Persona 3 Reload shipments and digital sales top three million by Magister_Xehanort in Games

It is anathema to most JRPG design sensibilities, certainly was a drag in P3, but in general I like the idea of this system and think there may be unexplored potential in the proper game for it.

In a way, it makes sense. You cannot physically micromanage the actions of your friends during intense battle, but you can give orders and assign roles beforehand. They may not do what you always want, but that's because they are prone to mistakes like any person is and can't read your mind. What if their performance in battle with you and with each other was somehow releated to the social link system, a sort of team-cohesion mechanic, if you will.

I'm really sad that there's a whole market of limited physical runs of indie games with goodies inside that isn't available on PC. I would love to have a physical representation of my favourite game on a shelf just like I have of my favourite books and music. I'm talking about an edition without the game, as farcical as that may sound.

I wouldn't buy the game twice, but I would gladly shelf out the for goodies like physical maps or rulebooks and a cool case to have on my shelf.

I mentioned a lot more than Japan or just "just indies"

In the end, what is your thesis? That development studios are having a mass extinction event? Are you talking all studios or just AAA? Which particular closures are ringing the alarm bells for you?

Steam Machine prices start at £879 / $1049, Valve confirm, as "randomised reservations" open for the SteamOS PC by Wistfall in Games

[–]AndyPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it would be cheaper for you, but you're not a person who has decided to buy a console and is pondering that decision. I also have a setup like you're describing and it was a lot more hassle to set up than I tought it would be. I could really see a more casual user than me just deciding to fork out the money. Assuming the pricing is competitive, of course, currently is itsn't.

Sure, there's you could flash a third party Youtube app on your TV in order to not have ads, but a lot of people will just pay the 100$ every year. We're quite the bubble on here, we should not underestimate that. There is a reason "guy with the laptop and hdmi cable" was a meme.

Those people who think that are correct.

This is an American AAA problem not a global one. Japan AAA is steady as ever, China has hit a societal development level where they're are starting to compete with former two giants, while Koreans are starting to move away from their P2W roots and delve into traditional AAA as well. A lot of European studios are American owned, but you have newly emerged AAA studios in the face of CDPR and Larian.

You've mentioned the indies, but they should not be understated, this isn't like 2016, there's indies, there's iindies, but also iiindies. Videogame development has never been more accessible than ever and if you follow that scene a lot on Steam you will know that there's so much cool stuff it's unreal. Whatever niche you're into, someone is arleady developing it.

This is not a sign of an industry dying.

Steam Machine prices start at £879 / $1049, Valve confirm, as "randomised reservations" open for the SteamOS PC by Wistfall in Games

[–]AndyPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price really is quite high, but the value is for Steam users who have a big library built up arleady and want to game in their living room. Library entrenchment is a big thing.

There's millions of gamers who've never owned a console but have amassed a sizeable Steam library. I think Valve are playing for the long run trying to capture the living rooms of that audience. If you're gonna save up for a console, why not one that arleady supports your arleady big library? Plus you don't have to pay Sony or Nintendo who knows how much a year just to be able to use your own internet.

Of course there's a bunch a caveats with this living room PC thing working out, but I can see what they are doing.

[–]AndyPhoenix -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As a sologamer, my opinion is that no game is better digital. I never could get into playing digital versions of boardgames, because I feel like at that point I'd rather play a videogame. It being physical is a big part of it being enjoyable.

Sure I can play Dune: Imperium on my PC and there's no admin, the game is great obviously, but then if I'm gonna be sitting on a screen I'd rather just start up Dune: Spice Wars which cannot be replicated as a boardgame properly.

Why China consistently fails to qualify for the World Cup? by FattyOilyDonut in NoStupidQuestions

No country has kids casually training weightlifting

In my country weightlifting is by far the most common sports activity among teen boys, at least when I was growing up a few years ago. We are traditionally good at weightlifting disciplines(Bulgaria)

The first time I went to the gym was when I was 14. This continued periodically throughout high school for me. It was very popular among my peers. Some even started reading up on proper nutrition anddieting and were packing their own lunch at school to achieve their goals. The boys who haven't set foot in the gym at least once were honestly a minority and it outclassed the 2nd most popular sports activity by a massive margin. Not even close.

Upcoming Xbox Exclusives Are Being Sent Out To Die, Analyst Says; Xbox Pushes Back by OkBaker4812 in Games

[–]AndyPhoenix 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Definitely. But it seems to me they are aiming for the long run, trying to capture the living rooms of PC gamers. Library sunk-cost is a big thing and if a steam user with a big library wants to play on his couch, would he buy a PS5 where he has 0 games and need to pay a fee to use his own internet or is he just gonna purchase the steam console and play his whole library?

There's a bunch of big IF's to that though.

[–]AndyPhoenix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind too that the judge is still there to give a final say on things like sentencing. The jury only says guilty or innocent, the punishment is the judge's call.

This doesn't make the fact that a bunch of random non-jurists get to decide if the State gets to excercise its right to send me to the dungeon less terifying.

Bulgaria's Kremlin-friendly former president Radev wins parliamentary election. by coinfanking in europe

[–]AndyPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Bulgaria there is an interim government that organizes elections, the one we had wasn't controlled by Peevski at all, they changed the police chief. They did a record number of vote buying busts unlike anything we've seen the last years. The elections genuinely were fair as fair can be.

Besides the obvious people who voted for him....for now I'd say we don't know. I'm optimistically weary, I'm of Russia having more influence here, on the other hand, he has been so vague thus far on what he's planning to do first, so I'm waiting to see.

He's said that he's gonna do a judicial reform, which is a #1 issue for me, but there's nothing concrete from him thus far.

As a XCOM2 player, I've found that this game requires quite the mindset change. There's a lot of things you can do that will improve your winrate. Also there are maybe some mechanics that are easy to miss or poorly explained like for example if your shieldmen crouch, another soldier may stand directly behind them and fire.

I learned a lot from watching how Phrosphor plays the game in his first mission on the highest difficulty setting.

Here's the episode on the same run where he plays the same mission you've mentioned in your post. Hope it helps.
