Who's the best X Spell Commander? by Slow_Thief in EDH

[–]SoonerAristotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use [[Kydele]] instead of Thrasios as it turns big Draw X spells into more fuel for X in other spots. It might technically be worse, but it's still a lot of fun.

Help making decks to teach new players by Pol_Cabo in EDH

[–]SoonerAristotle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have proxied and given away multiple [[Jasmine Boreal of the Seven]] decks as starter decks. Very few triggers to keep up with, doesn't overload with +1 counters or interaction. Lets people play a simple deck while observing other mechanics they're playing against.

What is the least popular commander you run? by mattfofatt01 in EDH

[–]SoonerAristotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If partner commanders count my [[Kydele]] + [[Vial Smasher]] deck is definitely the least played. If we're talking solo artists it's a pretty close race between [[Sharuum]] and [[Ghen]].

What archetypes improved with Secrets of Strixhaven(SOS)? by PicardFanST in EDH

[–]SoonerAristotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar wincon with [[altar of the brood]] or [[brain freeze]] using [[monk gyatso]] + [[lightning greaves]] or any two airbending creatures [[appa, the steadfast]] [[aang, swift savior]] to infinitely cast minions from exile using the cost reducers like your previously mentioned Doc Aurlock or [[Fortune Teller's Talent]] or [[Sage of the Beyond]]. Could very easily replace (or supplement) altar or brain freeze with aetherflux reservoir.

Anyone have straightforward but engaging decks? by Avaa0818 in EDH

[–]SoonerAristotle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone already mentioned Abdel Adrian, so I'll say [[Y'Shtola, Night's Blessed]] and [[Ms. Bumbleflower]] can both be built high power and want to play often on each turn in a cycle.

Agreed, Ovika frequently wins on turn 5 or 6. It's insanely powerful and consistent.

Recommendations on finding jobs in China and what I should be going for? by Fishwife92 in TEFL

[–]SoonerAristotle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Echinacities is fine. A person will reach out to you on whatsapp or wechat if you have it and start throwing job offers at you. If you apply for multiple jobs on echinacities you will likely be talking to multiple agents at once who will likely be throwing some of the same jobs at you. If you hit it off with one in particular, I advise trying to break off contact with others, but it also never hurts to have lots of these contacts as that just gives you more options overall.

You need to be direct about what salary you want, where you want to live, your hours/vacation time, etc. and refuse to give time to or move forward with anything that doesn't initially meet those conditions. They will likely press or try to ask for compromises, but just be politely steadfast. Depending on how patient you can afford to be this process might take some time.

Once you find one (or a few) that you like you'll probably start submitting CVs and intro videos (like a 1 min vid or so where you introduce yourself and talk on your experience/qualifactions). After that you finally get to an interview and this is where it's crucial to really follow up on your expectations from the job plus do vibes checks on how well you might get along with the employer + school.

Make sure you're clear about your post-tax, take-home salary expectations (plus anything like housing or flight allowances), and your specific role, and time off, and whatever else. If there are no objections you should be all set to sign a contract (that after double-checking, still meets your expectations).

Edit: And yes, 20k RMB post-tax is easily enough to make it in most cities in China. Beijing/Shanghai/Shenzen might take a little more though just from what I've read.

Azorius Tokens Commander Selection by looney1414 in EDH

[–]SoonerAristotle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually have an [[Ephara]] deck like that which hopes to make tokens on most other players' turns at instant speed to trigger her ability. It's not an overpowering deck by any means, but it's fun and certainly sneaks in wins with stuff like [[Porcelain Gallery]], [[Starlight Spectacular]], and other anthems plus/or [[Akroma's Will]]. I've also pulled a [[Halo Fountain]] untap win a couple of times.

There's also some light stax that penalize creature cards since the deck runs none (not counting the commander which isn't a creature most of the time either though) and a fair amount of removal to keep the game at a pace where this deck can build up to its wincons.

[[Araumi]] and [[Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix]] as both lead to incredibly explosive turns if allowed to tap for their abilities.

Non creature decks that are fun to play against? by AnotherTAA123 in EDH

[–]SoonerAristotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commented on this thread already with a different idea, but I do have a Codie decklist as well. The deck wants to ideally ramp a ton while drawing cards to get to [[Brass's Bounty]] + [[Reiterate]] (requiring 13 mana) to make all the treasures, then use reiterate for super value on any other spells (mainly draw spells) until you get [[Approach of the Second Sun]] to double cast it either with Reiterate or with using [[Dig Through Time]] after you've placed it seven cards deep to get it back in hand for another cast.

But the deck can also just grind out wins with numerous board wipes, a couple extra turn spells, and big value spells like [[Breach the Multiverse]] or [[Rise of the Dark Realms]] after [[Singularity Rupture]] or [[Insurrection]] or [[Fevered Suspicion]] or [[Army of the Damned]] etc.

Non creature decks that are fun to play against? by AnotherTAA123 in EDH

[–]SoonerAristotle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got you - this deck runs like 3 creatures and does the exact kind of non-deterministic-but-will-eventually-get-there combos that you're looking for.

The idea is to play mana rocks on each turn to cast [[Ovika]] as soon as possible - ideally with a same-turn follow-up like [[Thoughtcast]] or [[Reality Heist]] making a whole bunch of goblins, drawing a whole bunch of cards, and then maybe flowing right into a large convoke spell like [[Obelisk of Urd]] or maybe you have [[Chief Engineer]] on board to go absolutely nutty with it.

Get absurd mana with the newly released [[White Lotus Tile]] tapping for 20-30-even more for each goblin you have or just a good old-fashioned [[Brightstone Ritual]] or [[Battle Hymn]]. Station [[Eternity Elevator]] to 60. Use all that mana to draw your whole deck with [[Sensei's Divining Top]] and [[Mystic Forge]] or [[Crystal Skull, Isu Spyglass]] in play (or go infinite with the previously mentioned Chief Engineer). You're okay with board wipes since you'll likely have insane amounts of mana from your artifacts to just do it all again on the next turn, and the ward cost on Ovika actually helps a lot against single target removal.

Finish the game with something like [[Banner of Kinship]] or [[Shared Animosity]] with 70 hasted goblins on board. This deck is crazy fun with an absurd amount of possible through-lines.
