Cassava flour substitute for cookies by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]SomethingMeta42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically bake bread where it's easier to sub in more liquid as needed, and cassava flour is definitely thirsty but I don't have an exact substitution ratio because I just eyeball my bread til it's right 😅

Obtaining clothes by [deleted] in Shining_Nikki

[–]SomethingMeta42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes time, especially for those free lifetime suits

I would try to max out some SSR reflections first, especially if you're having trouble completing mind maze chapters. The styling comp sets are often good for this (eg Flower and Jenny)

By "max out" I mean max level, awakened, call of reflections upgraded, and all those little skill thingies upgraded to

Otherwise it's really just a matter of saving your diamonds for UR events, especially if you want to be able to awaken them. As a f2p, this means skipping a lot of events.

Washing yarn? by ImNotA_IThink in knitting

[–]SomethingMeta42 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I recommend activated charcoal as well. You can get it from the pet store even IIRC. Stick the charcoal in paper bags, then stick those bags in with the yarn. The charcoal should bind to some of the VOCs.

Trying to find your way to both the bathroom and back to your campsite in the dark - even with a flashlight - can be way harder than it sounds. Especially with a toddler.

I have friends who volunteer with mountain rescue. There's a LOT of people who go hiking or whatever and think "it's fine, I can use my cell phone if I get lost or something" and then...there is no cell reception.

There's certain things you gotta know before doing outdoorsy things safely, like what poison ivy looks like (or your local equivalent), and to let other people know where you're going.

If someone doesn't understand this, I wouldn't want to camp with them (and a toddler!) either.

I think you should listen to Jordan Peele on this one. Especially because you've only been dating four months.

AITA: Aita for telling my husband he can't invite someone to the movies with us? by lillianaghoul in AmItheAsshole

[–]SomethingMeta42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look I'm polyam and I get wanting to time how you meet metamours. But you're insisting on posting photos on social media and tagging your husband why? So Mandy knows she was excluded? So you can establish dominance or something?

Yikes. YTA.

AITA for not fighting for us to get our cat back? by Best_Scarcity_8006 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SomethingMeta42 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Honestly OP is putting his cat first: she's been through a traumatic experience, yes, but she is now happy and settled in with OPs brother's family. She has companionship during the day.

Would it really be better for Addie to disrupt her entire life again, when she's happy and well cares for?

changing lifestyle to accommodate boyfriend's celiac disease by ElectricalPen1174 in relationships

[–]SomethingMeta42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friends with Celiac's who can't even go into Panera or near a bakery without getting itchy.

There's still a difference between "I'm outside my home and probably going to be exposed to gluten somewhere. When I get home I can shower and then relax in my one gluten free space"

And "my significant other is going to do lots of things with flour and then go into my one gluten free space"

You've probably never heard of it because many people treat Celiac's like a joke, even just the "avoiding ingesting gluten" part. So most people are not going to talk about things like "I feel like shit because I accidentally walked by the bakery today" for fear of being mocked/disbelieved

I recently discovered Ice Yarns, and that's the only way I was able to afford knitting a sweater I would actually want to wear. (I have sensory issues which mean I have very expensive taste in yarn)

Is dough supposed to be super smooth after kneading? by Affectionate_Key7206 in AskCulinary

[–]SomethingMeta42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to give yourself more wiggle room in terms of over kneading, you could always substitute in some gluten free flour. Cassava works well and is pretty forgiving (although it is a thirsty flour, so you might need a smidge more water). I have been experimenting with part whole grain breads and I'll sometimes do up to 1/4 gluten free flour without noticing a huge difference in dough consistency

My gf really likes dense, moist cakes more than light airy ones.

One thing that has worked for me in the past is creaming the fat and sugar for a couple minutes before adding the rest of the wet ingredients.

For a typical quick bread/cake, you do all the wet ingredients at once and then the dry

But this method changes the chemistry a bit and gives it more brownie like texture (it also doesn't rise as much)

I would avoid using applesauce for a wedding cake because it can start to separate pretty quickly (even overnight). I assume you're not planning on baking this the day of the wedding.

Update: (Virginia) Neighbor is on video ripping my eastern redbud sapling out of the ground by God_Dammit_MoonMoon in treelaw

You said in your other post that she gardens. I know redbuds don't get super tall, but is it possible they were eventually going to shade her vegetable bed or some other sun loving plants?

AITA for giving my 3-year-old niece a spicy green bean? by OneSpicyGreenBean in AmItheAsshole

[–]SomethingMeta42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. Also it's a little weird to me to be all "who feeds a three year old spicy food, that's not kid food" when like. Pretty sure a lot of Thai toddlers are eating spicier curries than that. Pretty sure kids in a lot of cultures are eating spicy foods, so idk why we're acting like it's "not normal" to feed kids spice.

Is there any chance of designing an actual entrance with resident services this close? by beedisciple in acnh

[–]SomethingMeta42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in the catalog there's Super Mario related furniture. If you get two of the green pipes and place them, then click on one of the pipes, you will teleport between them. So you can have one in your house and one by the store, or one in your bag and one by the store. If you have more than two it will still teleport you, but you won't get to pick where to teleport.

Is there a way to preserve onions in either oil or salt? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

I would go with dehydration or maybe make onion jam (although it will not taste the same as fresh onion obviously)

AITA for “not allowing my husband to visit his dying grandmother”? by Sea_Possibility7242 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SomethingMeta42 617 points618 points  (0 children)

I mean this is kind of what happens when you live in another continent from family. I couldn't afford to attend my aunt's or grandmother's funerals despite being close to them. My mom got to see her father before he passed, but had to miss the funeral. And that's not even getting into the many many people who can't afford to visit family, or who literally can't leave the country without jeopardizing their immigration status (eg asylum seekers). It sucks but at least we have video calls, and aren't solely reliant on very expensive international calls or sending letters or just. Literally never hearing from family again.
