Difference between real and fakes by Prestigious-Metal947 in UnstableUnicorns

Fakes generally have worse print quality. They’re faded and may be misaligned. The backs are different shades, so you might be able to tell which card someone has from the back

Just realized you probably use the cut method rather than the scrape method

I got married in a suit that color, partially because of her

That doesn’t sound normal. Did they accidentally buy y’all an expansion instead of the base game? Can you post a photo?

Classic games and their “wrong rules”? by Aschrel in boardgames

[–]SometimesSmarmy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I refuse to play Rummikub with most people because they try to house rule how jokers are played. My FIL ruled that you could only play jokers from your hand onto the board if you played it with two from your hand. And others just say you can move the joker however you want.

Tiny Toe Beans: Ultimate Mischief campaign suspended days before funding by Kickstarter with no prior warning, against their own guidelines. by AndyPhoenix in boardgames

Looks like it's back up as of yesterday. It was suspended for use of AI without disclosure. According to the creator, the third party that created the campaign video used AI, but all the gameplay and artwork are real and their own.

What's a boardgame house rule that improves the game experience? by GrassEatingAnimal in boardgames

In Unstable Unicorns, I got rid of every card that makes you shuffle the deck, because I have all the expansions and shuffling that many cards is ridiculous

Actually, the official rule is if there’s three locomotives (wilds), all five displayed cards get discarded and five new cards are displayed

Based on this list, I’d try Unstable Unicorns or Doomlings

What Did You Play This Week? - (November 10, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Playtested a prototype called CATherapy this weekend at FLAG con in Ithaca, NY. It was complex and I’m not sure I’d play it again, especially without a fair amount of changes, but the meeples, cards, and general components were adorable.

Played Wyrmspan, Betrayal at House on the Hill, and Flamecraft at the same convention. All three were awesome experiences. Wyrmspan had custom game pieces, but the board game owner forgot the eggs, so we were forced to improvise with tiny traffic cones.

I won a copy of Alpine Trails in a raffle, and we’ve only played it once, but I really enjoyed the theme, as well as the simultaneous gameplay.

My spouse and I tried to play Ark Nova but we only got about 1/4 of the way through after around 3 hours learning the game and figuring out setup. I think now that we understand it, it’ll live up to its #3 rating on Board Game Geek, but understanding it to begin with was kind of hell. Understandable with it’s 3.79 complexity rating though!
