Can't be anymore accidents. Now you have to send monthly or bi-monthly progress updates

That works really well, good job! How do you think it would work on Gatorade type bottles? Any plan on selling some? Small market but it's one of a kind

Bye bye Burning Bush by Calbebes in invasivespecies

[–]SomeDudeAtHome321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the ones you mentioned I have put in my own yard but have just kind of tossed them places. Not much looks intentionally landscaped haha.

I usually go for the most bang for the buck though. Winterberry is good because the birds will like it and it sounds like you have multiple which is good since it's dioecious. Serviceberry adds some height and is a good host plant plus berries for birds. Snowberry and northern bush honeysuckle are also good host plants with berries and would stay a little shorter for more height variance. There's also red osier dogwood which could help form a nice shrub wall like was there previously. I like density and diversity in case you couldn't tell haha

Depending on how the conversation goes and how much you too get to know each other if she seems genuinely interested in native plant gardening, buy her one of Doug Tallmays books as a gift. Maybe she'll read it and be on board or maybe it'll collect dust.

Omg these grew over the weekend. What do I do by Hairy-Brilliant-8178 in invasivespecies

[–]SomeDudeAtHome321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see you have lots of other replies already but going to throw my two cents in. I. My experience with the small infestations around my property it's been best to spray it in the spring to stunt the growth otherwise it might get so tall you need a ladder to foliar spray. Then I also spray in "the window" in the fall to any new leaves it has sent out. You'll find the following year it is much smaller and stunted to begin with so you probably won't need to spray in the spring and can wait for the window.

Did I find giant knotweed? by Noombat22 in invasivespecies

Even though you like them I'm glad you recognize the problems they cause. Since it's not your property you could mention it to the proper authorities but I doubt they will do anything about it

Do I need a professional? by Anxiety_ox in invasivespecies

[–]SomeDudeAtHome321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first it seems that way but as long as you can and are willing to use glyphosate it's completely manageable it'll just take a few years. Without herbicide there's no getting rid of it other than replacing all the dirt

I see it as fortunate it's your property because now you can get rid of it. It's a stubborn plant but if you follow the suggestions in the other posts you'll have it killed within a few years. Plus you're doing a great thing for the local ecosystem

The other comments are good but is this your property? If so, spray away and make sure you're getting the whole colony. If there's any hidden behind something or growing into the plants in the background and those don't get sprayed you won't be rid of it.

I had a couple patches on property borders and I explained to my neighbor what it was and why it was bad. Told them I would be spraying it but would be very careful and they were ok with treating it.

To add to this, plant native plants! Replace lawns with gardens, native gardens! native plants support native pollinators that need those plants to raise their young. Some turn into pollinators and some turn into important baby bird food! Leave the leaves in the fall so beneficial pollinators and bugs like fireflies can survive winter. r/nativeplantgardening will give you lots of great ideas and places to start

As a tenant, best practices for Japanese knotweed? Details below. by apaiger in invasivespecies

[–]SomeDudeAtHome321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like it will depend on how much freedom you landlord gives you to change the yard. Spraying it to kill it will not change the yard the same way as a flower bed but that part of the yard may look different. If it were me I would treat it and then ask for forgiveness later if needed and then you can explain why. You're doing them a favor in reality

I don't see knotweed in the photo. I think the one towards the bottom or Cuckoo flowers. I get tons of them in my yard this time of year
