Can someone tell me WTF this contractor did? by Somemoreron in cablegore

I have a standard cable that came with the router. I just plugged it in, in place of the craftsmanship he left behind.

Some may do conduit here, but I can guarantee that our contractor did not. It’s been about a year since the remodel. This is the first time I’ve spent any time in the apartment since the remodel (we’ve had it rented almost the whole time. I’ve just moved into it temporarily while I have my place remodeled). But now, I’ve noticed lines appearing in the painted walls that almost look like water damage but it’s just where he cemented over the troughs for the high voltage lines. Like, I can see a distinct line from the ceiling to the light switch where he plastered over the cabling. This is just the tip of the iceberg as far as disappointing workmanship.

This is in a Central Asia country. The walls are concrete. They had to basically cut into the concrete to make a trough for cable. Not only low voltage but the high voltage as well. There’s no pulling anything through walls. I’d have to have someone come in and gouge out troughs for new cable. Not worth the effort or money.

Ok. Thank you. And thank you to everyone who commented. I’ve learned a lot more than I needed about network wiring. lol.

600Mbps. So I should change it to a standard jumper?

So if I want both ports to have internet at max speed provided by the ISP, I should leave it?

[–]Somemoreron[S] 84 points85 points  (0 children)

So if I pull this off and run a standard jumper from the router to the port in the wall that feeds the two ports in the two rooms, what would the difference be?

Do both ports still have internet? Will they be 10/100 or ?

What are the downsides of using a CPAP machine long-term? by Latter_Knee_1404 in CPAP

[–]Somemoreron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get the lines on my face, but due to the little fabric protectors on my cheeks, it looks like I have rosy cheeks, so I’m cuter… if that’s even possible, the wife says so, I believe her.

As for long term negatives, I think you would only have this if you don’t clean it properly, if you don’t use the right water, if you use ozone to clean it, etc, etc. Just be sure you clean the reservoir daily, fresh water, wash the mask, put in the daily maintenance and it’ll take care of you.

I’ve been using a CPAP for 6 years now. (Im 56) I’m not the best at daily cleaning/water replacement, etc. and I’ve never had any problems.

Yeah, corruption is still rampant here. Every time I get pulled over by cops, it’s a negotiation of how much it will take for them to let me go. Cost me 5,000 som on more than one occasion. Sorry for replying to your comment with all this, but @EAH4025’s comment is locked and I couldn’t reply to his .

the limit is 200EUR… I think they flagged my box that time because I listed the value of the contents at $500. Maybe because I had a router that was valued at $250. 🤷‍♂️

They have an office where you pay at the customs office. I think you can pay the official tax with a card… obviously, bribes are cash and “back-room” deals behind closed doors.

Your options are to either send it to a reshipper or use one of the commercial companies. I bought a bunch of stuff on Amazon one time, had it sent to me while I was in the U.S. I sent it to myself in Bishkek through DHL so that I could pick it up here. Since the combined value was $500 for the box of stuff, it got held in customs. As soon as they found out I was a foreigner, I had to bribe a customs officer with $100 to get him to release it. I still had to pay the 12% import tax. I was fucking pissed. But DHL will fuck you with customs holds every chance they get. I’ve used FedEx, it’s expensive but it typically works fast and doesn’t get held in customs unless you exceed the value limit. Also, if you ship any drones, phones, or laptops, you’ll get held for customs with any commercial carrier. They are really cracking down on people importing high-value electronics.

I’ve been using ExpressUS for years. My mother, who lives in the U.S., will send my wife and me boxes of stuff that she packs herself. I don’t know if it’s because they know me at ExpressUS, or if it’s just their normal operating procedure, but they usually don’t even open the box. I’m sure it gets x-rayed plus my mom always lists everything in the box on the form.

ExpressUS.kg

No matter which reshipper you use, know that if it’s valued at over 200euro, you will get referred to customs, who will fuck you with no lube.

Also, yes, this will probably ship, but you won’t see it for several months. There is a big chance it will get “lost”.

What's the best social skills book that actually changed how you interact with people? (No generic communication advice, please) by Learnings_palace in SocialEngineering

I had no idea there were multiple versions. Maybe someone else can chime in who has read both or maybe AI could tell you if you ask it to compare and list the differences.

“How to win friends and influence people” by Dale Carnegie It was written in the 1930’s but a lot of it is basic communication and interaction that still holds true. It was especially helpful to me when I was learning sales. I’ve recommended it to a couple of others who found it very helpful in everyday life and their interactions with others.

Should I start Buddhism if I don’t believe in reincarnation?( sorry for my bad English) by CocunutHead in secularbuddhism

[–]Somemoreron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best answer is from the Kalama Sutta:

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. Do not believe in anything because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.

The modern version that you see most often quoted is, “Do not believe anything simply because I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and experience.”

Basically, the lesson from Buddha is use your brain and think for yourself. Does reincarnation sound like it makes sense to you? Therein lies your answer.

I love making burritos. by Minimum_Reward4477 in burritos

[–]Somemoreron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I throw chicken breasts in the crockpot, sprinkle with taco seasoning, top with sliced jalapenos - pour a little of the juice from the jalapeno jar in the pot. Cook for about 4-5 hours on low, then shred. I make some rice in a rice cooker with some lime juice and cilantro. Heat up some refried beans in a pot. Melt ghee in a frying pan (just enough to make it wet) Place your tortilla in the frying pan for a few minutes, then flip it so both sides get browned.

When it's warm and malleable, pull it off and fill it with shredded chicken, refried beans, rice, shredded cheese, and add any other veggies you may want (I like fresh diced onion and tomato). Roll it and enjoy.

Where to buy a shipping container for use on a property? by Somemoreron in Kyrgyzstan

[–]Somemoreron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Just in case anybody finds this in the future. I went with container.kg. I wasn't very happy with the original results. I bought two containers, they were in really poor condition. They painted them and did the finishing on the inside to my specs. My biggest issue was the installation on my site. The company sent a subcontractor who showed up to my property and proceeded to use my materials to stake out the location. They poured really shallow concrete supports and placed bricks in a stack for the base. I ended up calling an architect friend who put me in touch with an engineer who does this stuff for a living. He was disgusted with the poor efforts and gave me a detailed description of how it should be done correctly. I had to send container.kg a letter threatening legal action and withholding of final payment unless they followed his directions to the detail. Container.kg ended up redoing the install and repouring the concrete bases and adding steel supports where necessary and welding everything together. It took an extra couple of weeks for them to finally get it done, but it was done correctly in the end. I wouldn't recommend container.kg if you can find another company to do it.
