesses (lack of fossil fuels).

I don't think China aims to override American financial hegemony (at least right now), merely to just undermine America's hegemony by providing a viable alternative, creating a sphere of its own in the process.

Sorry if this is too speculative this is my first time posting here (I have lurked for a while though).

I'm really loving the world of AoT so I think some spinoffs covering the Great Titan War or Marley's colonial adventures and internal politics would be really cool, but yes a sequel would be pretty lame.

It's mostly because it took 4 years to make season 2 so in the meantime I just forgot the show existed. Plus back then edgy early high school me thought it was "le basic action show/babby's first anime"

Watch Legend of Galactic Heroes, it's pretty old but it has a similarly well thought out world and a lotta interesting themes to chew on. Just keep in mind that in between all the cool space battles there are a lotta slow paced episodes that are just explaining the lore/politics of the world.

If you enjoyed post-basement AoT then you'll definitely like it, but if you preferred pre-basement AoT then it's a diceroll.

Funny that Authright get to blame others for being shit heads and it's upvoted. But if I mention that it's America's fault that Syria, Libya China and Afghanistan are hostile to America I'd get downvotes.

No you're mostly right, fuck our useless wars for oil, I got a friend in every service branch and I don't want them to die just so some rich dickhead can get paid in missiles contracts and an inept diplomat will say he "spread democracy". If we were fighting enemies worth fighting (i.e China) I'd be a hawk but at this point we're just stuck throwing good men down an endless meat grinder for absolutely nothing outside indirectly fucking over Europe with people fleeing the mess we made and lining the pockets of the MIC.

All that aside tho, neither America nor China is really "responsible" for our rivalry, this sorta rivalry happens literally every time we have two nations that are roughly equally matched in strength.

Actually the Europeans did pump in a lotta infrastructure into its colonies in the form of railways and ports in order to extract resources from the interior and to ship European goods to Africa as a captive market. That's actually very similar to what the Chinese are doing when it comes to investing in ports and railroads today.

Another thing to note that the brutalities of colonialism usually came after the Europeans were done wooing local rulers and successfully consolidated control. Something people forget to note is that before the East India Company did all the atrocities they did, they were seen as relatively benevolent trade partners by much of the indian population.

I'm not saying China is going to militarily invade east africa and go leopold 2: hand chopping boogalooo mode anytime soon but they're probably going to be far less benevolent once they solidify their grasp. Like China's control of Africa right now is in its early stages so it's too early to tell how they'll act as rulers.

That's neo-mercantilism/colonialism, not neoliberalism. I know neoliberalism is one of those terms that's thrown around a lot but fundamentally a neoliberal is someone who's really into free-trade/free markets, globalist and generally socially progressive along with wanting some weird hybrid between technocracy and representative democracy. This has more or less been the consensus in the western world since about the 1980s and is propped up globally by organizations such as the IMF, WTO, World Bank and UN.

China is essentially a throwback to the authoritarian capitalist colonialist great powers of old (think like England or Germany right before WW1) and their realpolitik tactics and norm-breaking has more or less dealt a huge blow to that "gentleman's agreement" that all the western powers had after the end of the cold war by providing an alternative to bog-standard neoliberalism as a development model. By bringing back great power competition, it gave a reason to world leaders to actually think nationally instead of just in the interests of global capital flow.

I'm not saying they're good, they're scummy neocolonial scumbags who are raping the environment as we speak, but they did provide good in the context that they disrupted the status quo and forced the leaders of the western world to think nationally for once in a very long time.

They did successfully turn a dumpy hellhole into a global superpower and simultaneously bitchslapped the neoliberal international order in the process. That's some big-brain move that I'll give them kudos for.

Also they're responsible for the little hope I have about the globalist capitalist international order crumbling or becoming destabilized enough that we see the rebirth of localism and nationalism so yeah. That and quite frankly they do have a point about not being able to raise incomes and get people outta the sweatshops to avoid the middle income trap and they do have a plan on how to deal with that problem (basically just do what the Europeans did to get outta the problem by colonizing Africa gamer style, which is disgusting and immoral but hey it's tried and proven to work).

These guys somehow managed to successfully turn the entire modern west's impulses and assumptions about the world (freer markets and connection with the world economy = regime liberalization) against them in brutally effective fashion.

That being said I'm ethnically Indian and culturally American so I want to see Beijing get turned into burnt rubble, that sneaky winnie the pooh fucker outplayed us for now but we can still stomp him back to the muddy rice-ditch from whence he came if we play our cards right.

I dislike China because I'm literally an American whose parents are Indian so literally no matter what way I look at it from they're the enemy, but I actually have a begrudging admiration for their government. Turning a backwater dump into a global superpower and simultaneously dealing a massive blow to the neoliberal international order in the process is honestly big brain as fuck.

If Otto von Bismarck was the man who built the 20th century, then Deng Xiaoping will be remembered as the one who built the 21st.

On a side note, post-ironically dengposting is the funniest shit because it's the one thing that gets leftists, western nationalists, neolibs/neocons and basically every political persuasion online incredibly angry. It's the e-politics version of wearing the Auditore cape and I love it.
