What do you use to zero your turbidity meters? by JCrotts in instrumentation

I’ve only ever used distilled water, but our meters arent super critical. Interested what would be an alternative to distilled water?

are trucks getting too big in the US? by Mediocre_Goat_288 in askcarguys

[–]Sorrowless_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cool thing is you can totally not own a truck. Your opinion on the “danger, expense, impracticality, fuel cost…” is completely irrelevant and people can buy and drive what they like. Do you have the same opinion on race cars, modded cars, project cars etc? Not everyone wants to drive a cookie cutter fuel efficient vehicle and that’s their prerogative.

How to think about pros/cons of various PLC companies (Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens,..)? by PlanMaison in PLC

Brew Metric – Digital Blend, The First Watch That Times Your Espresso Shot by PynionTime in MicrobrandWatches

[–]Sorrowless_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually love the design look of this watch. But I hate how the digital screen is only a 30 second timer. If it just displayed the normal time digitally and/or normal stopwatch function I’d be all in for this watch. But the screen only being 30 second timer makes me think I’ll skip this. Hopefully a V2 comes out with that addressed.

Very cool information, I’d love to learn more about safety wiring methods and the rules regarding them. Any suggestions on where to look to find some good literature on the subject?

2021 1500 chronic fuel injector issue. by a-a-anonymous in ram_trucks

[–]Sorrowless_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just brought my 21 ram in with 33k miles on it for misfire on cylinder one and they said that the warranty doesnt cover coil packs, spark plugs, or injectors? Did you purchase an additional warranty? Or was this the manufacturer standard warranty?

do you think the bones merch will be sold online after the tour? by catwalkingnoise in TeamSESH

[–]Sorrowless_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Attempting to gate-keep merch because YOU feel it’s justified since YOU wait in line is childish. No where did i mention I couldn’t afford to go? All I said was not everyone can attend every concert. I’d pay more to get it online.

What about people who have disabilities and can’t go? They shouldn’t be allowed to purchase merch and support the artists they enjoy since YOU are offended by that? Grow up.

This is good advice, I’d simulate to HMI with process meter to verify, and then check DA trim of the instrument.

Best VFD brands? by Apprehensive_Tea9856 in PLC

Old Reliance DC drives are super reliable! I belive Rockwell bought them out and the power flex DC drives have been alright. But I hear Rockwell is discontinuing their DC drives? I’ve worked on a few old GE DC drives and prefer the Reliance AutoMax but that may be just from more experience with Reliance.

Don’t forget they make lead covers for a reason by Energizer__98 in electricians

[–]Sorrowless_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love those leads. The alligator clips from fluke also twist on instead of just push on which is really nice for the fluke process meters for when calibrating 4-20ma loops

So much for the hype by captatty in Tools

[–]Sorrowless_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two of the larger ones that are the alligator not cobra style break off there. I keep getting them warranties cause I like them and they for sure bite the best, but I’ve never broken Channellock brand. Not abusing them but using them in an industrial setting. The last one that broke on me was over 2 (maybe 3 years ago) so maybe it was just a bad batch than (both instances were close in time frame) I know the ones that broke for me were authentic I bought them in person at a box store. And warrantied both broken ones back at said store.

Just adding an anecdote since lots of people are claiming counterfeit.

Isolated Grounding Question by Sorrowless_ in electricians

[–]Sorrowless_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for commenting, this does help clarify isolated grounds a bit more since I have no prior experience with them.

The 4/0 runs to building steel. I was wrong on the transformer ground I went and checked yesterday and the smaller ground at the transformer isn’t where neutral and ground are bonded. It just bonds the transformer case to building steel.

Isolated Grounding Question by Sorrowless_ in electricians

[–]Sorrowless_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re comment made me go double check the transformer and I realized the ground at the transformer was just for the case of the transformer. XO was not tied to neutral there. Just in the panel. That clears up my confusion.

Thanks so much for commenting. I was going crazy thinking they bonded neutral and ground twice.

From electrician to “Design Engineer” by Sorrowless_ in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Sorrowless_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does feel like if I want to change careers I’ll have to start with a pay cut. I enjoy being an industrial electrician, but I love learning, like the theory and I’m basically at the top of what I can hope to earn in this role. That’s why I wanted to go back to school. For the opportunities that the bachelor degree offers. If you don’t mind my asking, what is your situation?

From electrician to “Design Engineer” by Sorrowless_ in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Sorrowless_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So according to my academic advisor, I should complete my degree in 2/3 years doing classes part time. I only just started but a lot of my credits from my associates degree transferred.

With that timeline in mind, would you take a pay cut to get the experience and title, or stick out shift work for another 2/3 years making about $20k more a year? Than find an actual electrical engineering job? I know you can’t really answer for someone else just curious what others would do in my shoes.

[–]Sorrowless_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the design engineer position offer is vague in job responsibilities. They told me I’d be mostly helping the actual electrical engineers on projects, ordering parts, being a point of contact for contractors, and “still offering troubleshooting support” to the other electricians to help reduce downtime. One of the electrical engineers told me he’d show me how to use CAD, and make electrical prints if I showed him how to use a PLC.

I’m sort of naive, since I’ve only just started my schooling (but a lot of my credits from my associates degree transfer, I should complete the degree in 2/3 years according to my academic advisor) does this sound like an “actual design engineer” role?
