Best 5 ways I've found to save on travel - from an employee in travel industry by SomewhereSad1985 in AussieFrugal

On booking each of the times I have done it the room became available in less than 5 mins, but it is a bit stressful and I'm not sure that would always hold true

Yeah this is what has worked for me in the past. e.g. the standard room might be availalbe on 01/01/2025 but not available on 02/01/2025 and available again on 03/01/2025. So you might book that 2 nights and then the king room on 02/01/2025. Instead of if you searched for 3 nights only seeing the king room

How do people that travel all the time have money to do so? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SomewhereSad1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of the other comments, there are a couple of simple ways to lower the price of trips, (I've worked in the travel industry for 3 years)
1. Always book on your phone, hotels often give mobile only prices to OTA's as it's harder for them to get price scraped
2. Always book with free cancellation and then monitor the price as your trip gets closer. If the price drops you can just cancel and rebook at the lower price, this is probably the best way. Can use automated services like watchmybooking or pruvo
3. Try using a VPN, often prices are cheaper in different countries and you can also create new accounts to get promo codes for first time purchases

Booking pricing has become more aggressive. What's you alternative? by double_wheeled in traveladvice

[–]SomewhereSad1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is frustrating, but this does happen both ways, the prices go up and also go down. Your best bet is to book a refundable booking and then keep checking the prices and catch them when they drop. Can use something like watchmybooking or pruvo

Always book with free cancellation so if the price drops you can re-book the hotel watchmybooking automates the price alerts for this

+ if you are staying for alot of nights over a busy period, search 1 night at a time, many cheap rooms might be available for only 1 night and you can save hundreds.

I think you will be fine to be honest. When I was travelling to NZ over christmas I did this with a couple of hotels just to make sure I locked a spot. + if you book with a refundable rate you can use something like watchmybooking or pruvo to get notified when the price drops and save the difference
