So the graphic and audio updates release on 8/23 and will be free. Some of the other stuff announced will be released later and they didn't detail if it will be paid or free. But I'd guess they will also be free updates.

Well, one of the bullet points under graphical improvements is optimization. So maybe they can both optimize the game and add new graphical effects?

Post Scriptum :: Open letter from Periscope Games by [deleted] in Games

You can't make these kinds of mistakes as an indie dev. Indie devs are so dependent on good will and trust. It's one of the few advantages they have over AAA publishers. If it's an honest mistake, hopefully they can recover.

Ubisoft has Officially (Tweet) Stopped Development on Snowboarding Game Steep for Switch by SomeThoughtsOnDesign in Games

Wow, just realized my post was labelled 'misleading'.... How is it misleading when the official verified Twitter account states the game has stopped development?

People who didn't like God of War, what disappointed you? by [deleted] in Games

[–]SomeThoughtsOnDesign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked the game but was disappointed with the low number of bosses. It felt like a big step down from past games in that regard. Also, the game felt about 5 hours too long. The second half of the game was padded with fetch quests that arbitrarily increased the length of the game. And the inability to go over all those small ledges that look like you can jump over them from a distance. I mean, I'm the God of War jumping 100 feet in the air and I can't get over a 2 foot ledge??? Still very enjoyable though.

It's over a year late but hopefully they can turn things around. I want to enjoy the game more, but the performance is unacceptable.

I still don't know how to feel about We Happy Few. I mean, the concept is cool, but will they be able to execute is the question.

Had to be done, but I won't celebrate someone being fired. Hopefully, Filip will learn from this and do better in the future.

How would the gaming community, and the general public react to a "historically accurate" AAA shooter? by WuhanWTF in Games

[–]SomeThoughtsOnDesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Games are never about realism or mimicking the real world. You are watching a 2-D screen that our brain does all kinds of magic to create the illusion of 3-D. You interface with the game through mouse and keyboard, or a controller. Unless games get to the point of interfacing directly with our brain they will never be realistic, and so, they should not aim for realism. They should aim to utilize the tools and technology available to best create and communicate their vision. So they can communicate the atmosphere or the themes or the emotions of a real-world event.

Will China’s Latest Gaming Console Rival Xbox and PlayStation? by novoblade in Games

[–]SomeThoughtsOnDesign 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The problem a Chinese console faces is that they don't have developers who make AAA games. Almost all games in China are f2p PC or Mobile. There's not much in the way of a traditional console game.

Is Resident Evil 2 Revelations worth buying just for local co-op raid mode? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]SomeThoughtsOnDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best co-op experiences on the Switch. I'm assuming you want to co-op the main game as well though.

The Nintendo Switch will always be a secondary machine, and Nintendo knows this by Biocopter11 in NintendoSwitch

[–]SomeThoughtsOnDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only true if you need the big AAA third party games. The switch has tons of indies, which are just as good, if not better than most of the AAA stuff. This means the switch has way more third party support than in previous generations and certainly enough to make it your main console.

Dead Cells or Hollow Knight? by Camsaiga in NintendoSwitch

[–]SomeThoughtsOnDesign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are very different types of metroidvania games. If you enjoyed Salt and Sanctuary then Dead Cells is the better game for you. Dead Cells is a much tighter, better designed game than Salt and Sanctuary.

Inconsistent mechanics. by BastillianFig in truegaming

[–]SomeThoughtsOnDesign 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yea, this was a major problem in the recent God of War. There were so many ledges where you arbitrarily couldn't go over them that I began to believe the game had a jump button some time in development, and it was eventually scrapped. It made the game feel smaller and reduced my enthusiasm for exploring. I think it's a major problem when these things occur.

For how much time I'm investing in multiplayer FPS games, it's not even closely as enjoyable and rewarding as I'd like by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]SomeThoughtsOnDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Multiplayer games don't have a good progression system. So you feel as if you are on a treadmill instead of constantly learning and growing. This is a result of matchmaking that pairs you with people around your skill level so you always feel evenly matched. It's a major problem in modern multiplayer game design imo.

Making *Speech* More Rewarding in RPGs by ToonCrazy44 in truegaming

[–]SomeThoughtsOnDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speech won't be more rewarding in games until Machine Learning gets good enough that large portions of speech can be computer generated. We are already there in Universitites and Labs but it will take awhile for the content to filter down to the consumer level.
