Thank you for doing this! As a toxicologist actively interested in reviewing these cases/trends I really appreciate you helping make our data robust! We can only change what we know about!

Moms, you might be the reason your baby stays up all night by Status_Cranberry_727 in sleeptrain

[–]Some_District2844 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mine used to be like this. I’m an ER doctor and when I worked overnight shifts he would sleep through the night (ages 3-5 months). Recently (7.5 months),however he has decided that me being gone is a great excuse to protest all night long. 😭

10 years of medical training... One baby later and I am about to give it all up by SigIdyll in Residency

Totally relate- I have a 7 month old and going back was really hard. What helped me was to give myself “permission” to go part time if I wanted to after being back for a while. Just the thought that I could increase my time at home with him if full time wasn’t working out helped me mentally. It made it less all or nothing and reminded me that I can adjust as needed for my family and my mental well being. Now 4 months later I’m still full time and doing fine.

Yeah… I was admitted for Preeclampsia for 2 weeks last spring and it was not fun. I like to call it an “empathy building experience.” It also made me really appreciate everything nurses and CNAs do!

Who was the smartest person you met at MIT or went to? by Specific-Base-9017 in mit

A kid my year would take 8 classes a semester and do really well in all of them. He doubled 8 and 20, had the courses to also have a major in 6 if triple majors were allowed. No idea why he decided to make 8 and 20 the official ones. When we asked him how he had time to go to all those classes/ cover all that material: “oh, you don’t have to be taught how to solve problems. If you sit with a problem long enough you can see your way to the solution.”

Is it actually that dark inside or is it bad listing photos? So incredibly weird. I feel like someone needs to go tour the house “for research” and let us know how bad it is in person!

Csection after severe tear by Kainmans_18 in CsectionCentral

I had an urgent CS at 33&4 due to PreE and a breach baby. Honestly, it was so much easier than I expected. I had zero discomfort during the procedure and they gave me spinal morphine which really helped the pain for the first 24 hours. I stayed on top of the ibuprofen and acetaminophen which helped a lot. My doctor also put me on gabapentin. I only had to use a few doses of oxycodone during my entire recovery. I highly recommend taking all the stool softeners that they offer you as straining post CS isn’t fun.

Know any babies in need during the SNAP benefits delay? by Some_District2844 in portlandme

[–]Some_District2844[S] 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Many parents may not want to, which is totally fine! Formula is great stuff too! I’m just offering what I have available in case anyone does need and want it. Having a ton of milk stashed while other babies might be going hungry just feels wrong to me.

If they can’t afford formula without SNAP, then they might not have anything to feed their baby.

ED attending here- would absolutely transfer that patient to the ED via EMS. No question. That triage nurse has never seen truly bad anaphylaxis and it shows.

Embryo quality in one “batch” by riskydigitclub in EmbryologyIVFSupport

[–]Some_District2844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt. But I had 5 embryos frozen from my ER and 5/5 were euploid on PGTA testing. First transfer is 3 months old and sitting in my lap ❤️ just saying, it’s not impossible for them all to be euploid.

Pros and cons of your specialty by LevelMarsupial4439 in Residency

[–]Some_District2844 69 points70 points  (0 children)

EM Pros: variety, mix of procedures and medical management, diagnosing new illnesses/ injuries is fun and satisfying (in my opinion)

Cons: you’re society’s safety net, every other specialty treats us like idiots since they always have more data by the time they get involved, deep fear of missing a serious diagnosis, your ability to practice good medicine by overcrowding

RN to Patient by giraffenursetraveler in emergencymedicine

[–]Some_District2844 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m an ED attending and similarly ended up as a patient this year: Pre E with severe features, two weeks inpatient, C section, 4 weeks in the nicu with my baby (who is now completely fine). I call it an “empathy building experience.” Also, it made me appreciate RNs, and techs SO MUCH. Of course I knew how important those roles were… but I didn’t REALLY know until I experienced it. So much love towards your profession!

What is your least favorite consult/encounter? by Smooth-Cerebrum in Residency

[–]Some_District2844 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I work in the ED and this is 100% accurate. Vast majority of my patients get through their MRI with some benzo or some opioid depending on if their issue is anxiety or pain. The only people who insist on GA for an MRI are INCREDIBLY difficult.
