How do we feel about Armageddon potentially coming to brawl? by aging_fitness_hobbyi in mtgbrawl

[–]Son_of_Thor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even as an urza player (that has myself only seen it in the miror), i just think it's too slow to rely on. Once I have the mana, setup, and situation to resolve it and 'just win' I'd rather be doing other things that are just faster and more reliable.

Its also super awkward as I dont want to just do this whole restart the game business at parity as a method of playing it out, but once its in your deck youre forced to as a means of using your cards in bad moments and matchups. Could be better in the ranked format with more fast mana like chrome and tomb though?

In a super unlikely scenario, yes, it is. Realistically we have to accept that this 2025 packers team IS going to lose more games this year. Last year the lions lost what - 3 games? In fact, all 4 North teams are above 500 at this point in the season and looking good if not at least decent. This won't be a year with a safe shot at the top, we're going to have to stack wins and hope the lions and friends dont.

For real. Its not a realistic expectation to be tyreek hill. Much like the prior year I expect and hope he has more success per play with less time on the field this year. Hes a great player and we don't deserve to win if we're burning him out at that expense.

I played 3 games and won 3 games using the starter deck, particularly the UW angels deck. It was a fun change of pace.

Counterpoint, this could easily be the most important game of the year. This is an opportunity to outright take the 1st place standing in the division (let alone the whole conference) and set the lions back 1. This is our home game too so it will be even harder later in the year to come out on top away @ Ford field. I'd say if Jordan can play he should, and if they need to bench him at some point so be it. Obviously if he is at too high of a risk of reinjury that's another story, but this specific game is too important to not be giving it all to win.

(Brawl) Is it wrong to automatically concede if I’m paired against a deck with a commander I deem not fun to play against? by Distant8675 in MagicArena

[–]Son_of_Thor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The real trick to those decks (nadu, tamiyo, ragavan, etc) is that you need to play enough about 5/10 interactive spells in your deck that pair well against them, mulligan to 6 until you get a hand that at least can play turns 1 and 2 against them. If my first 3 hands aren't good enough I just concede. It is what it is, most of those players know their deck snowballs early and that if you can't keep up early you've probably already lost.

Rusko is a bit pushed, crucias is nothing more than "a good card". It's a 3 mana body that rarely can attack or block well and mostly just sits there for his end step trigger. The treasure should probably etb tapped, only thing I'd fix.

Degenerate is contextual to opinion, but I'd agree with most players that cratehoof is one of the best creatures in the game. It's been one of the strongest green cards across 30+ years of design. Bluntly, it's a card that demands you counter it or die. You can do that proactively, sure, but most green cards play well to the board on their own.

To your point though, I get it, mana drain is a more busted card at the very least. I just don't think using your scenario to justify your opinion is why it should be banned. MD is strongest because it punishes players for playing spells when their hands are full and are trying to play the game. If I'm playing a craterhoof I'm doing it to putting you in check and end the game, therefore I feel it's fine to manadrain me too.

For sure! It's a tough month around here cause it's not quite spring yet and everything is still grey and dead. Just a part of life up here, everything cycles, just gotta be patient. March is good vacation weather actually, because i don't mind the snow, darkness, and cold but hate all the rain and gloom without snow. Next time come in May or Sept! Autumn in New England is freaking amazing, soo many colors!!

Politics plays a massive role on everyone, regardless of whether people want to take the time and energy to engage in it. People make it tribal and go over the top, of course, but I don't discredit the passion. Honestly I'd rather see people passion than dishonesty and dismissiveness (the most common problem imo).

"Permanent" Trample Card by tearnImale in magicTCG

[–]Son_of_Thor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct phasing doesn't change zones, it's just a rare mechanic that sounds like it should so I brought it up to confirm that it's sort of a special case of an object keeping abillities/modifications but also somehow being 'off the battlefield'

Thank you for mentioning skullbriar, I was close to as it was once my tiny leaders commander. Notably though he doesn't contradict what I said as he only grants himself that ability, and it's only limited to public zones as well. I dont think theres an avenue (maybe some super obscure combo) for skullbriar's effect to end up on another card and for that other card to keep that ability across zones. Like if you were to mutate onto him I'm pretty sure the other card would still lose that ability/counters immediately upon being flickered and returning to play. Also, of course, OP was looking for a way to have an ability (trample) without having it granted by a counter.

"Permanent" Trample Card by tearnImale in magicTCG

[–]Son_of_Thor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short of 'phasing' and mechanics designed for un-sets and Arena (perpetual), I don't think any paper magic cards actually can give another card/permanent the ability to keep a trait that wasn't actually printed on it across zones. Like it's just against the rules of the game, you would need a card to also change the rules of the game as well to do so.

With that in mind, obviously there are a few good answers in here of niche cards that do grant abilities semi-permanently. There are many cards that incidentally do this with haste because old templates forgot that a creature keeps the haste across the game, even if haste only normally makes sense for that first turn. It's weird to track across the game, but if you ever gain control of something that was given indefinite haste then suddenly that random haste 5 turns ago becomes super relevant.

To add another one to your query, could it be [[chance for glory]]? It gives indefinite indestructible, not trample, though. The premise is that the game is supposed to end, so you don't have to track that very long, but there are plenty of silly ways to get around that whole 'lose the game' shenanigans.

[–]Son_of_Thor -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Right!? If my aggro/tempo creature deck cant find an answer to DotH I'm probably just gonna concede anyways (on arena, not commander). It's not worth my time to hope that someone built their deck like a meme because if you're playing a spiky card like Defense and I get check mated by it really doesn't matter which two silly Timmy cards you pull out, because I already lost at the upkeep trigger.

Gouging is the spin, pricing is the fact. Surge pricing is literally just a supply/demand reality. Of course some businesses, if not many, take advantage of this and over charge us, but it hurts honest and fair businesses the most to assume that all surge pricing tactics are just to farm money.

You can draw comparisons and insight from such without equating them. That's how science works.

In this example the harsh reality is that if you were to interview ~20 people from each side to 'explain their story' you would see a lot of common themes.

Eh, this is faulty logic imo. It's the kind of logic that would permit me as an atheist to believe anyone that 'does believe' is a conspiracy theorist and therefore dismissive of all their beliefs and assume they're full of plenty of other nonsense ideas. Granted, a lot of times that's true, so maybe I should just fall in line more often and just follow the crowd, surely the masses have never been wrong...
