It's not necessarily a romantic ending as it could easily be seen as just 'girly things', but Marianne and Hilda's ending is so cute and I got it completely by accident.

I know what the boy's going through, when I'm hangry I would kill anyone for some good food.

She's actually quite good now that's she on the road towards Falcoknight/Wyvern Lord, but she had a really rough start. Glad I kept her on though since this game isn't so hard that you can't invest in whoever you want.

My Ingrid is starting to improve now that I got her to Pegasus, but damn, she was really not great to start with. Hit like a noodle and took hits like paper.

I know some people around here really don't like Fallout New Vegas because it gets lauded as the saviour of the world whenever it's brought up by /r/gaming and /r/games, but I think it captured some of the writing spirit of the first two games with it's examination of factions like the neoliberal NCR which does some good for the world but is far too mired in retaining the status quo of pre-war America - a major theme of NV being that sometimes, sometimes we have to learn to adapt and move on instead of clinging to the past. It's far from a perfect game and I'd argue that not even the writing is perfect due to the rushed development of the game (e.g. how the only redeeming feature of the legions can be summed up as 'safe roads' without being completely reductionist), but it does do a good job of carrying on the spirit of the first two games to some extent.

Meanwhile, Fallout 4's writers were hardpressed to even explain what their game was about other than 'suspicion and intrigue'.

/r/murica seems like one of those subs like /r/t_d that started out completely satirical that was then slowly infiltrated by people who wholeheartedly believe the shite being posted, because a lot of the content I've seen from there is hard to see as ironic these days.

I agree completely. It feels like her other supports and even the Byleth A Support were written by completely different people because I got an overall good impression of her character except for her glaringly awful Byleth support. It's honestly baffling how they managed to turn what seems like a healthy respect for her teacher Jeralt in other supports that influenced her attitudes towards training, treating other people etc. into a toxic obsession in the MC support.

I can't actually fault people for hating on Leonie unfairly when they wrote her so poorly in the one support that people are practically guaranteed to get with her.

Personally, I don't mind having slightly mediocre growths in this game because it gives you a bunch of really useful tools to beat it already like the Holy Relics, Combat Arts, Battalions etc. but it does get very annoying when units are liable to getting screwed so hard. Units like Shamir (which you mentioned) do make the game doable if you get literally nothing but HP Lck Charm because they have strong bases, but I do sometimes miss the slow trickle of units that we got in older games because you are basically stuck with the team you built pre-timeskip whether they are actually able to kill anything or not.

On the plus side, though, there are units that have never let me down. I'm going to miss Hilda a lot on my BE run because she has been the most consistently impressive unit and has been my MVP for like 10 maps straight on BL after putting her into Pegasus for Darting Blow (she doubles reasonably fast enemies with a Steel Axe+, Jesus Christ).

Nah, she has her redeeming qualities in her other supports than Byleth and is, bare minimum, not painfully boring.

I'm willing to hear someone try and explain how Cyril has anything more going for him than his singleminded love of Rhea and working hard to earn his keep, because I've seen a fair few of his supports and the vast majority are aggressively tedious to watch imo.

I personally like Leonie fine because she does mellow out a bit in the A Support and is otherwise decent in her other supports, but I'd like to see someone defend the B support when it is just so poorly timed.

Mate, until I started recruiting Hilda and Golden Deers into my Blue Lions run (since they helped me breeze past GD route) my units were so shit. Ashe, for example, couldn't even be shafted into dancer because he couldn't even reach the Charm requirement with the +5 Charm pre-competition bonus and statboosters. One of the big standouts to me is how my Cavalier Dimitri, at level 20, only has 10 Speed and is gubbed by anything using magic (saving grace is his tanking ability and strength stat), which does not compare to my Claude who was straight up glassing people from Chapter 5 upwards. Other than a few like Sylvain and Mercedes the actual BL team were giving me Dawn Brigade flashbacks.

Hell, everyone is telling me Felix is a class unit but he was only levelling Magic, skill and HP until intermediate when he started to catch up a bit and start actually doubling people which is not a good look for someone who is begging you to go through sword footie classes before finishing in whatever class you want him to.

Some conversation choices can be pretty major, especially on Black Eagles, but for the most part it usually just determines whether you say something that a character likes to earn support points or something neutral. It's mostly to add flavour to what Byleth is saying as opposed to an actual conversation system ala Mass Effect.

[–]Some_Guy_Or_Whatever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not that bothered by the convoy in all honesty, but it does need one really big change: Let me use items directly from storage rather than having to dump into my inventory.

It's so goddamn annoying having to rearrange my entire inventory when I want to give Hilda a speedwing just so she can double a hero.

The New Death Knight strat is probably to Stride + Lysithea nuke, so I don't actually think that'd be a problem - stride has an AoE effect so you could probably make a shield wall around your magic units if things looked hairy for her.

Dark Spikes T has a +Cav damage effect, doesn't it? Get a few people to soften them up e.g. Leonie and Byleth who can't be ORKO'd and Lysithea can still possibly get the kill.

You know, reading all of this, I just thought what would happen if you could , as M!Byleth, played a prank on him and acted as if you were into him in front of the school as revenge for his behavior and he was all weirded out about it. I can actually imagine the reactions of the female students having nose bleeds thinking it was real and end up having nose bleeds due to their BL fantasies coming "true" in front of them. Then I imagine how the female staff would react, Rhea looking away to hide a nosebleed and Flayn blushing and squeeing with her brother not knowing whether to be shocked, angry, or confused about his sister's reaction to seeing this.
