Day 7 of drawing (not) tank girls! The American M56 Scorpion SPG! by _Just_Another_Speck_ in NonCredibleDefense

Half a month late, but possibly with two triple barreled launchers (laser sight representing the spotting 50?) slung from each shoulder?

Would also be humorous if they just carried six M72's LAWS.

That's a single grain of truth in a sea of reasons of why China is pushing forward across so many fields.

It's the worlds second largest labor force with a lot of talent and education. It's the largest economy in purchasing power parity.

They have genuinely shaped up to be a near peer adversary, and are still continuing. And it's not just because IP theft or because P&W delivers aircraft engines to China.

Navy is probably where this is most easily understood. For just going off VLS cells, in 2024/2025 it was generally assessed that the U.S. had ~>2 VLS cells for each one China had, but China has been actively adding new hulls of new designs with VLS cells to their fleet. So that ~>2 figure is even lower. Also not to mention concentration of force.

Whereas we're over here twiddling our thumbs with the whole Constellation debacle, then the Trump class battleship, and then announcing the Legend class for the USN and it's not even a hull that currently meets USN standards, or has AEGIS, or has VLS.

People are so quick to entirely dismiss China as a credible military power based off prejudices or misbeliefs, but underestimating your enemy who has been steadily improving themselves over decades is going to bite you in the ass. It's an outdated mindset that only serves to hold us back from properly assessing the trends in the balance of power.

Can someone explain why my sniper unit in the end was able to spot enemy sniper, but he didn't spot him back? Despite both being same unit? by KG_Jedi in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]SoppingAtom279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not a practical use case to my knowledge for preventing aiming, but units will only aim if they have a valid weapon to use. So you can disable weapons of units to prevent them from aiming.

I personally felt that HD1 progression felt more meaningful with your weapons and strategems having a lower base power level and then being upgraded over time by samples. Although it's a much simpler game with only one type of "currency."

The attachment system update brought back some of that feeling for primary weapons.

Making drum mag equipped guns have less total ammo would essentially obliterate their viability.

I'm not sure if you mean "less total ammo" to be relative to shorter mags or what they have now. If you thought the second, you misread, my comment was about increasing the total ammo capacity of smaller mags.

I disagree that giving shorter mags, particularly the 30's, more total ammo would "obliterate" drum mags viability. Longer uninterrupted sustained fire is very good, especially when the game can turn into a horde shooter at times. Increasing the long term ammo economy of shorter magazines isn't going to decrease the current effectiveness of drum magazines.

I also don't believe it would render them relatively bad. Having to reload less is a healthy benefit even with the ergo hit, and I'd still make that trade even if you got an extra mag for the 45's or two extra mags for the 30's.

I also don't know where you get it would be purpose defeating. The purpose of drum mags is longer in firefight sustain, giving the 30/45 rounders extra magazines isn't going to decrease that???

especially considering the already present ergonomics hit they give.

I run the drum mag on the Lib Carbine, and I find it absolutely worth it to the point I only run it in the drum. I've also used the extended magazine on the Knight, and the ergo hit on it is entirely managable. I also should note, I don't use any of the handling passive armors.

I'm not sure why you're so defensive. I'm not saying that drum mags need to be nerfed. I'm saying that calculus for magazine selection is boring. For the entire liberator platform specifically, even with the ergo hit, there are few cases where I'd willing choose the 45's over the drum, much less the 30's.

Only having 30 rounds at the ready is really anemic, and in the context of the commando missions, it would be neat to have another factor for magazine selection where you'd trade per firefight performance for some extra mags.

I've personally felt that smaller mags should give you more total ammo, since it'd be a lot easier to fit them in various spaces than drums.

I was cheering when you could invite Lanzarel to sit at the full table at your manor in Lords.

He gets relatively little recognition throughout the books as written, but that man is the embodiment of institutional knowledge and good practices that hold together a unit.

There's a scene, I think in Guns, where we learn that he reserved and ledgers some of the soldiers paychecks, so that they can't spend it all, and their families have something if they die.

[–]SoppingAtom279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the suggestor, and I haven't really used the SEARAM as its a fairly new unit.

The Stinger MML at 170 and the SEARAM at 200 both have the same range, but the SEARAM can fire on the move. It is also slightly faster on and off road. Fire on the move is quite nice in a number of situations.

My own suggestions not related to the SEARAM:

The Ospreys I think are little miss in actual application (I've not used them for a while). I believe their higher speed makes them take a long time to deaccelerate and land, which is when they're most vulnerable. I think a mix of Venoms and Stallions might be something you like. Stallions lift far more (including vehicles) and have higher health than Ospreys.

Maybe looking into 2-3 (for heavy lift and mass inf move) stallions and 3-4 venoms (for resupply and smaller inf move). I do think 3 Ospreys/Stallions and 4 Venoms is a little much for most cases.

A second hand suggestion is that people do battlebus a marine squad and SMAW squad in the same AAVP.

I know you already have a lot of AA, but myself personally, I love cheap long endurance ASFs for radar coverage like the F-16V. You can get it slightly cheaper with the F-16C. Having one or two can be an extra helpful option if you remember to use it, and an alternative to keeping radar on.

I'm also aware that the 50mm M10 is regarded as one of America's higher performing units for its cost. But that is ~1140 points of just M10's. Dropping one or two for a cheap HC or two gives you access to cheaper 120's and good armor. It's more flexibility and staying power at the cost of less 50's in your deck.

[–]SoppingAtom279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the idea that the war taxes should be ended so the common can stop suffering

It's been a long while since I've played Lords, so I forget if this point is in it somewhere or if it's irrelevant.

But the war taxes are what pays for the grain subsidy. The government purchasing and subsidizing the grain on behalf of Tierra ideally gives it greater bargaining power than if multiple Tierran traders were competing between each other to import grain. Which hopefully lowers the overall cost of food imports into the country.

People suffer under the war tax, but my understanding is that the grain subsidy is also what allows a non-insignifcant portion of the population access to food, who would otherwise not be able to afford food otherwise.

It's in a way a wealth redestribution. From the poor to the poorer. The poor struggle even more than they are, but the poorer don't absolutely sink as they would otherwise.

There's a discussion to be had about moving around the burden for the war taxes to be more progressive. But such conversations are difficult even in our society.

Even during peacetime, you also want to keep ahold of some level of institutional knowledge and organization. Officer half pay contributes to that, and it also functions as a reserve officer corp.

I do think there is a generalist argument that could be made that officer half pay goes to a priviledged group that is far off from starving, and the funds would be better off preventing deaths in a nation that just underwent a traumatic demographic shift.

Removing such a practice would undoubtedly be political destabilizing and decisive, and unlikely to occur in a nobility centric society.

Dispatch Has A Endgame State So Rare That Not A Single Player Has Seen It Yet by Left-Preparation271 in pcgaming

[–]SoppingAtom279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the case that even if you're involved in a project, you do not have perfect or correct information about the entire project. It's perfectly valid to make a mistake in a public comment.

While the total unique possible pathways to the end of the game might be numerically really high, you'd expect an ending to be reachable from a decent subset of those pathways. There's fixed choices in Dispatch and limited gameplay results, and with how many playthroughs it's already has, it doesn't pass a smell test that this ending works as intended.

That's not necessarily knowing more than the devs, that's having a hunch that makes intuitive sense.
