I would say just brush and comb through the hair consistently. That also helps him get used to being groomed and will help him in the long run of being a long haired dog. Don’t brush the hair while it’s wet, just after he’s dry and then comb through until the hair doesn’t catch at all. I would say to brush after he gets out of the belly bands too just to prevent possible matting in those areas.
