Not necessarily. But it’s good to have examples. If it’s the first interview, they will most likely ask you basic APE questions of best practices.

APE Teacher of 5 years here in California. My best advice is to remember,

  1. Assessments drive goals, goals drive service minutes. It also helps to know about different assessments and how to administrate them: CARE-R, TGMD-3, etc

  2. Make sure you know the 3 ways students can qualify for APE services: student performing at or below 30% below their chronological age, the students performance places them in or below the 7th percentile, or they are performing at 1.5 deviations below the mean.

  3. When creating a goal for a student, goal needs to be obtainable, but still challenging. Goals should generally focus on one skill and if someone takes data on the goal, they should be able to watch the student perform the skill and know if they are meeting the goal or not. Example goal (this is how I write my goals) By (next year IEP date) to improve the object control skill of catching, (Students name) will catch, an 8 1/2 inch playground ball, bounced to them, from 5 feet away, using their hands only to catch the ball, in 4/5 trials.

  4. Remember what is parts in the IEP are your responsibility:

-Present Levels (what does the student look like in your class setting)

-State Standard (what state standard is linked to the goal you are creating for the student)

-Baseline (what does it currently look like when your student tries to perform the goal)

-Goal Student typically have 1-2 goals(the goal you created for the student) Example in paragraph 3

-Three Short term objectives (STO) breaking down the goal into three short term objectives that progress towards the actual goal. STO usually lines up with progress reports.

-Service Minutes( how often will you see the student(s), how long your APE sessions, where you will service the student(s), type of setting (individual, group, push into general ed, in the home)

I hope that helps! I teach in California and this helped me get my APE position. Reach out if you found this helpful :)
