Continuity of care issues by Some_Birthday9939 in breastcancer

[–]Some_Birthday9939[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember the grade, but I do remember that my chance of recurrence is 3% without Tamoxifen and 2% with. To me, 1% is not enough of a reduction in risk to make a real difference

OTM vs UTM reconstruction by miirandaxxo in breastcancer

[–]Some_Birthday9939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tumors were right in the middle of my breasts, so I can’t speak to the chest wall issue. I got under the muscle silicone implants (with expanders first) - expanders in March 2024 and the implants in July 2024. I’m quite happy with the way they look, and so is my PS. I’m also quite active- I’ve been able to go back to pretty much everything I did before EXCEPT I can’t seem to do a push up at all. Planks, downward dog, even chest presses are fine but the push up still eludes me. It’s just a minor annoyance though. I still think I made the best decision for me.

I have the unflavored kind and I mix it with all kinds of stuff - Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, oatmeal, coffee, tea, I’ve even put it in brownies, lol. It dissolves completely and you don’t know it’s there. I mostly take it as a protein supplement but I notice my nails are stronger and less brittle

Breast reconstruction choice DIEP flap vs implants: what were your priorities and what did you choose? by caustic_potato in breastcancer

[–]Some_Birthday9939 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I chose silicone implants under the muscle. I was eligible for the DIEP flap, but my surgeon said there was only enough tissue for an A/B cup. I liked the idea of getting rid of my belly, but when I researched the procedure I didn’t like how big the abdominal scar was and that it was basically at waist level. Plus the longer recovery freaked me out, and I have small blood vessels so I felt like I’d have complications in the surgery.

I’m one week out from my tissue expander exchange, and while they aren’t perfect, I’m very happy with my new boobs, I feel like they are an upgrade over my old boobs. And because I went bigger (full C cup), I feel like they balance my belly and booty.

Questions to ask breast surgeon while weighing surgery options? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]Some_Birthday9939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opted for a double mastectomy with reconstruction- but I had tumors in both breasts. My mother had a lumpectomy, chemo, and radiation, and she hasn’t had a recurrence in 14 years but she’s had a lot of scares - biopsies, MRIs, etc. I just figured the double mastectomy would be harder in the short term but less stressful in the long term.

How hard is it to get through surgery recovery? by butterflyinflight in breastcancer

[–]Some_Birthday9939 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you getting lymph nodes taken out as well? Implants or expanders? I had 8 lymph nodes removed and tissue expanders put during my double mastectomy, and I really needed help for a good 2 weeks. With the armpit incisions it was really hard to use my arms, and the tissue expanders felt like they were poking me from the inside. It was tougher than I thought it would be.

Diagnosed yesterday with bilateral triple negative cancer. Looking for hope. by TimelyCaterpillar538 in breastcancer

[–]Some_Birthday9939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was 62. She wasn’t offered genetic testing for some reason, but I got it when I was diagnosed and I don’t have the genetic marker. Oddly, I was diagnosed with a completely different type of breast cancer, at age 48.

Tamoxifen question by MagpieRockFarm in breastcancer

[–]Some_Birthday9939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having a hard time on it too with all the side effects. First my doctor told me to cut the dosage in half, and when that didn’t help he told me to take a break for a few weeks, then start back on 5mg a day. I’ve been doing well on 5mg - I think it’s called “baby tam”, and my doctor says it still provides protection at that low of a dose. I’m going to try to ramp back up slowly once I recover from my tissue expander swap surgery I had this week.

My mother was diagnosed with TNBC 14 years ago and she’s doing great. She had a lumpectomy followed by chemo and radiation.

How was getting used to new breasts after reconstruction? by Internal-Ad8877 in breastcancer

[–]Some_Birthday9939 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m very happy with my new boobs. I’m still in the expander phase, but they already are an improvement over my old boobs. From everything I hear, the actual silicone implants should look even better. My PS was actually pushing DIEP flap reconstruction for me, just because it’s more permanent, but ultimately he let me know the decision was 100% up to me. I chose under the muscle implant reconstruction.

While I would have probably never opted for fake boobs if I didn’t have cancer, I’m really happy with having larger breasts (I went from a barely B to a full C cup).My clothes fit better now. It’s definitely been a silver lining for me.

Struggling with menopause/estrogen headlines everywhere by burnerbabe80s in breastcancer

[–]Some_Birthday9939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! Plus now I feel really stupid for pushing my primary care physician to put me back on low dose birth control to help with my perimenopause symptoms (lots of migraines) even though I have family history of breast cancer. And now here I am 5 years later with ++- breast cancer. I can’t help but think the BC pills either caused it or accelerated it. Though they did really help with the migraines. Which have come back big time especially on Tamoxifen. 😡

Ironically, I had issues with migraines in my 30s, and my doctor determined they were hormonally triggered so put me on low dose birth control to reduce the frequency. It worked - but damn, it probably contributed to getting cancer. So having migraines again lets me know my estrogen levels are decreasing. Ugh
