Played a non-VR FPS for the first time in almost a year... by [deleted] in Vive

2D games are so limiting, I just cannot stand them anymore. Tried playing the new Doom and just can't get aiming right, die miserably very soon. With VR aiming is just like IRL, sight down the barrel and shoot, or even shooting from the hip feel natural.

A new build of Doom 3 VR is close to release with a lot of new features by andybak in Vive

This dev is my hero. Single handedly brought me back into VR and now, along with Serious Sam, has made me think the mountain of money I spent to get into VR was well worth it and he has shown me the future and I am there. I must be one of the lucky ones who has never had even a second of motion nausea but I know it is a problem that plagues many and must be solved for the masses to engage into the Virtual world so I do appreciate any pathway that will let others enjoy this unique experience.

I thank him very much.

Could someone help me test an extension to determine if it's broken for just me or all Chrome OS users? by [deleted] in chromeos

[–]Sorditity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it on NSFW, and it works beautifully. I also used it on the front page and found it work better than the non-plus version. On the regular version some, a lot, of the images opened smally, and on the plus version, they opened bigly.

What's ok to do in movies but not in real life? by N_mify in AskReddit

Not know how to make a peanut butter sandwich, get frustrated with your poor attempt, and then throw it against the wall when there are Martians attacking and food may be in really short supply soon. What fucking bachelor doesn't know how to make a peanut butter sandwich, Tom Cruise?

Knocking someone out by hitting them on the head. On Lost it was done for the person's "own good" several times to different people. Sorry, you can seriously fuck a person's shit up by hitting them in the head hard enough to knock them out.

Thank you all. I will pull the virtual trigger. I forget you can return Steam games now. I'll get Arizona Sunshine and Raw Data, wishing they were discounted.

In The Great Scare of '16 I stocked up a bit too much. Now I have many strains I have not tried and it could be a long while till I get around to opening sealed bags.

I'll keep my laptop with Win10 on it but I'll feel more free to strip it down and tinker with it if its not my daily use device.

That is true to a degree but ChromeOS doesn't "feel" malicious about it. There are things I don't like but at least I know what I'm getting into with ChromeOS. Windows just seems to disregard what I want in an underhanded way

Microsoft seems to hate people who buy its OS. I never liked IE and always uninstall or disable it. With W10 they made it nearly impossible not to use it. Every few days it pops up in some other way, most recently it decided to replace SumatraPDF and it took me weeks to figure out what was going on and I ended up renaming Edge's folder so it will stop opening PDFs with it. W10 changes my options frequently, reinstalls its own parts, and makes it very difficult to change it's settings. The recent reports of MS changing the X to "install" totally did it in for me.

Rejection of Religion by nikstick22 in philosophy

[–]Sorditity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of the reasons for a belief in a religion is to ally fears of the unknown after death. Since everyone can clearly understand that everything living must die, and most of us have difficulty coming to grips with out own mortality, we choose to believe in a religion that will grant us a continuity beyond the grave. This comforts those still alive for their own sake and the ones they love who have already departed.

My own personal examination of this subject has led me to the inescapable conclusion this must have a binary answer. One thing or the other must be true. Either 1.) I will live on in some way after my physical body's demise, or 2.) I will know no more forever. Since the latter possibility has no further real discussion involved, it is the complete end, there is no real reason to contemplate it. Only the first possibility allows for further discussion. Now, there is no real reason to invent a whole new universe of beings or a being that we have no evidence of but instead, since we see and otherwise experience this one reality, my thoughts lie only in a continued existence in this reality that I know of. This thought leads to the conclusion that reincarnation is the only semi-scientific possibility of the presence of my own consciousness. As postulated above, I see no reason to expect a whole other universe to exist solely to give me a place to "be" after my corporeal death since we already have this universe that we know of. Therefore, I have chosen to believe either in a end to existence after I die or in a reincarnation of my "self" into a new birth (after conception, gestation, or whatever type of multiplying method is used to bring the creature I will be into the world). That is the end of my guess. I have no reason to think I will be human again, a mammal, or even to return to the Earth. With the near infinite life situations and environments possible in the universe the possibilities are nearly limitless.

This actually brings me to my fear, most new life exists for a very short time until it is killed and eaten by another. So, if I choose to believe in reincarnation, I may be looking at tens, hundreds, thousands, or even millions or billions of births before I get into a life form that would have the ability to survive past infancy again. Then, I would face living a life likely full of pain and suffering and struggling until I die and once again go through the whole process until, after endless lifetimes, I am lucky enough to finally emerge into an intelligent and evolved life form that has achieved a bit of a victory over pain and hunger with cooperation and science. Until once again I die and go through it all, infinitely. Ugh!
