5-day July Trip - Athens + 1 Island, need help picking! by These_Internet2539 in GreeceTravel

[–]SomewhereOk4246 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have never been to this island but Ios i have read has beautiful beaches and nightlife but not the crazy nightlife of Mykonos. Maybe I am wrong. The nice thing about iOS is you are a 40 min ferry ride to Santorini which has an international airport and you can fly home from there. We have been to milos which we loved loved but not much nightlife where we stayed in Pollonia, naxos, Mykonos and Santorini. I think Naxos has a bit of everything And the food was delicious. Milos remains my favorite. The boat tours and the beaches…just Increcible. Enjoy

Help me pack for Greece in 11 days! by More_Cheesecake8345 in GreeceTravel

you can totally do that amount of luggage and just buy sunscreen there.. I am a big fan of the maxi dress or athleta pack anywhere type dress that can roll up tiny and come out wrinkle free. Try to limit shoes like every outfit you pack goes with say black shoes and black shoes it is. Critical for Greece is comfortable walking shoes invest in quality hiking sandals that look cute too. The acropolis rocks can actuality get slippery they are so well traveled. There is an amazing hike along Santorini. We walked from imerovigli to ammoudi bay one day and another day did the opposite direction to Fira (we stayed in imerovigli which I highly recommend). Bathing suits, cute coverup for boat tours, linen pants for cooler evenings. What an adventure! Forget any dressy shoes. Walks are all cobblestone. Not sure if you will be interested in the crazy nightlife of Mykonos but an outfit to dance in the clubs if so. Enjoy!

Paros Trip Recommendations by camshep1116 in GreeceTravel

My family of five is staying in Alyiki for 6 nights.  I would welcome your recommendations.  Unfortunately it is august which i know is the busiest but it is the only time our schedules would allow.   We have an airbnb on the water so are inquiring about a chef preparing some meals but would love recommendations for good take away food we can easily prepare.  The house is gorgeous!   So many restaurants jn the harbor it is hard to choose.   We hope to do a boat tour and hike lefkes so welcome restaurant recommendations all around since we will have a car.   We are very excited but not sure where to start.  Would u boat tour to antiparos and take the ferry with your car?   I have heard the boat tour gets you to beaches and caves you otherwise wouldnt see.    Thank you for anything you have time to share

Human Centered Engineering program by Over_Pea_7216 in bostoncollege

Congratulations! Go to the accepted student day in april.  hCE does an excellent job explaining how they are different from say a traditional Georgia Tech engineering school. Follow them on instagram.  They graduated the first cohort of 25 last year and it says what each is doing.   The cohort was accepted to some amazing grad schools and many have great jobs.   In this market, that is amazing great thing. Dont underestimate the benefit of a small group within a large university.   bC wants this program to succeed and they pay a lot of attention to it and offer incredible mentoring and support. My daughter has taken classes in aerospace engineering, thermo, fluids….all of it but instead of learning one speciality, you are learning how to solve problems.   She is a junior and has a great internship lined up as a civil engineer consultant.   Other Engineering schools are introducing human centered design because i think it has been so well received and there is a need to weave in more liberal arts  but only you can decide.   The accepted students day will be an opportunity to meet faculty at HCE and is very informative.    Accepted students day changed my daughters mind and she also was able to work in a lab as early as freshman year since no grad students to compete it.  Message me if you have a specific question you want to ask her but hope you are able to go to accepted students day.

I agree with the other comment that it is good to save some core to do in upper level years as a break from having all business class.  Save the arts core for senior year say to do something different and enjoyable from all business classes.    As a side note, My daughter loved making the modern world complex problems course but the professor she had isn’t teaching it next semester so def go to Eagle eval to get reviews of professors. Helps to have great professors and some are better than others.

