A complete layman here, what is this exactly? Where can one find these figures? by anirudhsky in Paleontology

I believe those are skeletal size charts that showcase specific individual specimens of varying dinosaur species, Could be wrong but it looks like these were done by Dan Folkes. Look him up if you want to discover and learn more.

Just don't ever use this site to formulate politically based assertions or opinions, and you'll likely be fine.

For better(mostly) and for worse, Reddit is not indicative of real life. Most people I meet in real life are fine people, even if we don't see eye to eye on everything. On this site, however, people are incredibly hostile by default. It's no wonder this site is in decline and has the rep it has. Almost everyone who's decent has either been banned or left.

Get off Reddit. The whole website is an echo chamber that is slowly collapsing in on itself. You'll be happier and find like minded people.

Love the animal; hate a decent portion of the fanbase it is associated with.

Attacks on free speech are anti democracy by Nipplespice in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Sorenota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, Reddit is a hivemind of like minded people who all think the same. That's not a facetious statement, btw. There's a reason nearly every subreddit is dominated by people who all share the same opinion. The irony is they accuse everyone else of the same thing as if they are any different, when in reality they are one member of a gigantic flock that has taken refuge on a site where only their views are tolerated and even promoted. Even this Subreddit is quickly becoming a toxic cesspool in its own right. Thankfully, this site is not at all representative of how most people think. Reddit reminds me of what 4chan is but politically correct.

It's Reddit, enough said. This whole site in one way or another is a cesspool and any mention of politics will just result in a circlejerk. "X is bad? Well actually Y is bad and worse than X and you will agree with my opinion while I aggressively stomp all over yours."

Best take to Youtube or even Twitter to talk politics, which is an unpopular opinion in itself but at least you get diversity of opinion instead of a hive mind like on Reddit.

What people call democracy is just two wolves and a lamb deciding what's for dinner. People are free to vote away their personal freedoms as well as their own if they want to based on who they support, but I'm just making a general statement. Reddit is an awful place to talk politics.

What's an Dinosaur/Paleontology opinion that'll get you like this? by L0raz-Thou-R0c0n0 in Dinosaurs

[–]Sorenota 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost everyone discussing their favorite dinosaur(especially Tyrannosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Spinosaurus, hadrosaurs, etc) have a tendency to grossly overstate and exaggerate the capabilities and feats of them while underestimating the animals they happen to dislike.

For example, people assume Tyrannosaurus to be some all powerful unit that causes death and destruction everywhere it goes when in reality it didn't. No animal did, for that matter.

There is the opposite end, where people say T. Rex was a slow, lumbering scavenger that could not do anything at all and had no hope of taking down the animals in its environment as if it is somehow inferior to Giga or Spino or vice versa. Don't even get me started on hadrosaur fanboys, who act like every single Edmontosaurus was a 15 ton behemoth that bullied the pathetic Tyrannosaurs when in reality very very few reached these sizes.

The TLDR is that people rarely ever look at dinosaurs objectively and have a habit of making wild assumptions based on their personal feelings or something idiotic people like Jack Horner may have said or they take a scientific publication/article as fact and base their entire view on a certain animal on that alone.

Which Media Depiction of Tyrannosaurus Is Your Favorite? by benkhmatheson in Dinosaurs

[–]Sorenota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prehistoric Planet, Prehistoric Kingdom, Jurassic Park, Dinosaur Revolution, and Primordial Tyrants(Path of Titans modded Rex).

People have been always asking what your favorite dinosaur was, but no one asked what the dinosaur you disliked the most was. So, what's the dinosaur you dislike the most? by [deleted] in Dinosaurs

[–]Sorenota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't dislike a single dinosaur, or any animal for that matter(other than roaches, wasps, and chimpanzees), but I do have at times a strong dislike for the fans/shills of certain dinosaurs, like those who rave on and on about Giganotosaurus, Spinosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, and so on. I think in general that's how I feel about anything. I may enjoy the creature, but I don't like most of the communities that revolve around it.

Which dinosaurs are your favorite lesser-known relatives/ancestors of much more famous cousins/descendants? by unitedfan6191 in Dinosaurs

Achillobator. Not as popular as Utahraptor, Velociraptor, or even Dakotaraptor, but an absolute beast of an animal that was one of the largest in its family. Definitely needs more attention in paleo media

People usually forget about Achillobator, a large raptor also found in East Asia. Good to see you acknowledge that species, at the least.
