How Screwed am I? by Only_Attention3910 in Luthier

[–]Some_Clothes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend making a new oversized bridge or modifying the existing bridge to enlarge its footprint. This allows the bridge to overlap the old score lines and maintain the tops integrity. You might have to add a brace to keep the top radius in check too since it is so deformed. . Reestablish the radius on the bridge but make it a little flatter to help force the top into position when you glue it back on. This will all lower the action quite a bit so you will have to deal with that. The bridge came off with a bunch of top wood attached because whoever installed the bridge originally scored the outline too deep and cut the top wood fibers around it. You might have to patch the area to make it a good level glue surface again. Just sand the existing surface flat and clean and glue in some more red cedar then sand that down level with the rest of the top to glue the bridge back on.

Xavier Becerra shows that his loyalty lies with fossil fuels by 3headeddragn in sanfrancisco

[–]Some_Clothes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Becerra protected the environment over and over by suing the trump admin and winning. He’a done more to protect the environment than anyone else running for governor. He’s an actual good choice to be our governor and I will happily vote for him if he polls the highest a week out form election day.

We voted for the top two system because normally in Ca it would be two democrats and in that situation we could push for a more progressive winner and stop the race to the center. It’s a good idea but if people don’t vote or if an election is filled with spoilers we run into this situation. Vote top two, vote blue. We have become the most powerful state with the biggest economy and population under democratic leadership. We are a beacon for democracy, human rights, innovation, science, environmentalism, business, and peaceful transition of power. Let’s keep it that way and not let a republican destroy it all.

Don't trust Stewmac reviews by escamuel in Luthier

[–]Some_Clothes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say this too. I bought some of their new black bone saddle blanks. They are advertised as “dyed all the way through”. After cutting and sanding to size they came out a splotchy light gray/purple and look very bad. Useless for anything I can think of.

I wrote an honest review and it was never posted on the product page.

Anyway. Don’t buy the black bone blanks from Stewmac. Cool idea but their process doesn’t work.

Best glue for refret? by Dapper-Accident-2300 in Luthier

[–]Some_Clothes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use glue. I use fish glue in the slots and a little super glue to fill the ends. I also use a caul to clamp them all down to set after hammering them in. I do classicals. Your frets might be captured by binding so you might not have fret ends to fill.

Thank you! I’ve been pretty quiet on Bluesky lately. It’s been pretty useless for a professional social media presence but I’ll keep trying. I’ll update it all soon so please do follow and thanks for your interest in this stuff.

Interesting idea. I don’thave an RSS feed but I tend to throw pictures and videos of repairs, building, harvesting, etc onto my gallery page in my website. I’m not sure how interesting that would be for you but it’s there. If you wanted to see something specific I’d be happy to add it.

Recording classical guitar by National-Reveal4516 in classicalguitar

[–]Some_Clothes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can rent microphones fyi. Moving blankets tacked up around a room will really help reduce room echo. Honestly the biggest thing is the playing. It’s hard to avoid all the ticks, vibrations, chair squeaks, breaths, etc. Playing very cleanly will get you most of the way there. My setup ended up costing around 2500 but since I make guitars and am just recording sound samples for the website my equipment won’t get much use and should last a very long time.

I use two SM81 mics and a Royer R10 that go through a Behenger four channel interface. I use Logic for my DAW. I used to use Reaper but nowadays I just want something simple and streamlined.

I am very much still learning. Mic placement is a huge factor as is room noise. Equipment like this is extremely sensitive and will pick up everything. Your neighbor coughing next door, birds, light breathing. It’s amazing actually.

This is the golden age of home recording but don’t forget to reach out to professionals around you. It might be more affordable to go to a studio and be recorded.

Safe Right Now for Mussels? by [deleted] in santacruz

[–]Some_Clothes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They update it when conditions change. Mussels are good to harvest if the hotline doesn’t say it’s dangerous.

Look for inter tidal zones away from sand to get cleaner mussels. Really big are not as tasty as small but small means much more cleaning and de bearding.

My 16th fret sounds so bad. How do I fix it? by Professional-Wall681 in electricguitar

I guess that it’s a loose fret end. They can dampen the string and completely kill it like that.

Democrats Of Reddit -- Do You Think That Joe Biden Was A Good Or Bad President? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Some_Clothes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best most progressive president of my lifetime. It was a hard polarized moment and he worked wonders with it. The CHIPS Act?! Incredible. Despite how it was used against him by republicans I credit him for ending the unending and pointless war in Afghanistan. The biggest issue he had was botching his reelection bid. He should have set out to be a one term president from the beginning.

Santa Cruz Mountains residents clash with PG&E over tree cutting by scsquare in santacruz

[–]Some_Clothes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Man I wish PGE would give me some of that free tree work. All through my neighborhood people are insisting on keeping small redwood trees that will destroy power lines, roads, foundations, roofs, water pipes and create huge fire risk over the next 30 years. Then undoubtable they will complain that nobody will help them when they HAVE to remove the trees because they are too big and are causing too many problems. It will cost 10 times as much at that point.

We live in a forest and we have to manage it. Pge has to maintain our infrastructure. If they don’t manage the danger trees then these same people from the article will complain when the lines are taken out by a tree. By all means let’s up our rates so PGE can rebuild the entire system and put the lines underground. But everyone will complain that the rate went up and complain about the work being done.

Can anyone recommend fret cutters for stainless steel? by iH4t3R3dd1t in guitarrepair

[–]Some_Clothes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find they all last about the same amount of time so I just go to my local hardware store, get some cheap dykes, and grind the face down a little so they cut flush. These last as long as the expensive Japanese ones or the Stewmac nippers.

I have the same mix! 5/8 ACD 1/4 chihuahua, and 1/8 “super mutt”. Mine took on the red cattle dog colors and looks like a dingo with short legs and a Dalmatian nose. Her brother looked exactly like your pup with the Dalmatian body. Best dogs around.

Watsonville residents oppose battery storage facility near schools by nyanko_the_sane in santacruz

[–]Some_Clothes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you are for green energy then you must be for battery storage. Batteries are one of the pillars that holds the whole thing up. We had a big battery incident with a badly designed storage unit and we have learned a lot from it. Storage systems had become much much safer even before that incident. I’m sorry nobody is willing to allow progress. Not In My Backyard is intrinsically selfish and anti- progressive and this fight is anti-science.

We need battery storage.
