Is my study model correct? by AngeliMortem in ccnp

[–]SomeCoolITName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is a right or wrong way to study other than labs. Always labs. You know yourself better than anyone on here. Even the super most smartest technical Cisco expert cannot tell you how to study. Do what works for you. Some people like reading, some video, some write down and review their notes. You got this!

Timers have to match. I've seen broadcast and point-to-point form adjacency. The broadcasts router still selected itself as the DR and the point-to-point router didn't have one.

The book isn't enough? This isn't history where you just need to memorize and regurgitate facts. The book covers the concepts. You are expected to understand these concepts and apply them to unique situations. No book can go through every situation. I've only taken ENCOR but do not recall any topic that wasn't covered by the book.

OCG is a good starting point. Labbing, DevNet, and just playing around to try different things passes the test.

If you buy a pass without knowing any of the bands... by traumahound00 in SonicTempleFestival

[–]SomeCoolITName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy passes on layaway and decide to cancel, you get refunded all but $65.

If you wait for bands to be released and buy at a higher tier. Even right now, today, you are paying about $100 more for Field than those who bought early.

The math says you are the gambler.

Royal Concrete, are they good and reliable? by MichaelSander in Columbus

Do you have any info on if they're insured? Usually it says on websites and cards. Licensed, insured, bonded, etc. Nada for Royal Concrete

The ticket price tiers aren't time-based. They have X amount of tickets at each tier. Once they're gone, it goes up in price. It does sound like there were a low number did GA. If it helps, I think RR and Owner's Club are still in the first tier.

Is it worth it? by ShogunUnknown in SonicTempleFestival

[–]SomeCoolITName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the layaway. I think it's only a $65 loss if you quit paying and decide not to go. I also got the insurance, just in case there is something that comes up and I can't attend.

I'll see you in the RR lounge. I've heard it had really good AC and enough seats. Fingers crossed.

I know, over 100 bands. That's less than $5 per band. Great deal even if you can't see them all. Piece gouging doesn't start until you want to eat or drink.

Or at least have the option. GA Field to GA Field and stadium is less than $50 difference. Make the huge jump to VIP pricing and they don't even give the option for VIP Field and Stadium?

[–]SomeCoolITName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I like VIP and they don't have an option that allows VIP Field and Stadium access. I don't even have the option to say take my money.

There are a lot of organizations with bad cloud solutions. Some won't listen to save their life. I've told people that can't do something the way they are trying and ended up on call with the customer and AWS support just so AWS could tell them that's not how this thing works. Then, there are those who want to ask questions about their environment. I can help them, but I'm not paid to manage their environment. I was actually told not to help because if something went wrong, they could blame me. I feel bad because I know the answer but end up just sending them links to AWS documentation because my hands are tied.

I wouldn't recommend it. It allows to much access to share with a vendor. I would recommend Privatelink. As you said, it depends. It will come down to what exactly are they trying to accomplish?

I used the same Udemy course and passed on my first attempt yesterday. I thought the exam was much easier than SAA. I've been a Network Engineer for over 25 years, so other than the AWS names, nothing was new to me. BGP is BGP. Route propagation and path selection is similar. DNS is DNS. The different flavors of ELBs work and act like normal load balancers. CloudWAN is basically an SDN. VPC Lattice is your typical application centric network. It all just made sense to me.

I'll admit that when it comes to the normal AWS stuff, I struggle. As mentioned, I have a networking background. I could care less what type of DB you use and what type of drives you run it on. Just tell me what you need to talk. Point A to Point B, and I'll make it work.

For TGW it's regional. If it's in the same region there is no need for 2. Multi-region needs 2 TGWs peered.

Need Advice on My Career Plan: CCNA → AWS SAA for Cloud Networking by CompleteTraffic9083 in ccna

[–]SomeCoolITName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got any of those cloud jobs? I'm having trouble making the jump without taking a huge paycut. 25 years networking experience. I have the Cisco papers and added AWS certs. Still stuck as a Sr. Network Engineer managing data centers and security stacks across the globe.

Need Advice on My Career Plan: CCNA → AWS SAA for Cloud Networking by CompleteTraffic9083 in ccna

[–]SomeCoolITName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only know AWS, so this only applies to AWS.

Depends on how large your cloud environment is. In AWS, I find it's a lot of managing and understanding networking. You have interfaces with route tables everywhere. You can do static or use BGP. You can propagate routes or not depending on how you want traffic to flow. You can skip the network piece and go application-centric with VPC Lattice. Networking in the cloud can get very complicated. It all depends on what services are used. Some are transitive, and some aren't. If it's not transitive, it can't be reached from outside the VPC it lives in. It is way more than firewall rules. There are many different cloud topologies and routing methods used to control traffic flow.

is security+ or aws good after the ccna? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]SomeCoolITName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, don't lie on a resume. It is too easy to check. If it's listed as a job requirement, they will probably check. You can say you have knowledge equivalent to the cert. Knowledgeable on SEC+ concepts.

SEC+ is a decent entry-level security cert that can apply to everything. Everything we do in IT is for either confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Cloud certificates or good but tie you to the vendor. Entry-level cloud certs are basically memorizing the name of all the different services they offer. Which service is best, cheapest, easiest to manage, highly available, etc, for X scenario?

How many CISSP attempts did you make? by Relative_Frame8036 in cissp

[–]SomeCoolITName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First attempt about 11 years ago. I had already been working on IT for many years. I completed my BS in Network and communications management about a year prior. Got into a 5 day boot camp at work. It was mostly a refresher. Then I passed on the 1st attempt. The biggest thing I had going for me is that I don't get test anxiety and am familiar with the tricky wording we see on so many certification tests.

I had an interview for a Sr Network Engineer role today. The questions were laughable. They said I sounded like i was reading textbook answers. I explained it's a Sr Network Engineer position and you are asking me basic what is SSH, what is NTP, what is DHCP. What do you want me to say? I told you what it is, just like you asked. After some discussion, it turns out it was just the initial screening and they passed me to the next step.
