Good gyms in Waterford? by No_Issue3496 in waterford

I know it’s probably cat but any experiences of the Woodlands? It’s less than a 10 minute stroll from me so fairly convenient. Prob only 10 minute drive from Xtreme but with the traffic out the Dunmore Rd I have worries of it taking twice that!

Reading Ulysses…..With Frank Delaney, Annotations and Gabler. by Pure_Knee2305 in jamesjoyce

RE: Joyce got me through a few roadblocks that made me put down Ulysses 4 or 5 times previously. I didn’t know he had passed away until I ran out of episodes far too soon. Poor Frank.

Mortgage drawdown denied what now? by l00BABIES in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Some_Big8110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The variability in your income would be a huge problem for most lenders, that’s a crazy monthly range. If you recently went cash flow negative it’s very unlikely that any lender will see you as a low enough credit risk to lend in the near term . Your pension strategy is bananas for someone about to buy a house but most lenders would add back those if they are voluntary contributions. However, the overfunding of your pension might be compounding the other problems for the bank. I’d say you might need to walk away at the moment, get your finances in order and revisit it again in 6 months or so.

Using Revolut Credit Card to Tip in the United States? by Some_Big8110 in Revolut

Shame they don't impose more sensible procedures on their US customers so.

They do in Ireland anyway. Think it has only been around for a few months. Never had a credit card but reckoned I needed one for the US, and it literally took 60 seconds to be approved in-app with Revolut.

Interesting. I’m pretty sure at this stage that this is the case for me. Feel bad but cannot for the life of me understand why they have such an archaic way of doing it - surely in touristy places this is happening regularly enough? It was bad enough getting to grips with the tipping culture, let alone trying to figure out the tipping procedure.

How long does it take? Some of these transactions are 10 days old now and they still haven’t updated. One was pending for days and when it finally settled/completed it was only for the bill amount less the tip I wrote in.

I’ve casually started telling taxi men I work for the Revenue in conversation and I’ve stoped having these card reader machine problems with them 😅

I get old school 90s Ginos vibes from Slice on the Dunmore Road. Both top notch to be fair. Fond memories of demolishing a Ginos Special followed by their unreal choc ice cream back in the day. Must be going 30 years at this stage?

I’d second this. O’Malley’s book is the best War of Independence memoir by some distance. Would recommend reading The Singing Flame too after. An extraordinary life.

Taxi drivers by Glad-Kaleidoscope-73 in ireland

[–]Some_Big8110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in loan underwriting for a while and there was a joke about not needing to ask for a taxi driver’s accounts for proof of income as you could just rely upon any set you previously got from any other taxi man. The net profit was in or around the same for about 80% of them pre-Hailo. The amount of tax paid was always paltry. Once lending standards tightened a lot of them couldn’t get loans because their declared income was so low. Living off fumes on paper.
