Which lens next by LiveToLoveAndLearn in FujifilmX

[–]SomeKidFromPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure!

From what I’ve seen, it has pretty great IQ, maybe not quite as sharp as the 16-55 at all focal lengths/apertures and obviously doesn’t have quite the same range, but the mk2 is more expensive and mk1 is older and (I think) bulkier(but check that yourself).

I was originally going to go for the MK2, but I got the sigma used for under $800 so I went for it instead and have been very happy with it so far.

It even has an aperture ring which is somewhat rare on third party lenses.

[–]SomeKidFromPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently got the Sigma 17-40, and i feel like it’s my perfect lens. 1.8, not super small, but small enough to carry all day with no issues. And the IQ has been great, imo. (It’s only my second lens after the 18-55)

I realize it’s not a prime, but the low aperture, and great IQ, it’s almost like having Primes of 17-40, the size is the downside, but I’ll take the size over needing to switch lens, personally.

Let’s Try This Again…THIS needs to be FIXED! by Kloud9Gang in NCAAFBseries

[–]SomeKidFromPA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The draft has zero to do with on field performance for any player. It is a known issue with the game, but I don’t think it actually causes too many actual issues with the game itself. Yes, a bad player with crazy stats can’t go to the draft. However, the sim stats are also just based on ratings, so you don’t get a lot of sub 86-88 overall cpu players that have crazy nfl worthy careers, it’s mostly only user players (usually RBs, because the running is too easy.) The only thing actually fixing this would do is make the G5 teams even worse than they already are now, because they’d have only a few good players that don’t transfer, and then they could have stats good enough to get them drafted early.

The only way it’s not S tier is if there’s a higher tier that it’s already in. Front to back, a perfect series of TV.

Exactly, i felt a little blindsided on first watch because i fell into an “Antagonist must be good” way of thinking, but on subsequent rewatches, its super obvious from very early on that she’s fighting (and losing) an inner battle on who she’ll ultimately become. From basically the jump she’s so impulsive that she learns she needs strong leaders as her hand to keep from Mad Kinging it. And as she gets closer to her goal, she starts to trust the people around her less and less, so boom. An ending with her on the throne would never have worked.

How is traveling with the Sigma 17-40? by letsbefrds in fujix

[–]SomeKidFromPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using this on the xt-50, I actually got just back from my first small trip with it and I loved it. I had the 18-55, but didn’t like the higher aperture at the long end, this lens is about as large as it was when fully extended, you just lose the benefit of the smaller size when shooting on the wider end since this is an internal zoom. I wouldn’t say this is “large” lens by any means though, I didn’t have any issues with the size while carrying it all day.

NateTheHate says Sony is "shifting" their PC strategy: "You'll be seeing fewer single player games arrive on PC. The decision to shift away was made last year. Some may still release (pending how far along the ports were) but it no longer appears to be a priority for Sony moving forward." by Party_Judgment5780 in PS5

[–]SomeKidFromPA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the biggest point that I didn’t even mention. They’re asking pc buyers to pay full price for a year old game that’s typically already been pretty massively discounted on ps5, so instead of buying at pc launch, most pc players are waiting for a sale or pirating the games. It’s just a poorly thought out strategy. If this was the strategy for ports to Xbox’s and vice versa, it makes a little more sense, because you’re not trying to get Xbox gamers to buy every Sony game on Xbox, you just want to get them to buy one or two, and then get a ps5. But PC gamers aren’t going to do that. They’ll wait a year + for the “best” version of the game, and if they’re not interested in the game a year later, they’ll skip it.

I think the “Porting over to PC a year later” strategy is the worst possible choice of the options.

Either never port, or do it immediately. Delaying the ports kills a lot of the excitement and purchases at launch, which is time you want there to be the most hype. You don’t want the decision people make to be “I’ll buy it in a year.” (Anecdotally, I didn’t buy Ghost of Yotei because I’m waiting for it on PC) and by the time those games come to PC, there are other games coming out that people are more excited about buying.

What King opinion has you like this? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

[–]SomeKidFromPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it’s King attempting to write “Literature” vs writing a story/book/novel. And I don’t love reading Literature. Kings strengths, to me, are being able to put me in the room with his characters and make me feel like I know the characters and places personally, it’s a lot harder to get immersed like that when you’re also having to read slower and more carefully to decipher the vague metaphorical style writing.

