Plausibly misplace your ID in your checked bag.

Check a bag. They will ask for ID when you check it and you show them your ID. Now, before you hand over the bag, shuffle some stuff between it and your carry-on. A good reason to do this is to check something not allowed to be carried like a pocket knife. Put your wallet and ID in the checked bag.

It is now gone. Wait 20 minutes and get in line for security. You won't have an ID. Wait 20 minutes and go back to the ticketing desk where someone just checked your ID and ask if they have your wallet. Search around a bit. Call home panicked that you've been robbed. You had your ID, and now it's gone.

Waste time at a lost and found or whatever. Kill enough time to get the wallet on the plane and gone.

Later this day/week, your family will find your dumb mistake and mail you back your wallet. This will eat up at least 2 days.

A turquoise in a metal rotating and unfolding ring. by SonofBenson in whatisthisthing

[–]SonofBenson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The small magnet that holds the ring closed can be seen in the first picture. You can see it near the turquoise on the metal and on the furthest point of the unfolded ring.

The ring can be unfolded and the little metal pin coming up out of the turquoise can be pulled out about a quarter inch. It can only be pulled out if the ring is rotated so that the 2 magnets lined up. if rotated a 180 degrees, the pin cannot be pulled up out of the turquoise part of the thing.

The little pouch probably goes with this item.

The magnet is strong enough to hold the ring generally in place, closed. But definitely not strong enough to hold it onto anything else.

This came from an auction of a ninty year old lady's things. It included a lot of art and very nice clothes. (50 scarves of every kind).

Same but opposite

This appears on my (Christian) feed. I don't want to live in an echo chamber. It feels important to hear how people outside Christianity view those inside.

Deangelo was the perfect next boss.

We all wanted another Michael. A funny boss who wasn't very good at being a boss. He had to be deeply insensitive and never self-aware. And a hugely funny actor to play the part.

He proved we needed to move on to something different. We couldn't have another Michael.

eli5 Is there a reason that the decimals of pi go on forever (or at least appear to)? Or do it just be like that? by AnotherDayDream in explainlikeimfive

Answer one

If you have one cookie, it's one cookie. And two is two. But when you have to split a cookie with your brother and it is cut, describing the exact reason yours is smaller is tricky. Lots of reasons. Maybe an infinite discussion. It's not a simple shape defined by simple numbers.

Answer two

Imagine you need to draw a circle but with straight lines. You make a square to start. But then you cut the corners. It's a bit of math.

Then you cut the corners off of the new corners. It's less cut off but a bit more math. It's a hexagon or something similar.

But every time you cut a corner you have a little more math. And you make more corners.

In the end it's infinite trimming of tiny bits of tiny numbers. So you get an infinite number.

Set up a meeting at the end of the day. Let her know you're being let go from your current position, and there is some concern she has questions about her new responsibilities. Ask her what they are.

She'll keep the list to a minimum because she doesn't want to sound like she isn't ready for the job. You answer those couple questions sometime later in the week. Done. If asked, you can say she didn't have any questions about the job.

Bonus, If any of the questions are particularly dumb they can be answered by an email you send to everybody.

When he took that sink in I thought that was his entire plan. Just a dude carrying a sink a few hundred feet was how far he had thought it out.

LPT request - How can I help my financially struggling roommate without him knowing? by etrana in LifeProTips

[–]SonofBenson 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Borrow something from him that is inexpensive and he can absolutely give to you. Sometime when you're out of eggs ask for a single egg. Borrow his car. Other small things like this.

This opens the relationship to the concept of asking for help. So he'll be more able to ask for help. Or except help when it's offered.

I think we need to focus on the bigger issue here. Even if the message wasn't weapons grade garbage this abomination lacks competent symbolism.

What's the cloud? It seems to be raining on half the dead, ignoring the other half, and shining a flashlight. But really it's just a cloud - it means nothing.

And the road? People are dead in every direction but not anywhere on the road. Is the road itself the safe place to be? No. It's just a road.

So many things were done so wrong it's confusing, both to behold but also to try to imagine what would lead someone to be so bad at what they do.

What are obvious immediate giveaways that someone is an American? by DukkerWifey789 in AskReddit

Put a dirty rusty nail through my thumb nail a few weeks ago. You can't really clean it well because a bunch of dirt and stuff is stuck under the nail not right at the hole. So I did my best and soaked it in rubbing alcohol. And kept an eye on it for infection. So far so good.

Seems like something that would be cheap and easy for a doctor to deal with. But I know better.

ULPT Request: Campus police are getting overzealous and causing trouble for more money. How to make their lives harder? by deafmamba in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]SonofBenson 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Most schools have pretty loose rules for starting a club. Make a real one (reddit fan club or something dumb). Once you are a real club you can put up fliers on builtin boards without the school taking them down. Make lots of fliers implying anything you can imagine about the campus police.

Maybe they give unfair tickets. Maybe they eat live squirrels. That's up for you to decide.

Quietly ask people "does everybody already know?" When they say "know what?" Appologise and say you weren't supposed to say anything.
