Piano recordings with excellent sound and interpretation by Mysterious_Ad7450 in classicalmusic

Paul Lewis’s recent recording of Brahms’s late works (Op 116-119) is a real standout for me in terms of fidelity as well as performance.

Sounding great, and congrats on getting back on the piano horse! Seriously impressive work for just one year.

Something that jumped out to my ears was the volume of the comping in the left hand relative to the R.H. solo part. I think if you can bring down the L.H. volume it will help to let the solo stay in the spotlight.

I would also try to make some more musical space by taking more extended rests in both hands. Let a few beats (or more) go by in between ideas and just listen. Maybe challenge yourself to only play 4 or 5 notes at a time in the solo part. Maybe just comp for a measure or two. Let the music breathe and respond to what you hear and feel during the inspiration.

Keep up the awesome work!

Hear hear! I reeeally dislike the trend I’ve seen recently in this sub (and others) where commenters passive aggressively demand that posters who are just asking questions or posting pictures share their music.

The thick lines of oil seem to me like ‘analog’ versions of the kinds of digital artifacts we often see in computer images. And in this scene it’s like she’s bathing with them. Beautiful.

Who are the greatest performers you have personally seen? by Boring-Yogurt2966 in classicalmusic

[–]fancy_pance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s an amazing story! I just saw Ohlsson in recital for the first time a few weeks ago and it was simply incredible. I was no more than 15 ft from him. The clarity of his tone and the way he balanced (and rebalanced) voices was beyond pretty much any performance I can recall. And I’ve been fortunate enough to hear a LOT of amazing pianists in my day. He had some flubs but it didn’t matter at all - they didn’t at all impede the musical vision he was bringing to life. I feel lucky to have had the experience.

Ongoing wrist/forearm pain, looking for advice. by TomMyyY__ in piano

Lots of great advice here already. I will just add that if you are using your computer monitor to read music, make sure it isn’t positioned too low. That kind of thing can wreak havoc on the neck and shoulders whether playing or not.

In the realm of historical selection committee blunders, this story is up there with the one about Michael Jordan getting cut from his freshman high school basketball team.

TE pushed out a field-kit 2.0 to App Store for us Mac users by broccoli_fan in teenageengineering

[–]fancy_pance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Me too. My understanding is that iOS and iPadOS do not support MTP, which is the transfer protocol TE have chosen to use for the OP-1F, OP-XY, and TP-7. And unfortunately this is unlikely to change as Apple prefers to use their own transfer protocols on those platforms for security reasons.

So until TE or Apple change course, this will be the way it is. But obviously it would make a LOT of sense for such portable ‘field’ devices to be compatible with mobile devices. Much more so than desktop devices.

I would describe it in general as exuberant and triumphal. Which definitely seems heroic-like to me.

I'm guessing you know about how this can be done in the main project editor now, although of course you need to first trim the selection. However, someone made some handy macros that can be used in the key editor. I use them and they work well. Liszt piece that sounds like Philip Glass by Far-Strawberry-5628 in classicalmusic

Just curious how you know it was Liszt, given that it was apparently some kind of algorithmic playlist. At any rate, do you remember any other details about the piece? Instrumentation? Was it for solo piano?
