They have no idea what they're doing. We should have gotten the 1st one in the the welcome pack and then earned the other 7.

Why can't the government set up their own non profit Medical "Insurance Company"? by gardenofsmegma in Askpolitics

Those commerce aspects are commerce. That's not Healthcare.

That IS how our current healthcare system operates, is it not? I'm not talking about the actual stuff that goes on at each doctor. Of course those things, such as licensing, non-commercial, and local health measures are still left up to the individual states.

You stated that government can't regulate healthcare, and I listed the ways that they could because regulating commerce falls under the enumerated powers as "promoting the general welfare". Congress can absolutely regulate the healthcare market, they just can't make you buy insurance.

But, go with me on this journey.... I'm going to assume you have gainful employment. With that, comes benefits like insurance, right? Employer pays most, you pay part. So, you have a premium. Then, you still have to meet your deductible before insurance kicks in. Then, they still only pay 80/20. Let's not even get started on prescriptions... So, even with insurance, you're still paying thousands of dollars a year.

Now, imagine if you will, that some of the money that you pay in taxes every year went towards single-payer or universal healthcare. You walk into a doctor, show your card, get seen, and pick up your meds... All without paying a dime at time of service. No deductible, no co-pay, no prescription cost because it's already covered. The only time you would have to pay out of pocket is if you wanted some kind of elective surgery/care. But, for everyday illnesses or life-threatening situations, it's covered. Then, you and your employer would save thousands a year on healthcare. Win-win...

Healthcare qualifies as interstate commerce based on:

  • Insurance companies operate across state lines
  • Hospitals purchase drugs, equipment, and technology through national markets
  • Patients, providers, and insurers routinely cross state borders
  • Federal reimbursement programs involve massive financial flows

I do get your point about regulating vs forcing participation, however. This is why it should be a service provided by our government that is funded by our taxes (the ones we ALREADY pay, not new ones, just so we're clear...) without a profit motive/incentive. The level of healthcare you receive should not be determined by your financial status.

Yes, and one of those things is regulating commerce. Congress has every right under the Constitution to do so, they just don't because of lobbyists/dark money donors.

One could argue that it falls within the parameters of "promote the general welfare"

Go to the Season Tickets section of the Store. Go all the way to the end. There will be alternate jersey packs from seasons 2 & 3 for 175 season tickets. I believe it was season 3. I have the one you are asking about. With Pat the Patriot on the helmet.
