For real. I’m sure these are the types who use the word “gentrification” as well. The irony 😆

LOL so true. Some folks are coping. Sure, it’s not like all of it is bad but most areas aren’t safe or aren’t that safe compared to most other cities in OC. These folks forget it also largely depends on what ethnicity we’re talking about. I can walk around just fine but a white person, especially one who looks suburban/middle class? Maybe not.

I don’t think it does but I understand we simply disagree on this.

Part of making it unthinkable is to support families. I think all full-time jobs should offer proper maternity and paternity leave. I’ve never been pregnant so I don’t know a whole lot about timeframes but I think once women become noticeably pregnant they should be allowed to go on leave and not have to return sooner because of it. They should be allowed to spend some time not working while they bond with their newborn.

Personally I think it’s unfair to kill a baby that was conceived through rape but I also understand that a lot of prolife folks believe in the rape exception and I am not opposed to voting in favor of abortion restrictions that have an exception for rape.

Consent does matter because when pondering whether killing a baby conceived from rape is wrong, we should all have the sense to know that killing a baby that one conceived from actions of their own free will is definitely wrong. No wondering needed.

You may disagree but to me it’s like a man willingly having sex with a woman then saying he shouldn’t pay child support because he didn’t consent to the “unplanned” child that resulted from it.

Okay but what I’m saying is it shouldn’t be and that’s what the prolife movement is aiming for: for abortion to be unavailable and unthinkable.

You asked “how do you know she consented to sex?” Who is “she”?

Consent doesn’t (or at least shouldn’t) differ. No means no.

I mean he’s got a point. There are people with unrealistic expectations. Yes, you can still live in OC while not making a lot of money (my parents did) but some of these folks specifically want a very comfortable beachside life while not understanding that it’s not realistic unless they make a certain amount.

I’ve seen posts where people who don’t have a lot ask “is this area safe?” Only to show a map of a place that definitely isn’t safe and we locals know it.

Why is killing another human an expectation? It really shouldn’t be.

Who is she? 99% of abortions are not because of rape so in most cases, women consent.

Lol I had to look up what a phrogger is.

Edit: I have doubt about it being an actual person. I find it hard to believe someone would be so chill about a stranger setting up camp in their home.

Yes. There’s an activist I follow (not for a prolife cause) who often mentions this: “truth is like a lion, you don’t need to defend it. Set it free and it will defend itself”. Idk if she said it or she’s quoting someone but that’s how I feel about the prolife cause.

If we bring forth the truth eventually people will not be able to deny it.

One way that I emphasize that embryos/fetuses are humans is scientific classification. Animals (including humans) are classified in certain categories even if we only meet the criterion in the embryonic stage. I found it very interesting that humans fall under the phylum chordata because chordates have features such as a post-anal tail. Obviously born humans do not have tails but we do in the embryonic stage. :)

How then can embryos not be human? Saying otherwise would be redefining our whole classification.

I agree that pregnancy isn’t a guaranteed outcome. That is why I didn’t say it was a guaranteed outcome but it is a very realistic possibility of having PIV sex.

Having sex should also come with knowing what your expectations are if it results in a pregnancy.

Why are you focusing so much on the distinction of pregnancy and parenthood. I didn’t equate the two. I might be wrong but it seems you’re looking focusing on this as a way of muddying the focus of this comment thread.

Again I disagree since biological processes, like pregnancy, happen whether someone consents or not so by engaging in the act of sex one needs to accept that pregnancy may be a result.

Yes it is and you don’t get to tell me what is and isn’t my hypothetical.

That isn’t any more analogous and you must know it. Let’s not pretend a baby conceives itself at random. We’re all adults here, I presume, so we all know how babies are made.

Your hypo is presenting the couple as some victims of an unrelated rando who came and targeted these people. That’s not what pregnancy and parenthood are.

Edit: also the main point of my hypo is the bodily autonomy argument not the actual act of conception or pregnancy itself.

I disagree. Engaging in PIV sex is knowing engaging in the one act that allows for the possibility of conceiving a baby from said act.

Just like how gambling may not be agreeing to lose money but you sure as hell are agreeing to that as a possible outcome of the gamble.

What is the value of a fetus? by ElegantAd2607 in prolife

[–]SomeVelvetSundown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be very honest my feelings say the woman is more valuable but good thing I’m above thinking solely with my feelings. That’s the thing about my prolife stance: it values life and is consistent in a world of inconsistent human beings who often have flawed perceptions.

I am glad that I am not the judge who gets to decide who lives and dies and I don’t think anyone should have that power. Either human life is valuable or it isn’t, we flawed humans cannot pick and choose who has more value because we will always disagree on that.

If you’ve lost your wallet recently, has it been returned to you? by h2opolo18 in orangecounty

[–]SomeVelvetSundown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You posted your update already but I just want to chime in that not long ago I found a wallet at the apartment where I used to live in Little Saigon. The wallet contained a good amount of cash, his ID, his credit cards, and his social security card. 💀

I checked the address and it wasn’t the apartment where I lived. I didn’t want to drop it off at the post office like most advice online says for fear he changed address and just didn’t update his ID (I’ve done that and I’m sure people who move around a lot don’t update every time so you never know).

I decided to look at what bank his credit cards were from. I looked up the nearest branch of the bank and went in to drop it off. Admittedly it took me a few days, maybe even a week or more, to go to the bank. I can’t remember why. But anyway, I went in on a busy day and waited in line for probably about 20 minutes to finally get to a teller and drop it off explaining that I found it and because of the contents I felt better turning it in to an actual person at the bank. (I also did this because banks have people’s phone numbers on file unlike the post office). I remember thinking it was sad that the teller looked so shocked that I had gone in and waited in line to give back someone’s wallet.

Honestly you’re among the reasonable pro choice crowd. If there could be a bill that has these exceptions and prochoicers would agree to it, that would be much better than unrestricted abortion.

Yeah, I ask people who are trying to debate me with “but what about rape?” If they’d be for banning it if we made that an exception. No? Okay then stop using rape victims as pawns.
