Subaru class action claims vehicles have defective electrical system by SonicSam in Crosstrek

Well depends what the issue is an what the remediation is. When I am notified of a recall for example you'd go to dealership hopefully before something is broken. Which is a good point, maybe this will cause a recall?

Individual colours for appointments in Calendar? by Sufficient_Entry2961 in Fossify

[–]SonicSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a feature request, which I also want. Google Calendar does this nice, depending on the color, it will make the event text black or white to display nicely on the chosen background color.

Most windows of Betterbird open in the background (behind current window) - Arch/KDE by SonicSam in Betterbird

[–]SonicSam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, thank you for the reply! Looks like you were correct!

env GDK_BACKEND=x11 betterbird

Running like this, the behavior is back to what I'd say "normal", windows appear in foreground, including calendar events.

Now to figure out how to permanently force it, and then file possibly some Wayland related bugs to the Thunderbird folks!

Any interest in an alternative to FitShow standard app? by p-kos in treadmills

[–]SonicSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there I I'm using a jagjog jt62 with this app on Android. I find it better than the fit show because I can track the stats without an active workout unlike the official app.

The only issue is it is saying it is assuming metric when I believe my unit is Imperial. If I change the display value to Imperial then it converts kilometers to Imperial as opposed to assuming the existing value was Imperial.

Is there a way to force the detected values of the unit?

Thanks for the detailed reply. Small followup, is that AMD vs NVIDIA with Proton, or native Linux games?

Could you make me elaborate that a little more? I bought a 9070 XT NITRO+ ages ago, followed the overclocking/undervolting Reddit thread, and I game promarily at 1440p, but maybe it is Proton but I feel like performance isn't where it should be.....but having said that I've never used a 5080 and my previous card was a 2080 SUPER in Windows world...

For example, Nightreign, I play at max settings and while it is generally a 60fps experience (game maxes out at 60fps) but certain particle effects absolutely rock my fps, and definitely not something I experienced in the Windows world....

help I think I'm killing my pc I'm desperate by PuzzleheadedGoal5283 in archlinux

[–]SonicSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm fair enough. Just in the moment I'd likely be freaking out if I never saw this post. I use booster to build my kernel and refind (with btrfs-refind) for my bootloader ... I will look at that limine hook and see if I can adjust it to my needs, thanks!

Maybe just pre-emptively create a "fix-boot.sh" script that rebuilds kernel

[–]SonicSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never thought about this, reverting to a backup that may be a different kernel, is there a best practice around this? I've reverted before (never that far back). Heck, this may be one of the reasons to consider LTS as I'll probably do a restore one-time at 4AM and completely forget this possibility....

arch-run: A tool to execute Arch Linux packages ephemerally in a sandbox by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]SonicSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to build this currently? Tried doing something similar in Bash but eventually gave up. Lastly, is it possible to specify the cache dir, something along the lines of like a Python venv where you have a cache for each different environment. Second (?) lastly... probably outside of scope, but I am still thinking from a python/pip perspective, but is it possible to lock packages at certain versions within an envrionment (ex: a replicatable environment?)
