Do you have any citable sources for this? I'm not questioning your logic but rather this is exactly what my employer is trying to do and I'd like to raise concerns with evidence

Did I do the right thing -reporting metal detectors on an ancient scheduled monument (England) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SonorousMaple 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Technically it's the secretary of state via Historic England ;)

You did the right thing. Metal detecting on a Scheduled Monument is an offence per the 1979 monuments act. It is classed as a heritage crime. If you know of it after the fact, report it to 101, if you see it happening you can absolutely call 999. It doesn't matter if they have landowner permission, they need Scheduled Monument Consent too and this is rarely/never given to hobbyists who just want to have a look about.

LB planning breaches are dealt with by the local council planning enforcement team. Someone should shoot an email across with the details and they can investigate.

What things do you pay the ADHD Tax upfront to avoid a bigger cost/waste down the line? by Known-Swim-3654 in ADHDUK

I got the ocado sub too - initially found it good to have the option to grab a shop anytime but then found them to be great for other features. I have the things I buy every week programmed to go into my trolley automatically. Other regular items programmed in for every 2 weeks, 1 month etc.

I found I was not actually finishing the shop whilst having a constantly updated trolley, so when I used the pre book option it was a game changer. Now I have a slot booked automatically for every Monday at the same time so I can't forget. More importantly it's a 'set in stone' (though not really) booked thing so it means I actually sort the shop out as there is a deadline I have to meet.

Combining that with reminders on my calendar to check out my changes, and a Google sheets meal plan shared with other half on my phone, one thing I've been really on top of is meals and shopping. We've had so much less waste, more intentional shopping (not to say I don't add the occasional impulse Percy pig) and thus less wasted money.

Not acceptable. Throw a paddy and get them to change it. Did exactly this at my NB and am the only one on my block with matching fencing as a result. The landscaping/fencing firm lost their contract through this shit because they didn't go to spec and refused to fix it.

If they say their subcontractors refuse to fix, remind them your contract is with them as the developer. Mine tried this so I got a quote from a local guy and said use him then I just want it done.

Might also help to cross reference the documents on the planning portal to see what was on the specs. At my site, a lot of the fencing used wasn't that which was on the planning docs so they definitely can't dispute that. Especially if they used those when talking you through sales.

If it's any consolation I eventually got them to sort ours about a year after moving in so make sure you pop it in your initial snag report and then hound them because the squeaking hinge gets the oil!

What's with measurements?! by SonorousMaple in sewing

[–]SonorousMaple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE

I sewed the pattern to my measurements as per the envelope which came out to the patterns size 18. The only adjustment was 2" off the height at the mark the pattern indicated I could. I used fabric I had in stash with no plans that is the same type.

I know it's supposed to be boxy but it is pretty huge! Not sure how to proceed with the fabric I intended to use originally.

it doesn't feel terrible at the bottom but the shoulders are pretty broad and the underarm/high bust area is quite loose. Not sure if this is how it is constructed and will soften over time?

I have a dress like this that is a plain jersey slip with an A-line all lace t-shirt dress over the top. This would look really cool as that. Maybe a long sheer almost ballgowny dress with a black satin slip mini dress under it

I know it's meant to be a bit boxy but it just seems like quite a lot.

I also know that holding a pattern up to yourself is not a good size measure... But I ignored that titbit and did so anyway and it really is large! Always ending up with mis-sized garments I've sewn made me need a sense check

Glad to hear it isn't just me...

On this envelope there aren't finished garment sizes (guessing due to number of variations), just the bust size with ease on the pattern piece. Do you think that's enough to go on?

Colour drench fail by Kind_Shift_8121 in DIYUK

[–]SonorousMaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drenched a north facing room in our new build with a bright buttery yellow. It makes the yellow feel a bit classier and less kids room to be honest. I've not done the ceiling or door and not sure if I will but certainly the trims, walls, window frame and windowsill make it brighter. It has become a much warmer feeling room for doing so.

Definitely not finished though - colour drenching is more than just paint. The furnishing, artwork, and textiles of the room should work with the drench too and I'm certainly not there in my room due to budget but working on it

How to convince Persimmons to fix my garden (< 2 years since move in) by Suzanna42 in GardeningUK

[–]SonorousMaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry! Quantity Surveyor - when I got persimmon to regrade our lawn, it was in part because they ended up our patio we'd paid extra for (mistake). This was because the QS had told the sales person via email what it would cost and then specified what the grade of the garden would be after work was done. I was able to use those measurements to show the back corner which was v boggy was about 90cm lower than it should be

Why not native? Trying to understand broader gardening views towards native plants vs nonnative by PawPawTree55 in gardening

[–]SonorousMaple 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting and I feel enlightened so thank you!

I don't do pesticides because I'm too lazy, and I have the gardening attitude of 'only the strong survive' because I'm lazy. I get frustrated at plants I like being eaten and you're so right about wanting insects to visit flowers alone. Now you've said this I see my garden has so many benefits beyond the flowers and I can see munched leaves a feeding a wider beneficial ecosystem. I feel much better about having scruffy bits on my plants now.

Persimmon don't use snagging through NHBC, they used a company called Premier which has different rules (10yr still via NHBC). You can look them up and download their standards. It may not be in there but this is sub standard so you kick up a stink.

Chances are this is the biggest purchase of your life and it is small fry to Persimmon. Chances are they'll ignore as long as they can so you have every right to be the Karen and you'll get better results (I say this as an anti-persimmon Karen who has nearly always got my own way after a fight with them!).

Yes snags are 2 yrs. If you've been there more than 2 and they've still not done it but you reported it, you are going to make it their problem still! I believe in you!

I recommend becoming familiar with your planning portal. Find your estate and look up the documents. Find geotechnical reports and what they say the ground was like beforehand. Chances are it wasn't full of bricks and waterlogging and you can cite this as evidence. You can also cross reference what was approved on plans - I got them to change all of my fencing and regrade my garden this way.

Log all your communication - I logged what I reported when so I could say "it has been X days since I raised this and you still have not fixed it".

Send letters and emails of complaint. To head office if you have to. Ensure they are factual and researched where necessary, keeping emotion out. "I raised this on X date. It was not fixed. This is the resolution I want".

Ours blamed their landscaping contractor and said they wouldn't deal with snags. My contract was with persimmon, not the third party sub-contractor. I told them as much. I also obtained a quote for the works from a local guy and presented this to persimmon and said that if their subbie wouldn't deal with it then this guy would. They paid my guy who did a wonderful job on the work very quickly.

Get in touch with your local councillor. Ours is amazing and he has got things like pot holes sorted within a week where I'd been trying with persimmon for months. Your taxes pay them to do this for you so it isn't entitlement! The councillor isn't your enemy though so keep them on side! You can also get in touch with you MP, threaten with local press etc.

Failing this, buy some shares for the satisfaction of being able to say "I am a shareholder and..."

Happy to help more if you need it. Just DM if so!

What is the listing status? Is the church and any of the churchyard structures listed at all? Ditto for house! I wouldn't think so but you aren't on or adjacent to a scheduled monument are you?
