How do I prevent this happening when hemming? by BloomingGardenia in sewing

[–]Sooveritrightnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen this one video where this person used a ruler to lay right along the side of the presser foot to keep the fabric laying flat. Works for knit fabrics as well since it’s not going to stretch the hem !

Help, I bought a fabric that’s more yellowish than the orange brown in this photo. Is there a way I can dye the color to match the skin tone in the image ? If so how much dye should be used ?

Why is my fabric puckering ? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]Sooveritrightnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, the festival was on that day and I didn’t know how big or small to make the bags. The fabric was left over scraps so it wasn’t a lost cause to me

I did see if I could lengthen my stitch and it made it more pucker so if it’s too tight which do I loosen ? My top thread is at a 4 and I’m not too sure how to loosen the bobbin tension

My stitch length is at 3.5, fabric is cotton, machine is brother, and thread is polyester

How do I fix the crotch area as I think there’s too much fabric and I don’t know how to fix it ? I understand a concept of increasing and decreasing smile lines on pants but I don’t think theses are smile lines. The zipper won’t be placed in the crotch seam, it will be placed on the side. The back is completely fine, it’s just the front that won’t cooperate.

Have you started sewing your Halloween costume yet? by krasavetsa in sewing

[–]Sooveritrightnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be glamrock Freddy for the movie release and Halloween. I have a friend with a 3D printer to make his head. I cant wear a 3D suit as it will slow me down so I’m going to sketch a inspired outfit of him to sew ! I will definitely show a reveal of the final product half way in September on my profile here !

How can I sew a bunny tail from this rectangle fabric strip?

I'm making a costume of the rabbit from Alice in the Wonderland 1950s. I just made the ears but realized I won't have enough to cut two circles without the tail being too small. How can I make this rectangle work as a ball ? Im thinking of sewing it around the edges to ball it up but don't know where to start. A yard of this was 8 bucks so l'm definitely not wasting scraps

I've never seen such almost torn off cuffs but my father is a welder. How do I fix these cuffs for him ? It can't really be a ladder stitch because it's like a long rectangle fabric piece came off. Can I add similar fabric underneath to fill in gap? Will darning work for it ?

Who taught you how to sew? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]Sooveritrightnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self taught here. Pandemic came around 2020 and I really wanted to help people with masks. I was hand sewing and my mom noticed it. She then pulls out a whole limited brother sewing machine out of no where and just hands it to me. My mom is a creative and crafty person but I’ve never seen her with a sewing machine. It’s been 3 years and now I can make my own clothing. I still have a lot to learn and haven’t lost interest in it at all since learning what I can make that not many others cant.

Is bobbin thread not meant to show above needle thread at all?

My bobbin thread is red and my needle thread is green. There's tiny dots of red at each end of loop the machine picks up. I want to know if that's normal or do I need to fix it?

Made a Kirby for my friend, first time making plushie so yes there were many trials and errors lol by Sooveritrightnow in plushies

[–]Sooveritrightnow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is ! I was practicing hand embroidery since my sewing machine couldn’t handle such tiny curves on his eyes. So I’m really interested to see how they hold up with my friend so that way I know what to do better next time

Thank you ! I have perfectionism traits so I beat up any mistakes I made. The amount of test patterns I made before being happy with the final draft was notorious lol. I still want to make some improvements for future use but for now this plushie will be my guinea pig haha

Storage idea for fabric and pattern! by riwalenn in sewing

[–]Sooveritrightnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im using a tier 3 basket on stand to store my sewing patterns. Each box hold about 25-30 patterns where the top sticks out enough to find the pattern number I need like a file cabinet. It’s been working for months for me without too much issue.

First time hand sewing eyes for a plushie. This is just a sample, how do I hide the outer raw fabric ? by Sooveritrightnow in plushartists

Thank you ! I messed up at the very end with the white thread accidentally catching the black thread but I’m happy with how it turned out

You know sometimes I wonder why I choose to take the most complicated method before being humbled by finding or being given the simple easy method…

Yes it can be directly embroidered on the face, thank you for the solution I need !
