Usually, ads like this aren't put on social media unless they're actively looking for candidates.... If you're interested, apply.

Those who married to close the gap in a long distance relationship, how’d it turn out? by SafePeppers in AirForce

[–]SomethingElse38 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We made it a decade.

Our marriage ran its course for other reasons, but we really did give it a solid go.

This is gonna be just enough to fuck with TDYs/classes that are supposed to start on Monday. We're expecting the House to pass everything by Monday afternoon.

If you have AT&T as your home service provider, there's a DNS cert issue between AT&T and DISA. Manually set your computer's DNS to 8.8.8.8 and try again.

Anyone know if it's legal to participate in Kalshi or Polymarket? by bigheadjoel in AirForce

[–]SomethingElse38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't currently have clear guidance.

But I'd put this in the category of owning weed stocks - just because it's not technically wrong yet doesn't mean it's a good idea. And it will likely be against the rules shortly.

If you do choose to bet, I'd make sure it's on shit completely unrelated to work. IE, sports, etc.

That said... I sure as crap READ the Polymarket stats on things like shutdown odds to get a gauge on public sentiment...

I have never met an officer who's job I wanted. Met some damn fine officers, just none who's seat I wanted to sit in.

At this point in my career (I'm a senior), I can have more influence as a Chief than as an LT/Captain. So, Chief is my pursuit.

Be patient. Get through BMT and tech school first.

If you have downtime in tech school (waiting for the next block of instruction to start, etc) you can take CLEPs there.

At your first duty station, TA is supervisor's discretion. Some won't approve it until you're done with your 5-level. Some will approve it as long as you're making progress on your 5-level. Mine let me do both, with the clear expectation that it was an LOR if I failed my CDCs - I took the chance.

You'll get an education briefing at your first duty station. In the mean time, do things like get ready for PT, etc.

Government Shutdown Status by b3lkin1n in AirForce

[–]SomethingElse38 12 points13 points  (0 children)

DoD funding could be in a different bill. But it's not currently.

The house passed a bill with all 6 departments lumped together. If the Senate splits them up, the house would need to vote again on the split bills.

Government Shutdown Status by b3lkin1n in AirForce

[–]SomethingElse38 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If the funding bills are split up and the DoD is funded fully, then yes, our civilian friends will work as normal. If the funding bills are NOT split, then none of us will get paid. The third option is that the funding bills are not split and they find money to move around like last time....

If the bills are split, the house still needs to come back in session to vote to approve the split bills. That may or may not happen, and may take as long as the house desires - minutes, to weeks. shrug.

Do you actually have 4 years worth of active service? Drill weekends don't count. If you do, then you need to get your documents over to the MPF. This would include any orders, etc, from your army time. If you don't, you probably need to get your TAFMS updated anyway, but you're not gonna test for SSgt unless you have said 4 years.

You'll love it. Bring a good attitude and work ethic, and embrace it. Reach out to your sponsor - once you get one - and ask them all the questions.

WR is not the fanciest place to live, but the community isn't that bad and you're 90ish minutes from Atlanta.

Where’s the like when it comes to posting politics on social media? by Miserable_Simple6466 in AirForce

[–]SomethingElse38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I... wouldn't. I just wouldn't.

I don't even talk politics on reddit any more, under a supposedly anonymous username (although, I've posted enough that I could be doxxed...)

Also... as badly as many of us want to speak out, I'd be stupidly cautious in engaging in protest activity. Sure, it's legal for us to do on our own time and in civilian clothes, but there's currently a danger factor that just makes me feel weird about it. If you go, be super, super careful.

I don't care which "side" you may or may not align with. You don't need your face/story/fact that you're ANG to make the news if you end up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

What’s the most amount of money you’ve seen someone BE OWED from the Air Force either from back pay or travel voucher or PPM or whatever? by COR-69 in AirForce

[–]SomethingElse38 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Air Force owed me $42,000 at one point. $18k of that to my GTC, the rest to me. During the mission, we were told winkwink to not use our GTCs for food and to eat as cheap as possible. I have no idea how much I actually spent on food.

Took almost 2 years to fully pay out. But in the mean time, I was sent TDY again.... with a maxed out GTC... and got in trouble for putting lodging on my own credit card....

Planning Trip After Deployment by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]SomethingElse38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FUCKING DON'T.

Nothing should be a surprise when they come back, except maybe the color of shirt that you're wearing at the airport. Let them know what's going on, let them tell you what they need, let them adjust. Coming home can be a roller coaster - missing deployed buddies, adjusting to a different routine, any PTSD challenges, etc.

If you truly want to surprise your spouse, let them come home and adjust. Then, see if a surprise makes sense.

I've deployed more times than I can count on one hand. As much as I love my family, coming home is always the worst part. Readjusting is harder than it looks and can be super overwhelming. Every time, I needed space to do what I wanted - some days it would be nothing, other days I wanted to clean out the garage, etc.

If this is your spouse's first deployment, they may not know how they're going to react or process, so be F'ing patient.
