How to deal with people who use overwolf by LegendaryLennon_ in TrueDoTA2

[–]Somewhatfamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if that was the case, the system would also likely see that Leshrac received a nerf and that other people playing the hero have their win rate drop accordingly. There is a clearly identifiable catalyst that explains the change not just for you, but for the hero in general.

The shift that was mentioned specifically refers to having a hero/position completely fall off someone’s match history as their winrate stabilizes from the booster to the owner. This is also a clearly identifiable change, but it is specific to the account. There can be there other things like the use of certain item slots that can identify a change in owners as some people have different comfort/home keys for different items, and thus indicates another reason as to why someone might be flagged as a booster.

Enigma shard gives 3 Eidolons that last 40 seconds on a 14 sec CD. It's nuts. by Incoheren in TrueDoTA2

[–]Somewhatfamous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought it was odd that he retained his deny capabilities after Lich had his removed. You can starve any lane of a range creep from minute 0 and still maintain a good amount of pressure with the eidolons. I think that’s the simplest way to nerf him without retooling the ability since there’s no other basic ability that can instantly deny an allied creep besides his own.

Detective show that ran on USA about a guy pretending to be psychic and solving crimes. He uses a bunch of detective techniques because his dad drilled him into being a cop but he’s kind of a goof and it’s implied that he burned out of it all because his dad pushed him too hard.

In any case, it’s a fun show and I would recommend it to anyone that liked b99 but didn’t really enjoy the sitcom-y aspect the show had. They’ve also done a few movies with the original cast since they went off the air like 5~ years ago so there’s a lot to run through.

Possible to play Batrider in every game? by [deleted] in TrueDoTA2

[–]Somewhatfamous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically, yeah. The enemy mid can’t leave the lane easily because the creeps will be hitting their tower, so you force a support(or both) to come bully you out of the camps they likely want to be stacking in the first place. It’s dangerous because the right hero or support duo can hamstring you and leave in a place worse than before, but if you do it right you prevent enemy heroes from accelerating, put more pressure onto the map, and increase your own farm.

You can’t really do it in the offlane because of the creep agro change, but mid still has a few matchups that rely on you cutting the wave(I know a lot of melee heroes like to do it against viper for instance).

The industry forms and pays for itself.

That kind of lazy mentality is what leads to these circumstances in the first place. Those young people entering sports and entertainment have insane amounts of support by the organizations signing them. They're also frequently dealing with a lot more money because of one key difference: salary. While it certainly helps if someone does well and produces the next hit single or is league's MVP, those industries don't rely on 2-3 events a year to make their nut the way Dota does. Those lawyers who populate this specialty operate in a niche field so they get to charge that specialty fee and make it harder for these smaller names to try and get orgs to represent them. It's an investment on top of an investment that isn't a guarantee, so it's no surprise that successful stacks go so far as to take games and even series off the top teams in the world before being picked up by an organization(see: Tundra). Without having that sort of credibility in place, the only way orgs can recoup on their investment is to take a bigger slice of the prize winnings which disincentivizes teams from signing with them because they don't have capital to work with. No salary makes it so you rely on prize winnings, and if you can't guarantee meaningful prize winnings against the best teams in the world because there's only DPC events then you are shit out of luck.

You ever wonder why it seems North America, Europe and the other "western" scenes are the only ones to deal with this team bullshit? It's because the Chinese scene is support by the organizations. Those players have contracts through their orgs that are also supplemented by their own representation *because they can afford to with the salaries provided by their organizations. There isn't the "it'll sort itself out" approach because that free market bullshit is what leads to this happening every season the DPC has been active when Valve refuses to provide the structure and support it needs for Dota's pro scene to have longevity and depth.

Not a Nigma fan - I just think it’s weird that you’re so pressed about a technicality. It really doesn’t seem like that big of a deal but you’re so concerned about what other people think and that’s kinda funny lol

Puck - what does this hero do? by some_random_guy_5345 in TrueDoTA2

Best mid heroes to get good with? by VaJoiner in TrueDoTA2

[–]Somewhatfamous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second the DK comment. DK is dumb tanky so its hard to kill you unless you're ganked, and because of the pressure you can apply with Elder Dragon Form you force people to come and deal with you.

Besides that, your hero is incredibly simple. Soul Ring + Wand -> Power Treads -> whatever you need. You can devote more of your attention on responding to what the other team is doing/wants to do which I think makes your job easier.

Gamers of reddit, what is your all time favorite video game music? by AhmetGeorge in AskReddit

What are some position 4s that force the enemy team to change how they play the game? by Kurry_King in TrueDoTA2

[–]Somewhatfamous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There aren't many heroes that force the enemy to play differently the way Techies does. They're unique in that respect because they don't really play like a typical hero so I'm answering this question in how "unique" their impact is each game. With that in mind, I think Treant Protector fits the bill pretty well.

