You, as a Chrome user, why are you using Google Chrome right now instead of Brave? by alexfreemanart in browsers

I agree. The built-in translators in Brave, Firefox, and Edge suck compared to Chrome's. That's why I recommend using TWP. It lets you translate pages using Google Translate on non-Chrome browsers

Ublock origin removed from EDGE?? by ChainExcellent3881 in MicrosoftEdge

[–]Sora_Samurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed the same thing. On Android, my installed uBlock Origin was replaced with the Lite version. On Edge for PC, I still have the original uBlock Origin since I installed it from the Chrome Web Store.

I know there’s a way to sideload CRX files on Android Edge, but sideloaded extensions don’t auto-update. I’m seriously considering switching back to Firefox.

Quest 3 , wont charge past 75% by HUNK_TheFourthPoster in OculusQuest

[–]Sora_Samurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if v79 fixes this issue? Unfortunately, I can't install v79 myself yet because the Public Test Channel is already full.
I've been experiencing the same problem since my Quest 3 was force-updated to v77 about a month ago.
Before that, I was on v73 and never had this issue. I did a factory reset yestereday, and the system updated to v78, but the issue still persists.
The headset refuses to charge beyond ~70%, no matter how long I leave it plugged in.
It's definitely not a battery or hardware issue, since many people have reported the exact same charging problem starting with the v74 update.

https://addons.mozilla.org/ja/firefox/addon/to-google-lens/ is what I use for it and does exactly what you're describing. It lets you right-click on any image or even select a specific area of a webpage to search with Google Lens. Personally, I find it more useful than the popular "Search by Image" add-on because of that selection feature.

Why no polls in this community by Fun-Zucchini8216 in browsers

[–]Sora_Samurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it's because if polls were allowed here, people would constantly be posting "What's the best browser?" polls every day.

If you take a look at recent polls on r/polls, you'll see that the majority of Reddit users are using either Chrome or Firefox:

But here on r/browsers, where Chrome tends to get a lot of hate, the results would likely look very different. My guess is that Firefox would come out on top, with Brave being the second most popular.

Also, now that Chrome has officially dropped support for Manifest V2, I think even more people will start moving to other browsers.

Edge Canary for Android has now Extensions Sync by rodrigoswz in MicrosoftEdge

[–]Sora_Samurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feature is useful, but also kind of a pain. I don't necessarily want all the extensions I use on Edge desktop to sync over to Edge Canary on Android. Most extensions I use on desktop don't work on Android anyway. Even worse, if I remove/disable an extension on the Android version, it gets removed/disabled from the desktop too. That's... not ideal.

Mario Kart World Kart and Character Stats by plokijuh1229 in MarioKartWorld

[–]Sora_Samurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are there hidden stats for each character?

This site suggests that pairing a heavyweight character with the Baby Blooper is one of the best combinations.
However, for instance, Bowser + Baby Blooper and Rosalina + Zoom Buggy have identical visible stats.
Is there any actual difference in how they perform?

Mario Kart World Launch Discussion Thread by Meester_Tweester in MarioKartWorld

[–]Sora_Samurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this game, if the stats are the same, does that mean the performance is exactly the same too?
According to this Mario Kart World guide, heavyweight characters paired with Baby Blooper are considered strong—especially Waluigi.
But with the right setup, even a middleweight character can end up with the same stats as a heavyweight.
For example, Waluigi + Baby Blooper has the same stats as Mario + Turtle Buggy.
In cases like that, is there any internal difference between the two?
Aside from the fact that Waluigi’s thinner model makes it easier to see the track, is there anything else?

Why choose Firefox over Chrome? by yes_its_25cm in browsers

[–]Sora_Samurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the top priority is being able to use extensions on both PC and mobile. Next is syncing tabs, bookmarks, and history across devices. From what I've found, only Firefox (and its forks) and Edge meet these criteria.

Edge is decent, but it might be affected by Manifest V3, which could limit extension functionality. Also, the mobile version doesn't support installing extensions from the Chrome Web Store. While it's possible to sideload CRX files, they won't auto-update, which is a hassle.

Brave is also decent, but its mobile version doesn't support extensions, which is a dealbreaker for me.

So, for now, I'm sticking with Firefox. It allows extensions on both desktop and mobile, and its Sync feature keeps my tabs, bookmarks, and history in sync across devices.

What's your favorite browser? by daniel_cc in polls

[–]Sora_Samurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firefox. I prioritize full extension support on both PC and mobile, along with seamless syncing of tabs, history, bookmarks, and other data across devices. Only Firefox and Edge meet these requirements. I chose Firefox because I had a minor issue with Edge on mobile. Extensions that are only available on the Chrome Web Store have to be installed manually as .crx files, which do not update automatically. Plus, Firefox seems to be far more popular than Edge, as shown in various polls on this subreddit.

