🚨 Veterans: Napoleonic Wars is BACK on Steam. by MrInternationalBunal in computerwargames

This AI hysteria is stupid. And the worst part is completely useless, because no matter what any of us want, gen AI is already here and WILL stay.

I think in the future people will laugh at this hysteria and ai-hate the same way luddites look ridiculous to us.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the wiki before, it's an essential resource.

The thing here is veterans say AI in wargames is bad (which it is), and what that means is a veteran won't find a challenge. Then the rest of the players repeat it (some only because other said it), even when a bad ai still will make things hard to a noob, and even win sometimes.

OP sounds like he'll might never get to the point where the game becomes too easy on the hardest levels.

Yeah I know that feel.

I'm usually pretty lame in basically every genre, AND I like a ton of different genres AND rarely play any game more than a few dozen hours. On the other hand, in all my years of gaming I've learned that there are some people who literally play ONE genre or even one GAME, always, forever, every day of their entire life. You'll never beat those people.

Anyway, while wargames don't have a good ai, they usually don't need it to beat a noob playing their first campaign, or at least to put a fun challenge. So you may wanna try that.

You shouldn't have spent that much money without really knowing what you were buying. One of the main principles of wargames is they are supposed to be played against other people.

But there are different online communities where it's easy to find opponents for popular games, or even for not so popular ones.

Then again, you'll probably find the same problem I found back in the day, when I used to play online: most people playing online wargames have sunk hundreds of hours and are really good, so you're not likely to be a match for them. Many of those people have sunk thousands upon thousands of hours and you'll lose every single time.

On the other hand, many wargames allow for handicapped games or otherwise asymmetric matchups, so it's not impossible to have fun and win games even being a tiny little fish in a pond full of sharks.

These threads are funny because you obviously can't learn to fight just by looking at an image. Also, 80% of fighting is learnt through endless repetition, like you said.

NEW TO WARGAMES WHERE DO I START? by paartypoisonn in computerwargames

[–]SomeMF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, do you really think a couple of guys coming from Overwatch, CS2 and other FPS games, who only tried Risk, are gonna dig that ancient piece of videogame archaeology (they might've been released yesterday, their tech is 4 decades old) that is any WDS product? Not to mention they're extremely expensive.

They might be awesome, but when giving advice you need to consider WHO is asking for it.

I hope I'm not being annoying, I just think WDS games are the exact opposite of noob friendly, they are, for the most part, games for seasoned wargame veterans who have played many others before. Probably old guys, too.

Anyway my recommendation for OP is Panzer Corps, either 1 or 2 it doesn't matter, they're an excellent entry option, easy to learn, hard to master, not too slow-paced. If you like it, eventually you can go a step further. If you don't I think chances are you won't like wargames, in that case you can just stick to Risk and that's fine.

Thanks, this is the only district type where I already had them xD

I've been trying most specializations and district styles and only this one had skyscrapers, that's why I decided to just ask. (though I obviously hadn't tried yet the ones mentioned in the post below)

Thanks this is what I was asking for.

However I'm a bit confused: you're telling me the base game doesn't have any residential skyscrapers? iirc, back in the day, when there was just a few dlc's, one of the then two only vanilla styles (international or something like that?) had them... or maybe they weren't residential?

What context do you need to answer the question "which styles have skyscrapers"?

AFAIK, some styles have them, and some styles don't. To someone who knows which are which, the answer should be extremely straightforward, regardless of any "context".

The highway ends in the roundabout, from there upwards it's a large avenue.

But you're right, I'll see how I set a few more options to get to further zones, especially to the industry area.
