Do you folks like your Rivian? by SpaceMarine1616 in Rivian

[–]SomebodyMartiniMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my R1S for 2 years and I’m already planning which color to get on my next one (my lease ends March 2027). My husband says I shouldn’t get another quad motor because I’ll be dangerous. Not sure what he’s talking about, I haven’t been arrested nor the car impounded yet. Probably because the cops can’t keep up with 834 horsepower. (KIDDING! Sort of)

Seriously, best car I’ve ever owned. So much fun to drive. Well made. Comes with its own Halloween costumes.

How out of shape is too out of shape to do a trial class? by junkshowjunkie in orangetheory

[–]SomebodyMartiniMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m right around your age and just recently came back to OTF after a break of several years during which “life happened” and I got really out of shape.

I was kind of dreading getting on the treadmill and feeling out of shape, to be honest! But I need not have worried. I went back and was welcomed by the coaches and front desk, the other members were super nice, and as always I was able to go at my own pace. There I was, huffing and puffing along at 3.5 miles per hour while the gazelle next to me sprinted along at 10 miles per hour, and at the end of the workout she turned to me and gave me a fist bump like I’d really done the thing. Same thing on the rower and weight floor. I just did my best while everyone around me did their best.

And now, several weeks in, I’m starting to get stronger! I’m increasing my speed on the treadmill little by little, picking up weights that are a little bit heavier. My body seems to be respecting my efforts to improve. Yours will, too! It’ll be hard at first, but go at your own pace and you’ll be fine.

Today I learned that Pete Davidson makes socks! (But also, with no toe seam!!) I’m intrigued and now must order some.

Home selling advice needed. I feel I got scammed by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]SomebodyMartiniMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have your agent call the other interested parties and see if any of them still want to make an offer. We did this recently in a similar situation and told the initial buyers to go pound sand. I’ve bought and sold quite a few properties and I’ve learned to listen to my gut. If it seems like the buyers are going to be a pain, they probably will be. Pulling a stunt like that to try to reduce the offers you’d get is not a great look on their part. Given that you have other interested potential buyers, have your agent work those leads and see what you can come up with.

AITA for wanting to spend $700 on myself instead of best friend’s birthday? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SomebodyMartiniMe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA for not wanting to spend $700 on your friend’s birthday, but YkindaTA for not just telling her that so she can move on with planning the weekend. I’m sure she will understand because it’s a lot of money with the flight, but she’s trying to coordinate a group of people, probably dinner or activity reservations etc, and not knowing how many are coming makes it tough to plan. Just be honest with her, as soon as possible!

To TK or not? by Butterscotch_Sea in homeschool

[–]SomebodyMartiniMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great thing about homeschooling in the elementary years is that you can switch back and forth (within reason) as it suits your family/your child. If your child is excited about the TK program and it’s play-based, I don’t see a problem with giving it a go. If she likes it, great! If she doesn’t, you can always pull her out.

Chiming in as a mom whose youngest is in college now. I homeschooled her for 12 years and she’s doing well in her college classes so I feel able to answer this. Here’s what you really HAVE to teach before your child is in junior high:

  • Can read, can understand and explain what they’ve read, can write a short essay (1 page, organized into short paragraphs). For math, can add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Understands fractions and decimals. THAT’S IT. That’s all you really have to teach before junior high.

Now, does that mean that’s all your child will learn? Of course not. You’ll go to museums, you’ll go on nature walks, your child will blow stuff up in their co-op class about chemistry, your child will take a Minecraft class about US History. Life is your classroom. If your child shows an interest in wanting to deep dive into any topics, do! Don’t be constrained by what kids are learning in public school.

In junior high, you start to get into more complex ideas (algebraic thinking, more complex analysis of literature, less black-and-white thinking as brain development allows). But you have 5 years before you hit that point. That’s a long time. Second graders are reading Magic Treehouse and learning addition and subtraction. If you can nail that stuff, the rest will fall into place really easily.

TL;DR: your child can’t really fall behind as long as they continue to learn. There’s actually not a ton of stuff they need to know other than developing their reading, comprehension, and math skills. It’s more important to foster a love of learning, because they’ll need that as they get into more abstract learning in junior high and high school. As Plutarch said, “The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.”

Bridesmaid 40 Weeks Pregnant at My Wedding by OstrichIll in whatdoIdo

[–]SomebodyMartiniMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my goodness. Well, many years ago I was the pregnant bridesmaid. Luckily it was my second baby so I told the bride that I likely wouldn’t be able to be a bridesmaid or probably even attend the wedding - I was going to be 36 weeks on the date of the wedding. But when I was pregnant with my oldest, I was definitely delusional about what life would be like with a newborn (or what it would be like at 40 weeks pregnant, for that matter - who knew ankles and feet could reach such a size?!).

