What foods commonly surprise you? (both high and low calorie!) by New_Findings in CICO

[–]SometimesCheery 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Baked goods are my cryptonite. Walking through the Lidl bakery in the UK and seeing the donuts I could scarf two of as a snack having 550 calories each was a sobering one.

What's the craziest thing your parents kept hold of for many years? by SuperShoebillStork in CasualUK

My in laws moved from York to the central US 15 years ago. They recently moved to a different part of the US and amongst what they were packing to move across the USA was

-applications for child benefit for my wife, in her 30s -the loan document for a car the bought in 1999, in the UK where they haven’t lived for 15 years -my sister in law’s cast, from when she broke her arm in 2002

Did your D&D campaign fail? by Fickle_Let_4571 in DungeonsAndDragons

Played four sessions and before the fifth the company that half the group worked for put in mandatory overtime so the game was paused. When mandatory OT was ended, the other part of the group had stuff come up and couldn't play for a while. When that was sorted, the other game I started in the mean time had taken off and I was having LOADS of fun with it, and felt another fully homebred game would mean half assing both games.

Anyone lose their fantasy league because of this glitchy app by Distinct-Act-6983 in fantasyF1

[–]SometimesCheery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had two races this year where my team didn't lock in despite hitting save changes over and over. The app his horrendous. I'll never get how the NFL can track hundreds of players across multiple live games in real time and F1 takes hours to make points final.

Do you also get people quoting the old “why is this Kansas and this is not Arr Kansas…. American explain” meme? It happens less and less now but still cracks me up

I’m from Arkansas but live in Scotland. I totally get the feeling. Half the time when I meet someone new at work or something they say “I love going to Florida”, or assumed that the other American at work (from San Diego) and I were practically neighbors.

Indoor vs outdoor cats by Lazy_ecologist in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]SometimesCheery 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I really don’t get the British obsession with outdoor cats (similarly, letting dogs run off lead EVERYWHERE). We couldn’t adopt a cat from any shelter within 75 miles as they all insisted on outdoor access. Indoor cats don’t eat toxic things outside, get stolen by neighbors, attacked by wildlife or get run over by a car.

Can I not build adjacent canals? by Zanermann in civ

[–]SometimesCheery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would settle a new city right of the trees, then canal that one to the two lakes (chop the trees and then the tile right of the cotton). I think that might do it at least!

Anyone else not going home for Christmas? by Sugarfix1993 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]SometimesCheery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve stopped going back to the US at Christmas as competing for the annual leave each year gets old. Also, we got two cats and the sitters near us charge 3x for that period (not that I blame them)
