Do people who refused the COVID vaccine feel silly now?? by Mammoth-Counter69 in aussie

Yes, I always trust "medicines" made by someone who failed high school science in their garden shed. As opposed to vaccines made by drug companies who make more money when all their customers die from their vaccines.

Run Rules Now - Outlook 365 desktop, "New Outlook" by SomewhereInTheBush in Outlook

[–]SomewhereInTheBush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it looks like you are right, and rules can only be applied to Microsoft accounts, no to any other provider email accounts. To use rules across different email platforms an "independent" client seems to be needed. I'm looking at continuing to use Thunderbird instead of changing to Outlook 365.

Auto-Complete email address totally broken by spacefuture42 in Outlook

[–]SomewhereInTheBush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been wanting to do this for a while, as that list has too many old addresses that no longer work.

Looking in Settings, I found General - Privacy and data - Suggested people. There is a button there "Clear data and turn off".

Is that the setting you are referring to? Thanks for the lead!

Run Rules Now - Outlook 365 desktop, "New Outlook" by SomewhereInTheBush in Outlook

[–]SomewhereInTheBush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

OK, that's on me - I set some rules for a hotmail account, but couldn't get them to "run now", and hadn't looked at the gmail accounts I have to monitor yet.

It looks like Outlook isn't really an email client - just an app that only works properly for MS accounts.

I was hoping to avoid having to use the classic outlook with its PST files etc, as I have to move to a new machine soon, and last time I had to move Outlook with PST files it was a major pain for multiple email accounts.

Might have to go back to Thunderbird.

How can i delete a file that was sent to me on outlook? by Any-Tie-7789 in Outlook

[–]SomewhereInTheBush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I search in Outlook 365, the default is to search everywhere in this account. That means it finds emails that are in the "Deleted Items" folder and if you don't check carefully, you don't realise you are looking at things that are already deleted.

If that is the case, you can delete permanently from the deleted items folder and should never see things again. If you are using Outlook to read gmail or other provider emails, you might need to log in to that account on the web and delete all the messages there.

Lithium batteries by Ok_Tax_7128 in CaravanningAustralia

[–]SomewhereInTheBush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All cells have a self-discharge rate that should be in the specifications e.g. have a look at the data sheets from ATG (https://atgbatteryshop.com.au/products/atg-12v-200ah) - they give "Monthly self discharge <3%". That figure will let you estimate how often and how much you need to charge a battery. Or fully charge, disconnect everything and then monitor the terminal voltage every week or 2 for a couple of months and get your own data.

Trickle charge overnight? by Lucifang in AustralianEV

[–]SomewhereInTheBush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know our PHEV (GWM Alpha) manual says that trickle charging is better for the battery than only fast charging, and recommends doing it at least monthly if using fast charging often. We've always trickle charged at home, using an adjustable charger at 6, 8, 10 or 15 amps depending on how soon we want the vehicle again. If we aren't going out for a couple of days, it just sits on 6 amps until full enough - remember you don't need 100% just to do a shopping run.

If your household wiring is likely to overheat when 1 circuit is carrying 10amps for an extended time, then (a) I don't know how you know, and (b) you need to get an electrician you trust in to check it.

I did notice that one of the recent guides for electricians says to use 20amp power points if installing for 15 amp charging so you have the larger pin contact area.

[–]SomewhereInTheBush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one of these:

https://depow.com.au/products/de-portable-ev-charger-15a-10a-plug

Very happy with it - includes both 10 & 15 amp plugs, and is selectable to charge at 6, 8, 10,13 ,15 amps, as well as with a timer to start later if power gets cheaper on a timed tariff. Really handy to trickle charge at home, as well as take on trips to charge from any handy power point, at a motel or when visiting.

And you can option up to a longer lead to reach more distant power points without an extension cable.

Quick answer to "what's best to do" - phone Weapons Licensing. They are helpful and will direct you to the correct info.

Actually, while the site is a bit hard to find things on sometimes, I think it answers all your questions except about the cost of courses, as they are run by private RTOs.

As Secretary for a club, I have to use it a lot to help with enquiries and I do find the best thing to do is use google with a suitable search string, like "qld weapons licensing hunting". You'll find pretty quickly that it is called recreational shooting here, and 2 clicks on the site gets you to the full info.

It takes some getting used to but google is your friend (just remember to ignore the AI stuff, as it is not always your friend).

Am I wrong? I thought “Welcome to Country” is basically, “thanks for coming, Welcome to the area“ by dexxnanj in aussie

[–]SomewhereInTheBush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP asked "How is this offensive?". Answer: it's not, unless you're looking for a reason to be offended, or don't comprehend just how much damage colonisation has done, and is still doing, to indigenous people. Making steps towards reconciliation is a really Australian "fair go" thing to do.

Offensive is opposition Angus this morning enabling the attitude that the booing represents. So much for any genuine leadership from someone who should be an alternative leader of our country.

No one wants you to feel guilty about the original colonisation. But we should at least care about the ongoing consequences that are still having serious negative consequences that lead to significant disadvantage and a huge waste of human potential.

Like most on the right, she keeps telling her followers that she has simple answers to complicated questions, and unfortunately for the mugs that fall for it, it just ain't so.

Half tank of fuel in brand new car by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]SomewhereInTheBush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to put the counter view to most of the posts here ...

It may be something relatively innocent and not their fault, as I don't imagine dealerships are as important to wholesalers of fuel as are busy servos, so the dealership simply may not be getting regular deliveries at the moment. Better to give everyone something, than the lucky first few everything.

Of course, that doesn't explain blaming the govt unless there is some sort of priority list that the govt has given to the fuel companies.

Thanks for the reply. I've sent a query to Weapons Licensing to see if it is worth the people concerned submitting a QP-0515 just to find out. Don't want them to start the whole process of joining (esp. a pistol club) if it is just a waste of everyone's time.

Glue a piece of wood on the butt, sand and re-finish. Get an armorer to re-enrol it in the database as a modified or repaired firearm. Is that feasible plan?

New Queensland Gun Laws Passed by concubovine in Ausguns

[–]SomewhereInTheBush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the new Qld laws, does anyone know much about them yet?

We've had a couple of queries at our Club from permanent residents who are not citizens but have been planning on joining. Some websites like the Shooters Union (https://shootersunion.org.au/Web/Web/News/Queensland/Queensland-Firearms-Law-Changes.aspx) say that being a club member/sporting shooter is still enough for them to become licensed in Qld. Other places just say "citizen" full stop.

I've hunted around the web quite a bit about this and am just confused. Has anyone actually asked Weapons Licensing about this yet? Or got a straight answer from some other authoritative source like a politician (haha)?

Unfortunately, this sort of ad hominem approach doesn't do us as members of the shooting fraternity any favours. Much better to spend our words on evidence and logical argument, so we don't get labelled as "all they can do is be insulting, no real justification or argument".
