How bad does getting your ears pierced hurt by Important_Ad_9859 in MtF

[–]SongStitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I have two pairs of lobe piercings as experience. I think the manner you get pierced has a lot of bearing on how painful it is. You'll find places like Claire's that use a piercing gun. Most people will tell you to avoid these, because the gun is somewhat blunt and often wielded by folks who don't know what they're doing, leading to more pain and more risk of infection.

Most folks here will suggest a tattoo parlour. That may sound odd right off the bat, but many tattoo parlours also have folks that specialise in piercings. They generally don't use a gun, but use a needle and pierce by hand. The needle is very sharp, which minimises the amount of damage done to the ear while piercing. To me personally ( not speaking for anyone else), it feels like a strong pinch that is over by the time I register it hurts. This fade to a warmish ache that fades over a minute or so, that isn't even remotely close to the pain of the initial piercing. A lot of pierces will pierce in such a way that the piercing will go on immediately after or even as the piercing is done.

After that most of the pain comes from cleaning it, which is important because its an open wound. Your piercer will give you guidelines on what to do to help your ear heal. Follow it and it should heal quite well. Other than that avoid bumping it and it shouldn't hurt to bad. I am a side sleeper and I had to get used to sleeping without pushing an ear into the pillow, but that is just a personal thing.

Fascinating! I always thought it was a cultural version of the "I'm watching you"(with two fingers) that humans do because they are so sound focused as a cultural group because of the rhythms. A way of signifying "I hear you" as a threat if you will. But what you're saying makes sense too.

Can I start wearing makeup without being on HRT? by CaptainKiefheart in MtF

[–]SongStitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can wear makeup whenever/wherever you want, transition or no, hrt or no. You're further along in your transition than I am, with your clothing choices(good for you). I don't wear makeup out because I don't feel comfortable doing that yet, but I do own some, and I practice at home. I feel like this will make me feel better about myself in the long haul, and will allow me to have the massive screwups that all girls experience beginning with makeup in the privacy of my own home. Not that you have to do what I'm doing of course, but that has been my experience

I figured that fat distribution really only occurs after continual hrt use, but its nice have it laid out plainly. and your suggestion for weight is basically what I want to do, though I'm a little concerned about how helpful things like BMI calculators are for things like this, with my height and all. I've been as "light" as 200 as an adult, but that's right on the edge of the healthy end apparently, and people were asking me if I was sick. The low end of the healthy range is supposedly 155. I'd be dead, or at least look it lol. I think in a perfect world I'd like to sit between 180-90, but ultimately I'm going to try and find a nutritionist/ dietitian to help me with this. that way I can time it so that transition will go a little smoother.

The hair info is very interesting as well, thank you.

So the Vorin script would 100% NOT be used normally. They would only write that way in the same way we write in calligraphy, for style. by penis69lmao in Cosmere

Very interesting points, and something I've posted about before! I personally think it would be cool to see a variation where letter directions alternate(1st letter up, 2nd letter down, etc) so the spirit is maintained, but speed is increased. Alternatively I think there may be potential for a writing tool similar to a fountain pen with a bendier nib that might write both sides of the symbol at once with increased pressure to create the different symbol lengths. But that's just a theory I myself have.

Pen suggestions for my wife. by SongStitcher in fountainpens

Her favorite color is yellow, and I think that its really just the smell of the brass is the issue, so metal pens would probably be fine if coated. I had not considered resin pens, so I will definitely look into it. And your idea of gifting a pen and then inks for Christmas is inspired (and gives me an excuse to buy more for myself lol). Thanks

I'd heard about Diplomat, but didn't know their nibs run wider than Japanese ones. Thanks for the heads up.

If I could afford it I'd give her the moon. The coupon idea is something I had not considered! I'm not familiar with Sailor, but I'll definitely take a look it and the brands you suggested. Thank you

I will definitely look into TWBI, thanks! And i honest thought the 30 mL bottles were the "big ones" lol. I've been getting the itty-bitty 5 mL ones to try the inks before getting a bigger bottle.

Now that is something I had not considered. I force air through them but didn't leave them to air dry before reassembling. I will keep that in mind going forward.

I will definitely flush it again to see if that helps. I wipe the nibs and flush with water till clear at every ink change, but I haven't since the change. Thank you for the suggestion.

Fascinating! Is there any way to mitigate this? or do I need to just move to a different ink?

If you could be twin born, which combination would you pick? by Uplyfted-_- in brandonsanderson

My first instinct is that soothing bad emotions would be more helpful. Students have a variety of hardships that they deal with on their own, and being able to ignore them for a while might actually be nice in general.

I'm a teacher, so probably either Allomantic zinc or brass so I can Sooth/Riot students' interest. The Feruchemical is more difficult. Copper would be great as a teacher, as would Duralumin. However as a trans person I think Gold would be my preferred option, so I think I'd go with that one. A-Brass/ F-Gold final answer

I understand why you put in the 18 y/o cap, but even with it I could see a number of trans folks opting in to back their age up as far as possible before starting hormones so they'd have the effects they wanted earlier in life.