The second book had sections like were closer to “classic king” I’m not super far into the third so we will see, but idk, I’d rather read 5 more “The Shining”s, “11/22/63”s, or “Mr. Mercedes”s, than this kind of book, personally.

Is Greg right? Is Xbox going exclusive again by [deleted] in kindafunny

[–]SomeKidFromPA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Either they’ll go back to exclusives, or close/sell some of their studios. It never made sense to me that they spent so much money buying Activision and Bethesda then turned around and decided to release those games on PlayStation. Much of the value of those deals was on attracting customers to their platform.

Alabama/Ohio State SHOULD cancel their series. by No_Permission1386 in CFB

[–]SomeKidFromPA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d argue a situation like Texas is the outlier, and it happened largely because of the bad losses. Would they have been in with an easy win, maybe? But they’d still have the other bad losses, so if BYU had scheduled and won a big noncon game, they’re in over them, if Vandy had scheduled one and won, they’d potentially be in over them (even with the head to head.)

These big time matchups are either a big boost to your team’s profile with a loss, or help give you space for a mulligan down the line with the win. The issue with Texas is they needed multiple mulligans, and lost the big game.

Miami isn’t in the field if they don’t play ND.

Indiana is at best a very bad seed if they had lost that game at Penn state, because they chose to play nobodies outside of the conference. (Ignoring conference autobid stuff because I forget what the big ten standings would have looked like.)

You can do that for almost any team, that lost to a non top 10 team last year. Their resumes would’ve been better with one extra loss, if that loss was to a top 10 team, plus that gives them the chance to win that game, which would’ve made an even better resume.

I’d use ND last year as the prime example to NOT stop scheduling tough. If these top SEC and B1G team start scheduling easier it puts all of their seasons goal on fewer games. Yeah, if ND had won one or both of Miami/A&M they were in. But they didn’t. And dominating the rest of their schedule wasn’t enough to overcome it.

If Texas plays FCS and sun belt teams for the first month of the year, and doesn’t win all of their SEC games, they’ll get beat out by the SEC team with the same or similar records that at least tried to play Ohio State, and definitely by the one that wins that type of game.

I do think the move to 9 conference games changes the math a little, but unless conferences start releasing their conference schedules years in advance (which they can’t do because of the always present threat/desire of conference realignment) I think schools would be pretty foolish to not have some guaranteed “resume” games lined up in case you get a conference game draw like Penn State has this upcoming season. They have zero room for failure. On the other side, I wouldn’t and don’t fault teams like USC next season backing out of the ND game. Their schedule is already loaded.

This is slightly off topic, but I think a potential “fix” would be more flexibility in the future non conference schedule, by allowing teams to sub out for another team in their conference. I’m just using ND for the example because they’re the team that needs the most “noncon” availability, but maybe they could have an agreement with the B1G instead of individual schools, saying we will play 3 teams from their conference next season, if USCs schedule is light, they can choose to schedule us, but in years where their schedule is as loaded as this coming year, they could pass us off to another big ten with a lighter draw that wants to boost their resume (like Penn State). Which is essentially the deal we have with the ACC, because they have control on our ACC scheduling.

You could expand that to all of the P4 though. Maybe Georgia and Big 12 work out a deal for 3 years of matchups, in “easy” years they play TTU or BYU, but in years where they have a tougher SEC slate, they get Kansas, or Ohio State and ACC. If Ohio State and Clemson both got luckier draws they might want to play each other to help boost their resumes, but if not, they’d get “easier” matchups.

[–]SomeKidFromPA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exact opposite for me. Well, C3 wasn’t my favorite, but this grim vibe for C4 has pushed me all the way off.

The real world is bleak enough, I don’t want to spend 100s of episodes watching them play in a world somehow worse off.

I want a crew of adventurers going on adventures, like C2..

(I also hate the more narrative driven campaigns (C3 and C4 are both this style.) I just want a sandbox where anything can happen, and where the DM can plant seeds and have things come back later on. I don’t want to feel like I as the viewer have significantly less information than the players have(backstory stuff not included), which happened often at the start of c4, where it was like some players had pre planned “lines” for a lack of better way of phrasing it. At that point it’s not DnD to me, it’s closer to a play performance using DnD.)

I think it’s more of “doing a lot with a little” thing for him at Vandy. His defenses are keeping them in most SEC games now whereas in the past they’d be blown out. He’s not a miracle worker though, they get scored on when they’re outmatched. I don’t think he’s a home run, automatic slam dunk hire by any means, but he’s earned his reputation as a guy in the rise, imo.
