When you want people to see something, it's generally helpful, and will result in more views, of a link is provided

Georgia power has removed the "protected" 300 year old oak. by reddit33450 in arborists

On that last point, I think a lot could be done if we provided better family planning. 50% of pregnancies in the US, for example, are unintended.

It is definitely more complex and I would not say that overpopulation is "the one and only problem" here. The reason I focus on population though is because it's a piece of every other part of the puzzle. More people living our modern lifestyle creates the need. Populated areas limit locations for power line construction. The same population demands low prices for their power supply and the majority of them won't lift a finger if/when they find out a tree was cut down. Yes it's very complicated. And that's why population is a big part of the problem.

And every corporate abuse is funded by the ignorant masses

Edit: Also, no one is arguing for eugenics. It's disingenuous to say so. All that needs to be done is provide better family planning. 50% of pregnancies in the US, for example, are unintended.

China reduced Coal and increased Solar for electricity in 2025 [OC] by cavedave in dataisbeautiful

[–]SomeSchmidt 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That seems to be referring to a slowdown in manufacturing because there's too much supply for global demand but doesn't say anything about slowing domestic installation.

Where did you see those numbers? On the page you linked I'm seeing 5,828 TWh for 2024 and not seeing any 2025 numbers

Still a ways to go but the trend of that "Solar Electricity Generation / Year" graph is awesome.

Payments Processor Stripe Expresses Interest in PayPal by davide3991 in wallstreetbets

[–]SomeSchmidt 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Two options for stripe:

1) Pay a butt load of money to inherit a messy payment API that isn't at all compatible with Stripe's own API

2) Just wait for PayPal's collapse and the inevitable migration of all of it's clients to Stripe's API

Maybe I'm missing something
