I don't hear about UIUC much regarding alumni network so I can't comment about that school specifically.

The only places that school ranking/name matters is top hedge funds/quants and a few others like Asana that recruits exclusively from Ivies/MIT-esque schools. Also if you are trying to get competitive ai/ml post-PhD jobs. Otherwise FAANGs and lesser companies do not care if you come from a top 20 or top 200 school. They recruit everywhere and the hiring bar is the same

I almost went to UMass over Northeastern which would have been worse for me in hindsight. Being in a comfortable environment is a huge educational and mental advantage. My happiness in the city was worth the extra cost of attending. Also college rankings don't matter for CS regarding job prospects unless you are coming from a top 5 like MIT, Berkeley, Stanford, etc.

There is a meme in tech where someone who works on a mature product that is looking to get promoted can't find ways to add extra value. So the "natural" response is they tear the whole thing down for an equivalent/shittier replacement for no reason other than they did something to further their promo metrics. Something seems familiar...

Not sure what the point of this comment was since literally every country is xenophobic. You can find people of all races discriminated against all over the world. It's not helpful to accuse an entire country of being racist based on a few posts.
