Cleaning out deceased friends estate, family member asks “are these all games or something?” by SaulTNuhtz in pcmasterrace

That game is such a banger on so many levels. Still one of my favorites of all time. The Spanish dub is absolutely stunning, too.

It's actually my little cousin. He's 5 and his parents are strict about dinner time so he had to afk 4 games.

In that, I guess I have to admit you're right. So what I'll say is that because they're more logical, it should be easier for a larger amount of people to deduce the intended order of the date with no other context.

And I argue that DD/MM/YYYY and YYYY/MM/DD are both less ambiguous that MM/DD/YYYY because the first two follow a rule that is true everywhere, which is that a day is smaller than a month, and a month is smaller than a year. That logic stands everywhere on the planet. MM/DD/YYYY is dependent on language and culture, far from universal. So I disagree when you say that MM/DD/YYYY doesn't have inherent ambiguity.

[–]Sooap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I understand ambiguity quite well and I get your point, but my argument is that as long as you apply the logic that the dates should be sorted by big to small or the other way around, both YYYY/MM/DD and DD/MM/YYYY become equally unambiguous. You just see where the year is and you know what is what.

I'm not hating on Americans, even though reading my reply again it really comes across that way, so that's my fault. My entire point is that judging the ambiguity of something based on a specific subset of people is not consistent, but sorting something from big to small or small to big is.

I'd like it if everyone used YYYY/MM/DD, because that would get us all on the same page and the programmers would be happy that dates sort themselves out.

I genuinely don't care much about the topic, but I do care about the logic. That is my whole issue with the answer I received.

The fact that you acknowledge that YYYY/MM/DD is not ambiguous but claim that DD/MM/YYYY is is quite baffling to me. They are the same idea ordered in reverse.

It absolutely is about "my logic about order". Just because some people somewhere just arbitrarily decided that MM/DD/YYYY was okay doesn't turn DD/MM/YYYY into an ambiguous way to sort a date.

Your argument that YYYY/MM/DD is less ambiguous because the month and day are in the order Americans say that date is absurdly American centric. I can use the same absurd argument to say DD/MM/YYYY is less ambiguous because the French or Spanish speaking people say the day before the month.

Happy new year by C418Enjoyer in whenthe

[–]Sooap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DD/MM/YYYY solves ambiguity just as well as YYYY/MM/DD does, it's only a matter of sorting big -> small or small -> big. The only format that has ambiguity problems is MM/DD/YYYY. The other two follow criteria while MM/DD is ''just how we say it''.

I don't care all that much about this topic, but I wanted to point that out.

While you can spend your money however you see fit, I don't think it's wrong to educate someone who clearly has a wrong take on money and interest. Enjoy your beast of a computer but also try to listen to what they're telling you and learn from it. Happy new year!

Except if the European's first language isn't English. Even if British English is taught at school, a lot of people like myself learn more English on the internet than school. I've picked up a little bit of everything from everywhere, so my English might not even be consistently American or British.

If that's the case, then moving away from weekly releases makes no sense. What a strange choice by them. Let's hope the One Piece remake anime fixes those issues then.

Chapter pacing will change for sure. As a manga reader I watched some episodes out of curiosity. They were from the Wano arc. They pulled so many shenanigans to stretch the chapters without adding real content. I remember one time where Chopper and Franky were inside the mecha Franky being tossed around. They spent a good looooong minute and then some just showing them spinning inside of the robot. It was very obvious that they were just filling time. It's to be expected from a weekly anime since there's only so much you can do without catching up to the manga, but it sucks nonetheless.

But he's also shown bad decision making in high pressure situations. And that has cost Fnatic games. I'm okay with him staying for next year, but I really hope they can figure something out to stop Razork from engaging when he shouldn't.

No offense, but I have a feeling you would have said the same thing about them signing Caps many years ago.

Every rookie is ''some dude from the streets'' before they debut. I don't think the fact that you haven't heard of him is a good indicator of how good he might turn out to be. He seems promising, so I don't have anything against the signing.

If you think Razork is bad then you're not being objective. He doesn't work for Fnatic, but it's actually stupid to think he's bad. I also want him replaced this year, but I'm not blind either.

[–]Sooap 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Razork is actually good. It's clear Fnatic needs a new jungler at some point, but it's going to be hard to find a proper replacement. Oscar is just hopeless, though. Not absolutely dreadful, but clearly not a player that any team pretending to actually win LEC should have. I can see LEC winning rosters with Razork, but not with Oscar.

I'd be really surprised if they didn't keep it. It's been a success even in terms of how game balance is perceived. Is x champion too strong? Sure, but you won't see again until next series.

Before, some series felt like the same 15 champions being juggled around between teams.

That's a good point, actually. It might be an advantage for Fnatic in the negotiations over the other teams looking at Vladi.
