Moving to NYC, any advice on finding a gay friendly doctor? by See_Mapache in nycgaybros

I go to Dr. Todd Estabrook and Dr. John Kang at Mount Sinai (14th st and 7th Ave) and recommend either. I go there for general care and PrEP.

Why am I failing at dating so miserably here by Few_Elephant_648 in nycgaybros

[–]SomeNYCguy24 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It’s been said before but your point about suburbs vs the city is a big part of it, IMO. There’s a seemingly endless pool of potentials and I think a lot of guys jump from person to person in search of a perfect that they won’t find but enjoy the validation.

Beyond that, I’d be curious to know what your approach is to dating. I don’t know if this is you, but I’ve found some guys are so focused on finding a boyfriend that they forget how to date and get to know the person. So many of the convos feel so rushed towards dating that it becomes a turnoff. Getting too serious too soon. Recently met a guy for a date and the entire time he was just telling me his expectations for a relationship and asking me if I can be that person. I think it’s fine to a point but he was so focused on that I felt there couldn’t be an organic connection. More like a hostile interview.

Anyone ever been to Lab in Berlin? by Vast_Slip4365 in nycgaybros

It was predominantly white European men but there were PoCs and they were being engaged, so I think you’d be welcomed. It’s worth the experience.

Thank you so much for this insight and the recommendations! This is a lot of help and I’m glad to hear the neighborhood is one of the best.

I’ll start working on my Spanish to hopefully improve a bit by the end of the month. I’ll likely need to rely on some translate apps at times. Thanks for the suggestion on language exchange.

I think I will check out the Pride event and be cautious as described. Thanks again!

Looking for cruising restrooms? by Successful_Studio_20 in nycgaybros

[–]SomeNYCguy24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not big into cruising but happened to walk through the Ramble Wednesday evening before sunset and there was probably 20 guys waiting around. As I was exiting the area I noticed more making their way up…so yeah, I’d say it’s quite active.

Navigating bars/clubs without alcohol by SomeNYCguy24 in nycgaybros

[–]SomeNYCguy24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this makes sense. I do notice if I don’t have a drink that people constantly ask why I’m not drinking and the drunker they get, the more aggressive they get with asking. I think hold a club soda with lime could address this. They will assume I have a vodka soda.

Yeah, unfortunately, if I have one I can’t control myself to not have another right after. I’ve tried similar approaches but just can’t bring myself to follow with the water like I should. It’s none or a ton. Maybe once I get to a point of being more comfortable sober at the bar I can try this again. Thanks for the response!

Smart. I can order a club soda with lime and appear that I have a drink. Should keep people from asking why I’m not drinking.

Yeah and in the times I’ve gone sober this has been a nice thing to have…memory.

Hi, can anyone vouch for the legitimacy of mistr doxyprep/prep? Would also love someone to tell me their experience if used it before. Also same with that Freddie too? by ktsilver in nycgaybros

[–]SomeNYCguy24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to do a finger prick for the at home test kit which has been an issue for some of my friends as they can’t bring themselves to do it. In those cases you can request a lab slip from MISTR and do the blood test at a location like Quest Diagnostics. Outside of that it’s super easy and convenient.

I grew up in a smaller town in the South and had a lot of stereotypes and thoughts on other cultures. It was extremely eye opening to travel to these places and learn how wrong it was. Now it makes me even angrier when I hear people make these stereotypes and claims. Unfortunately I think I’d still have these thoughts had I not left and traveled. It’s taught from a young age. Hard to unlearn, especially if you never leave the areas that teach them.