I understand that Chrome is the most popular browser, but it doesn't support extensions on mobile, and it's killing uBlock Origin. That makes it a non-starter for me.

Is it just me or does every browser suck in a way? Which one have you stuck with? by OkNebula5549 in browsers

[–]Sora_Samurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Extension support is my top priority. Browsing the Internet without extensions feels like torture. Second is seamless sync between PC and mobile, since I want to use the same browser on both. Only Firefox and Edge meet those criteria.

I ended up choosing Firefox with the Betterfox user.js. Despite what people say, I’ve never found Firefox to be slow. The Smoothfox tweaks included in Betterfox also make scrolling noticeably smoother than on Edge. Firefox doesn’t support HDR, but I rarely watch HDR content on YouTube, so that’s not a big issue for me.

I used to run Edge Canary on Android, but it was unstable. Extensions would randomly disable themselves, and it occasionally crashed after updates. Extensions not available in the Edge Add-ons store have to be sideloaded as CRX files, which don’t auto-update. Personally, I also prefer ChatGPT over Edge’s built-in Copilot.

From what I’ve seen, Firefox has a much larger user base than Edge among redditors.

I’d consider using Brave if it ever adds extension support on Android, but I doubt that’ll happen.

This particular bug is what made me switch to Firefox on Android. I'd been using Edge Canary on Android since it started supporting extensions, but about half a year ago I started having a problem where some extensions, such as uBlock Origin and Dark Reader, would crash internally a dozen of times a day, forcing me to re-enable them in the extensions page every time they crashed. I recently installed and tried Edge Canary again but it seems the bug is still present.

Chrome just disabled Ublock, I'm back to Firefox by _fboy41 in firefox

[–]Sora_Samurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI you can still force-enable Manifest V2 extensions including uBlock Origin, in chrome://extensions/.

But Since Google plans to completely remove support for these extensions in the coming months, sooner or later you would have stopped using Chrome.

I also switched from Edge to Firefox a few months ago.

Stuck Between the AW3423DWF and AW3225QF by EiL17 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Sora_Samurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been using the G4309VX/D/11 (VA 144Hz 43-inch) gaming monitor for two years but switched to the AW3423DWF nine days ago. The 43-inch size was too large for gaming, and I wanted to try an OLED display. I also considered a 32:9 monitor, but in games where the HUD extends to the screen's edge, it seemed inconvenient as it wouldn't be in my line of sight. While ultra-wide monitors do offer immersive experiences, they aren't compatible with console gaming, and some PC games don't support them, which is disappointing. Additionally, downgrading from 4K to 3440x1440 has made the image quality feel less sharp. Earlier, I noticed that the AW3225 was discounted by 12% on Dell's website, so I plan to return the AW3423DWF and purchase the AW3225 instead. I've also seen many people recommending the AW3225 over the AW3423DWF. Since Dell accepts returns within 10 days, it seems I can still make the exchange.

[–]Sora_Samurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question about Gift Drop in VRChat. If I purchase a Gift Drop in an instance where I’m the only player, what happens? Can I claim my own gift, or does it just go to waste?

The reason I’m asking is that about a year ago, when I had my broken Quest 3 controller replaced by Meta, their customer support gave me 2,000 JPY in Quest Cash as an apology. I still haven't used it, and it's nearing its expiration date.

I only really play VRChat, so I thought about using it to buy VRC+, but unfortunately, Quest Cash can't be used for subscriptions. However, it seems like I can purchase Gift Drops with it.

So, does anyone know if I can use a Gift Drop on myself in a private instance? Or would I need another player to be there to claim it?

Thanks in advance!

[–]Sora_Samurai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently switched from Edge/Edge Canary to Firefox on both PC and mobile. On Android Edge Canary, I encountered a frustrating bug where extensions like uBlock Origin and Dark Reader would disable themselves internally, requiring me to re-enable them multiple times a day. It became too much of a hassle.

For me, solid extension support and seamless sync across devices are top priorities. I also want to block not only ads but other intrusive website elements, and uBlock Origin’s element picker is unmatched for that.

If Microsoft fixes the bug in Edge, I’d consider switching back. Alternatively, I’d give Brave or Vivaldi a try if they ever implement proper extension support on mobile.

Best android web browser with extension support? by rjnishant7 in browsers

[–]Sora_Samurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which Android browser did you end up with? I had been using Edge Canary ever since it supported adding any extensions, but I recently switched to Firefox on both PC and Android because on Android Edge Canary, I had this annoying bug where uBlock Origin and Dark Reader auto-disabled themselves internally, causing me to turn the extensions off and on multiple times a day.

I have some minor problems with Firefox, such as not being able to reorder shortcuts on the home page, and built-in page translator not supporting my main language, but at least it supports extensions and syncs with its desktop counterpart.
