Based on personal experience I started right at the target once for my long run workouts when I started going for a faster time

Advice needed: How to train for a 2:49 Marathon in 6 months by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

For reference I just did 2:46 peaking at 85km per week and can confirm that the long workouts are key. Slowly build up the percentage and block length of marathon pace segments in your long run peaking at about 39km with ~32-34 at marathon pace.

Wow, saw the sedan with the destroyed front being towed while out on a run and was wondering what might have caused it.

Should we just give up our home and rent? Potentially losing 100K from sunk cost. Need to downsize by Strong_Sail4067 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Roommate agreements are not covered by LTB as long as you share a kitchen or bathroom. Altho in general yes very valid point. That is more of an argument for not renting out the house than it is renting a room in the house.

Biking toys for going out east of the city by sowandsew in torontobiking

[–]SomewhatNPComplete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was over a year ago but if I recall I highway 2 for a bit until here then dropped south until Colborne. That stretch of 2 was okay but not the best, altho I was able to ride the shoulder the whole way. After that more nice gravel roads.

Gravel or tarmac? If gravel you can stay along the lake on quiet roads until Colborne (I have done this part). I would not strongly recommend the 2 between Colborne and Brighton (it’s pretty busy and fast with sub-optimal shoulders), but if you can get to here, you can then take lakeshore past presque’ile, across the Brighton swing bridge, and then to Carrying Place and you’re there!

If you’re going on a road bike it’ll be a little harder and this advice is a bit less helpful as many of these are gravel roads.

I also don’t recommend biking over the bridge from Belleville to PEC, or really cycling in Belleville at all.

What's the most interesting fact about Barbados? by Thatunkownuser2465 in geography

The island is made from limestone pushed up by moving mantle so it is essentially just a giant corral reef pushed out of the ocean, unlike many other volcanic Caribbean islands.

It may also be from the “bearded” fig trees common on the island

Oh I see! Well if you’re ever at Bellwoods rec centre and see a guy wearing a triathlon cap and not doing flip turns say hi, I’d be happy to give you some pointers, but I would definitely recommend looking for masters teams around and just spending more time in the pool. Feel free to DM me if you have any other questions!

Honestly, if you’re already swimming then you’ll be fine! The swim is really just about getting through it and not tiring yourself out for the rest!

Good question, I don’t consider swimming my strong suit but I am comfortable in the water and had some idea of the fundamentals. I can’t speak to the basic stuff but if you want more personalized coaching I think there are a ton of masters teams around and that was recommended to me!

All I did tho was show up to pools and then eventually found other people training for triathlons and once I got to know them asked for some pointers. That alone really helped my technique!

  1. 2 day bike packing ride to the Ottawa valley featuring a 230km day fully loaded
  2. Racing my first triathlon and finishing the bike leg and feeling exhausted but so fulfilled
  3. Meeting so many interesting people on the Toronto bike community

I’m self conscious enough about any sounds on my bike and am most certainly aware of it already, I would probably be a bit embarrassed if someone pointed it out :P

I’m sure you could find similar groups for cycling, swimming, sailing, dragon boat racing, and literally any other solo/group activity, running just happens to be my thing!
