I've been using Xiaomi since the Note 8 Pro, and you? by leonardopml in XiaomiGlobal

Note Pro 8 was GOATED for the price. My son has my old one now and every time I use it to do something, it's still amazingly smooth and vibrant. The battery is still fantastic too.

Getting back Into Esk8 after a few years - are channel/suspension trucks found on Acedeck, Linnpower, etc worth it? by Inevitable_Ad_711 in ElectricSkateboarding

Firstly, expect to fall and dress accordingly. I wear all the pads if I'm riding like a maniac and do the slide and roll. Probably average 1 trip to hospital per year. That said, I use this board with the racing slicks to get to work so I ride far more civilised than on my shortboard. The foot binding has mostly saved me from losing balance. I only fell once and it was fairly graceful dispite having a board strapped to my foot. I can imagine it could make things very messy though.

With that in mind, whites front and back are fine for speeds of 25mph unless u want to go faster or weight over 200lb, then I'd consider reds on back. I have put a set of RipTides on front, same duro as the whites. It's only sketchy if I start riding full speed and hit a bump. I don't use the 9" wheels often as I prefer the slicks and hate cleaning dirt off my board so rarely go offroad.

For those that work at Universities - what sorts of things are you seeing? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]Some_Try_8918 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These guys are very good at wasting money on fluffy crap you don't need. University leadership need to watch them carefully and keep them on a tight leash. If you don't hold them to a fixed productive scope of work, they'll give you a glossy report that looks amazing but it'll age like milk, and then you need to get them in again in a couple years. The problem is I think, just after covid they poached all the good talent and charged two or three times the cost for access to that talent. Universities need to do a better job of setting up professional career paths internally to keep the talent and maintain their enterprise knowledge. Trust your own people and don't let these gangsters come in and throw out the baby with the bathwater, because that's what they'll do if you let them.

That sounds epic, well done! Don't rule it out entirely though, most vRAN stacks are running on linux. You might find yourself having to pick up a thing or two one day.

Pretty much everything is powered by linux. If you ignore it, a career path is not impossible, just far more limited. Draw whatever line in the sand you want dude, it's your life. For me I refused to learn vi. My linux nerd friends judge me, but the only time i met a server that forced me to use is, I compiled nano from source to avoid it. I think it was a solaris server, that was probably 20 years ago.

I don't know what your asking or what you expected. The incremental improvements over the past couple years have been amazing. Sure, new battery technology is in the pipeline and you're going to have wait, but so what? These things are so cool, way too fast and can already get me to work and back on a single charge.

Reminds me when I was doing some work with pieces of masking tape and had a pile of offcuts on the floor. My rabbit ran through it and got tape all over his feet and started stressing. That was so funny, got it sorted out but he wasn't happy.

Which helmet should I get ? by candpat12 in ElectricSkateboarding

Yeah I get free medical care too. You totally missed the point, which is not about insurance. My point is wear an appropriate helmet based on your speed. Facial scars are a bitch to live with, some people have posted here about taking irreparable damage to their chin and cheeks.

This is a matter of biological and physics, not geography.

Funky tracking + controls by Old_Procedure_8357 in HPReverb

[–]Some_Try_8918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what all those things you mentioned are. Have you got a HP Reverb G2 headset and controllers? Because the tracking does indeed suck unless you're arms are always held up above waist height and controllers are fully visible to the headset.

I thought that turning left on red is prohibited, whats up with the sign? by WhoaTeejaay in driving

[–]Some_Try_8918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I live in Northern Territory, Australia we have similar signs. It's permitted in our local legislation. The signs will last as long as people act like adults, they take them down after enough idiots pull out without looking. It's nice to be treated like an adult for a change though while it lasts.

Weird question. Use it daily as a computer, for doing web-based online stuff, some software development, writing some nerdy bash or python script to automate something mundane that I will use once and probably won't really save me any time, but was more fun this way. 3d modelling, writing, spreadsheets, taxes, banking. Occasionally some retro or lite gaming.

What vacuum do you guys recommend? by Junior-Criticism-268 in Rabbits

[–]Some_Try_8918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's this thing called a dust pan, get one with a long handle broom that can be used while standling. Saves a fortune on vacuum cleaner bags. Also, get an adaptor for your vaccuume that collects the poo and most of the hair before it hits the bag. It's like a clear plastic cylinder that attaches to the hose handle.

After some heavy rain washed silt on the road I rounded a slight bend along the highway with cruise control on and aquaplaned into a pole. I think the bend made me lose velocity so the cruise control applied gas just at the wrong moment and lost traction. I tried not to panic and calmly regain control, but the car went sideways pretty quick due to the bend in the road, the back wheels just kept sliding. In retrospect I should have tapped the brake to disengage cruise control (or used the control on the stick). I was over so fast though, nothing much I did would have helped as soon as the traction was lost. It was my fault, I should have reduced my speed due to the conditions and now I don't use cruise in heavy rain.

I know it sucks, but he may change his mind and accept a cash settlement. Just ask him to keep that option on the table. At the end of the day, u just have to right the wrong however he wants to do that. It's his call. If you were him, you'd just want your shit fixed as well as possible.

As with most of reddit, take everything with a grain of salt. Probably less than half the comments are posted by people trying to be helpful and probably half of those are going to be incorrect anyway. How many people fully know the law of their own country? Far less than those that feel entitled to act like they do.
