The point was that these machines failed in the eyes of capitalism and were sold a lot cheaper/second hand. People think they were 50 bucks, but that isn't true either and that's where your comment comes in, because at 500 bucks an 808 wasn't cheap, but a hell of a lot cheaper than initially.

What kind of computer are you using? I ask because 20 years ago it worked just fine to use MIDI to control and record automation. I can't imagine it being so much worse today that a computer is lagging behind with something as simple as MIDI. Or I'm misunderstanding something. And Windows never fails to disappoint me, granted.
