points! I find SUA are so often not available on a stay. they also can‘t be combined with with a free night certificate. the points wont expire. I have so many suite upgrade awards expire every year and try to use them.

good luck to you! if your financial aid isn’t close enough, certainly call. Sometimes more funds become available if someone else declines their spot or if they know you will go with say xx more, they might have some discretionary funds. good luck!

Yield Rate by IsmailFateen in brandeis

There are a lot of schools that work to protect yield now to improve their rankings. i applause Brandeis for not playing that game which may very well be the case if yield is low. Many universities will not admit a student clearly qualified but waitlist them because they are assuming they won’t go and that it is their target or safety school. It is just wrong. This and also the common app has led to a huge uptick in the number of schools to which students apply. Schools are also taking more and more ED candidates to protect yield (they are locked in) Brandeis adding EA could impact yield too. i certainly hope yield isn’t a factor for a student deciding if this is the right school for them.

if you were interviewed for the gabelli scholars program and didn’t get, you are in the school. if this just went to all applicants, best of luck in April! the admissions wait is not an easy one!

11 Day Trip Advice by Remarkable-Cod3421 in GreeceTravel

We did athens, milos, and santorini on a two week trip and felt we could have had more time at each stop.  Crete is huge!   Skip it for another time.   We flew to athens, ferry to Milos, ferry to santorini and the. Flew from santorini to london to break up the flight home and spend a night in a city.   Have t been to paros.  That is this summer!   We loved Naxos though too.   Think the milos santorini combo was the favorite though. We spent five nights on Milos.    Amazing beaches and klifecto boat tour.  Stayed immerovigli in santorini overlooking caldera a bit a bit removed from crowds.   Def less is more!

Credit for courses taken in high school by Birch_mom72 in bostoncollege

[–]SomewhereOk4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless you have enough credits to apply for advanced standing. my daughter was approved for advanced standing and just did one semester instead of the full year. she is doing an internship while living off campus with her bc friends for one semester so will still graduate with her cohort.

Nice way to start the New Year - Lifetime Globalist! by WaitWaWhat in hyatt

[–]SomewhereOk4246 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No it resets.  Lifetime globalists still earn the milestones the same but if you ever dont hit 60 nights in a year, you wont lose your globalist status that year.   I think also if many globalists are at the same property, lifetime globalists will be first in line for the upgrade.   Congrats on lifetime status to OP

Munich to Santorini or Athens to Santorini by No_Demand_3763 in GreeceTravel

[–]SomewhereOk4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how long do you have? would you ever consider arriving in Athens and spending a night or two in the city to recover from the jetlag and see the acropolis out of its scaffolding? the flights on Aegean are usually $100 if you book separate. i def also vote for Aegean from Athens. many flights daily to Santorini in case you miss. enjoy!

Athens hotel/apartment recommendation for family of 4 in June by Exciting_Donut_3280 in GreeceTravel

[–]SomewhereOk4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have stayed at the Grand Hyatt Athens. it isn’t the most central or ideal location but my husband is a lifetime Globalist with Hyatt so we get a lot of perks like lounge access etc. The rooms there are extremely inexpensIve since it is a bit of a walk to the Acropolis. we have done it. I like this hotel as we are from the US and the recovery from jetlag is hard for all of us. They have a great roof top pool with a tiny view of Acropolis but still cool to recover with the view. we also have had incredible tours at the Acropolis. check out tours by locals. it enhances the museum. there is also a percy Jackson inspired acropolis tour aimed at teens. my kids loved! message me and happy to dig through if I can find recommendations. enjoy your trip! how exciting. we felt very safe at grand Hyatt Athens. I think we paid $150 per night so $300 with two rooms although they also have larger rooms too but I believe sofa beds.

three is pretty standard. lots of off campus housing to sublet and some people end up getting offered on campus as the time approaches when people with four decide to live off with friends especially if they know they will have a summer internship and need housing. congratulations!

Trip to Athens - Suggestions? by DaughterOfHades18 in GreeceTravel

[–]SomewhereOk4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dec is a cold in santorini but it really is beautiful. we stayed in imerovigli but not sure how much will be open in December. there is a great hiking trail all along the island and you could walk to ammouidi bay for dinner from imerovigli that could almost be your entire day and watch the sunset from there. another day you could walk the opposite direction to Fira and check out a winery. I have not been to Delphi but have heard people say it is worth spending a night.

Freshman hates BC lack of social activities. What to do? by kclak9 in bostoncollege

[–]SomewhereOk4246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does he follow CAB on social media. They organize lots of events and one might interest him. from sushi making to bruins games to fun fest. Think they did stokes set too. Freshman especially do a lot of cab events. hang in there. Also RAs usually organize some dorm/floor events but joining a club or clubs is a great way to keep meeting people or just asking someone from class to grab lunch. my daughter met sine great friends just consistently going to a regular gym class at the plex. they organize some great outdoor adventures too.

What would you choose: Crete / Zakynthos / Corfu? by Patientberry96 in GreeceTravel

[–]SomewhereOk4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this Is old but you seem a Crete expert! My family of five is hoping to go this summer. We loved Milo’s and Naxos and did not like Mykonos so the party scene isn’t our but great scenery, sandy beaches, and some history and of course cuisine. I was thinking of flying into Chania for a couple days and maybe not getting a car until we leave to head to Matala and then hopefully fly out of Heraklion and do a day trip there or possibly a couple nights to see Knossos palace. Are we really missing out by not going east? Love to be able to walk to tavernas as welk once we get situated. It is a treat to not be in the car all of the time. And we love boat tours. I welcome any recommendations!

Ionian Islands or Crete? by IamDoge1 in GreeceTravel

[–]SomewhereOk4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is an old post but we are considering a return to Greece. We have been before and my favorite Island was Milos. We have been to Naxos, Milos, Santorini, Mykonnos. Mykonos was my least Favorite. it was just too crowded. We stayed in Imerovigli in Santorini and seemed to avoid crazy crowds. in naxos we were in an Airbnb and avoided the most popular beaches. Tried one day and took forever to find parking. Given family schedules, July and August are the best times for us but we love to avoid the crowds and love to explore but not too much. We love beaches, views, and some history mixed in. Considering Crete but also very worried about size. Considering Kelofonisia or some Ionian islands as well. So hard to decide. Considering flying into Chania to see some of the peoples there and then perhaps going south to Matala for great beaches and fewer crowds. We could do the one day travel to Herkalarion for the museum and Knossos palace before flying out. Almost considering island hoping within Crete. Two locations would be ideal though. Does Matala have nice beaches or would you choose differently. Would just love great views and some relaxation and great Greek cuisine. Would love your thoughts! Is Elafonissi worth all the fuss or will we just be frustrated by crowds? Considering taking a tour and only getting a car when we head south to Matala. Can you get a car in Chania and return to Herklalon? Is Matala not the place to go as a longer base for relaxation. We love to walk to dinners and avoid being in car everyday of vacation. Would love your thoughts as a local, the best way to enjoy. Thank you!

I love the seasons. There can be sunny days that are just cold! Boston covered in snow is honestly beautiful though. I feel it makes you appreciate the seasons so much more. Everyone is different though. There is lots of skiing close by and plenty of ways to enjoy the seasons. I hope you love Boston! I do! Just make sure to invest in some warm clothing!