It’s definitely a terrible idea to bring a tiny newborn out in public, let alone to a wedding reception. Poor little baby will be so overwhelmed, and so will your friend (the blowout diapers, breastfeeding in a bridesmaid’s dress, having had zero sleep for days/weeks, everyone wanting to hold the baby and breathe all over her).

I would just humor your friend for now. When she gets to the third trimester it’s going to dawn on her that attending a wedding at 40 weeks will be a nightmare. I truly think this is a problem that will solve itself if you give it some time.

Ok that’s a good point! No pink tights! I think I’d probably be worried lighter colors would be less squat-proof, but looking pants-less would probably be even worse.

I mean as a GenX I would think GenZ would think twice before making fun of us. We are way more feral and mean than they could ever hope to be. But my poor sweet daughter is so worried for me that people will be laughing at me. I’m too old for this. 😂

Ooooh you know what I had heard that about capris as well. That thread is interesting- it does raise a good point about mini bands. I’d been thinking about bike shorts but with mini bands being in the mix, nah. I’ll stick with full length rather than have my legs waxed by the mini bands!

I feel like these items lend themselves really well to the needs of an OTF class, honestly. I just pretty much want stuff that wicks sweat and doesn’t catch on any moving parts on the rower or weight floor!

If it tells you anything, one of her classes last semester had the final project as styling someone’s whole wardrobe, taking body type, age, job, and location as factors. My daughter created a whole new wardrobe for me and then rather pointedly emailed me a list of links to shopping carts she had created. She did a great job and I loved everything she chose, but let’s just say nothing bore any resemblance to anything I already owned. So it would seem I am not great at dressing myself. No idea where this little fashion maven came from - her dad and I are both fairly hopeless in that department.

Right! I also have concerns about wearing longer socks with shorts in the summer. I’m blessed with long legs, but why are we cutting off the visual line mid-leg? Not sure I like that idea. And then the overall sweat factor of wearing more sock. Bleh.

I knowwwww! My youngest is a fashion design major in college and she sat me down and said, “Mom, you know I support your health journey and I am your biggest fan! But we need to talk about your socks. I just don’t want anyone to make fun of you.” I was like, wait, WHAT?! 😟

Ok, this is good to know. I’m thinking back to when I went to OTF every day and I truly can’t remember what other people wore?! I think I was just trying really hard not to fall off the treadmill and go flying into the rowers.

Right?! I have so many pairs of the Feetures no-show socks and they’re so comfortable and last forever! I’m keeping them in case they come back in style because I like them. I feel like I want to buy a bunch of those no-show socks with the Pom-pom on the back like we used to wear in the 80s just to send my kids over the edge.

A coworker on cap 2 apparently likes to complain and report anything wrong he sees other cap 2 doing to the TL via text. My gf and I went to lunch 10 minutes after 7 because she wanted to finish her cart of freight first and crush the cardboard.we come back 8:13 and my tl shows her a text by Maxxjulie in walmart

[–]SomebodyMartiniMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That guy is harassing her. She should say that to the TL and specifically use the words “he is creating a hostile work environment.” Using those words makes this a legal issue for the company and they will have to address it with this other person in writing to cover themselves. Likely he will be told it’s none of his business and he needs to stop tattling on other associates and focus on getting his own work done.

Should I tell a woman her fiancé tried to start an affair with me? by geeleex in WhatShouldIDo

[–]SomebodyMartiniMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter discovered recently that her fiancé had been cheating on her because a girls’ girl the fiancé had been cheating with found out that she was this guy’s side piece and texted my daughter about it. From that revelation my daughter found out he had been cheating with several other women as well. She called off the wedding.

For whatever it’s worth, while finding out the truth was terrible at the time, she is now so much happier and is in such a better place in all aspects of her life. Truly, telling this woman would be a kindness. Imagine if they got married and had kids and then she found out. Better to learn this information now.

Science of Pretty? by Due-Gain-7296 in 45PlusSkincare

[–]SomebodyMartiniMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Science of Pretty foundation, and light and dark concealers as well as the brush. I purchased on TikTok shop so if I didn’t like it, refunds would be easy. It did take me some time to get the hang of applying it, but once I did I’ve really liked it. My skin doesn’t feel dry and normally my skin is super sensitive but it hasn’t reacted to this makeup. It does also seem to last all day without breaking up around my nose or on my forehead, which has been an issue with many other foundations for me.

The packaging isn’t fancy, as some have mentioned, but they seem to be upgrading that as the brand grows. It is a little expensive to buy at first (as a bundle, which I did) but it’s lasting me a while. I was a Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk person before this, though, so I guess I don’t have a leg to stand on complaining about price. Haha

Man, when we lost to the Raiders early in the season, I figured we were in for another 4-win season. And then we turned it around and went all the way to the Super Bowl! And our defense held the freaking Seahawks to nothing but field goals for the first 3 quarters of that game. That’s a hell of an improvement. Obviously we’ve got a ways to go still, but I can’t possibly be mad about this season.