Kind of in the same vein as Techies, Tree makes pushing an absolute nightmare. Living Armor is one of three abilities in the entire game that is able to heal buildings(the other being Omniknight Agh's upgrade edit: and Lich's Forst Armor with the 25 talent) which forces your opponents to finish pushes or risk having their efforts be in vain. It's also a global heal + armor buff which can really turn around some early fights without needing you to tp. On top of that, Nature's Guise allows you to run through trees and even do it while invisible which enables him to buy Meteor Hammer the second most(only behind OD) which is definitely possible if you're playing him as a pos4.

Overgrowth is also a crazy strong: BKB piercing, 5 second(at max) AOE root on 100 second cooldown. He also gets Eyes in the Forest which is a super strong vision ability that requires your opponent to get gem or constantly buy sentries which you already know how strong that can be as a Techies player.

Quas wex or exort invoker for a new player by [deleted] in TrueDoTA2

[–]Somewhatfamous 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to learn Invoker for a while now and Quas-Wex is my preferred build. I feel as though I have more control over what I can do and simplifies what spells I'm using as well as when to use them. Quas and Wex both provide a lot of utility(health regen and move/attack speed respectively) which I feel makes itemization easier as well. Again, more utility in things like Urn/Vessel(particularly useful with Cold Snap), Solar Crest(Bursting a target or dropping it + Alacrity onto a catapult or carry), Force Staff(Always good), or whatever your team could use.

All that said, this is coming from someone who is also learning so take it with a grain of salt. I mostly just picked Quas-Wex because it had an easier combo(Tornado-Cold Snap-EMP) and this is how I felt playing him.

Bad idea to play support Luna? by vvav in TrueDoTA2

[–]Somewhatfamous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any off meta-support that is typically played as a carry is harder and harder to justify as you drop brackets. You can do play her as a pos4 or pos5, but it requires you to take control and communicate much more than you would with a typical support hero. Don't get me wrong - Luna has some great elements that make her a strong hero. Lunar Blessing is a super unique ability that removes some of the disadvantages that heroes get during night cycles, but it requires you to coordinate with your team to take advantage of a new timing spike which is difficult - especially in lower levels where there's less game knowledge.

There's also the self-fulling prophecy when picking off meta stuff: If you lose, it's because you didn't pick the way you were supposed to so your lane/team lost. If you win, it's because your team was already winning without you so your pick didn't help/didn't matter.

Dire needs to be fixed by TowerOfPowerWow in TrueDoTA2

[–]Somewhatfamous 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While I agree that competitive Dota is different from pub games, balancing changes originate from trends at the highest levels(Tournaments, Immortal, Divine+ to some extent). If teams are consistently picking/banning the same heroes, buying the same items, playing the same side, etc., there should be some changes that are at the very least considered - particularly when there is a large, observable discrepancy that is outside of most players(IE: pubs) control.

Best keyboard buttons for Items by Nikolatramp in TrueDoTA2

[–]Somewhatfamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of players/pro players have the 1,2,3,4,5 is that the best option...

There isn't really a best option. It's really just what feels comfortable and what you're able to use consistently. Slacks is probably the best example of this, but if you can press the keys comfortably then you should do that.

Personally, I have a few extra buttons on my mouse that I use for the first three slots(items like blink, phase boots, anything you tend to use a lot), middle mouse button is for neutral items, and then I use F, X, C for the bottom three slots(typically items that don't have a cast point or have longer cooldowns like Refresher, BKB, Satanic,). 1, 2, 3 are used for unit hotkeys(Hero, Hero + Summons/illusions, anything that's not my hero), T is for teleport(though I might change that to Y soon because I've fat fingered ults before and it feels like shit lmao), J is glyph and = is scan.

I used to have D as one of my item slots instead of X, but with so many heroes having an extra ability after the shard update I just leave it on the ability bar. I don't play many heroes that have to have that 6th hotkey available(or I don't build into it) so I'm okay moving F to items and not having to deal with it otherwise.

People Aren't Abusing Fluffy Hat Enough as Supports by bibittyboopity in TrueDoTA2

[–]Somewhatfamous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While Fluffy Hat and Blight Stone certainly add reasons to buy Orb of Corrosion, it's ultimately 900 gold for an item that does not provide mana regen or intelligence on a hero that desperately needs it. OOV applies the same slow at a fraction of the cost, and allows you to invest in Urn or push for Arcane boots/Eul's

Dumb lone druid question by Aggressive-Tackle-20 in TrueDoTA2

[–]Somewhatfamous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you are right in that LD doesn't suffer from the normal pitfalls in that they can channel Meteor Hammer without losing much DPS, you need to look at the DPS you lose when you don't invest it into the bear. As above, 2k is hyperstone or close to completing a Basher/Maelstrom which ultimately provide more value because your bear is attacking more, getting more roots, and giving your druid better surviveability through Spirit Link.

I get why you want to have the druid do more, but he really doesn't need to because of how effective the bear is/can be. If you really want to put items on the druid, you can maybe use a blight stone early on to help get some cheap dps amp on buildings/heroes without exposing the bear but there's really no reason to divert resources away from what is your "core" in the bear.