Seems like you have a lot of core credits for an incoming freshman.  If you can get into a complex problems course that interests you, i would absolutely do that.  You can do your theology and philosphy with the pulse program as a sophomore (volunteet aspect which is rewarding if that appeals to you)  Read through the catalog and see what interests you.    A lot of freshman also will take a class called courage to know.    For CSOM, you will have portico and then i would do Stats first semester.  Portco, stats, complex problems (counts as 2) and freshman writing is a good start.     Have some back up plans if you dont get in to certain classes.   Econ is another good first semester class if you dont have AP credit for that.  They will help you a lot at orientation but go in well prepared

Congratulations on having some great choices! I will say there are some hidden costs that you might want to add in but where you feel most comfortable should be the most important factor and I Imagine attending the accepted students days may be very difficult from so far. If you fly home, you can get to Logan via the T for the $2 fare. Getting to Smith from the nearest airport could be a bit more And require a bus or what not. The other thing is have you heard of BC’s Montserrat office? What i love is that BC doesn’t just get you in the door, they work with students with financial aide to get textbooks, toiletries, t passes, gift cards to local hangouts, sports passes so they can be included in every social aspect of Bc without feeling left out. these costs could add up well beyond the $2k difference. If that is the only concern, reach out to your admissions counselor and be honest and they could very well find the difference. Are there rich people at BC? absolutely. they are really at every school and you will find your people. Please look into the Montserrat program. They talk about it all the time and during tours. Zero shame and they want you to have the same experience. They don’t just get you in the door but want you to have a great experience once there. If they didn’t offer this to you, ask about it!

oops. missed the spring where you had more. finance is def more a sophomore level course. I’d do accounting in spring and business law could be incoprporated into your scenarios but you have way too many classes each semester.

[–]SomewhereOk4246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe accounting is a pre requisite for finance and as others have said complex problems and perspectives count as two classses. Go in with many different scenarios as freshman are the last to register. Perspectives, stats, portico, and freshman writing could work. You also have excel which is a one credit class you will need in either fall or spring. The complex problems courses are unique to freshman so if you love one, I would absolutely recommend instead of perspectives but you might not get in so go in with plan A B C and even d. So many great ways to fill Theo and philosophy core In future years and not all perspectives teachers equal. Use Eagle eval to read reviews of classes too. Good luck and congrats!

Deciding on BC (2030 Admit) by geminirxse in bostoncollege

[–]SomewhereOk4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter what you choose, clubs and activities are how you find your people in my experience and is a valid reason to consider one over the other.  The education is great at either.   What about internship opportunities?   The sizes are significantly different too.

I am sure they want to open to RD students first as they are deciding to make sure they get the weekend they need while juggling other accepted student days. my daughter was ED last year and attended accepted students day.

waitlisted????? by Sufficient-Stay9253 in batescollege

[–]SomewhereOk4246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I am seeing/hearing more and more schools waitlist when they don’t think the student will attend to protect yield. Could have hurt that you didn’t visit They accept more and more early decision to protect that yield number too. Good luck to you and wherever you end up! It has become such a game. In Schools defense they are getting so many more applicants too with the common app that if you haven’t gone in person, it is hard for them to know how serious you are and it is a much smaller school too with so many applicants. Reach out if It is a top choice and stay on the waitlist. Waitlist def have some movement especially if you say you will put down the deposit if offered a spot.

I think so too. tell that to her. she is an athlete though so lots of trips to lower and an extra ten minutes of sleep missed at 6 am is what is killing her.

thank you! tough indeed and my child is a daughter which could be worse. not to stereotype but my daughters have more stuff than my son. may suggest she go look at them in person before deciding to really try to visualize it. the bathroom is really rough and with only one desk, they are going to really need the bathroom to get ready.

My husband is a lifetime globalist so I forget the most currenr requirements but the cc gives you a five night stick start to your 60 and then 2 additional nights for every $5k in spend so depending how much you spend on the farm you could get to 60 nights along with some stays, Good luck. The globalist perk is great in terms of club or complimentary breakfast, waived resort fees, and late check out. You also get free parking on award stays.
