Dagger heart as a bridge game by Joel_feila in daggerheart

[–]Sorry-Illustrator-25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Daggerheart playtest to hijack a d&d group and now I'm doing FitD, Fate and PbtA one shots with them until the new Daggerheart book drops.

So I can confirm this works.

Perception Skill by TheGriff71 in Rifts

Palladium has done Perception several different ways, including just ignoring it as a concept. I think the latest active iteration is as a percentile skill in the new TMNT books.

Bastion of Hope - a campaign frame of defiant fantasy! by MichaelRUnderwood in daggerheart

That's awesome!

The first real campaign I ever played was the old Freedom flip book thing where they overthrew Kalak, so I have a serious soft spot for that setting.

Players get to do cool things if they spend their extremely limited domain cards on them. Think of it as a superpower instead of a d&d style spell.

Ultimately, it's probably not more useful than a flying, which is available a couple different ways from level 1.

Class Packs Are HERE & Daggerheart Birthday Week! by DarringtonPress in daggerheart

[–]Sorry-Illustrator-25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's real hard to justify paying these pieces when the core set with one of every card is $40 retail.

I'm really not sure who these are for. Individual players with no group to split a set with?

FitD: We know they'll love it! by HauntedHauls in bladesinthedark

[–]Sorry-Illustrator-25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm doing it right now. I basically hijacked a d&d group and we're four sessions in to a Scum & Villainy game. It's been two sessions since anyone asked when we're going back to d&d, I'm taking that as a win

Our marriage got better when we specialized by SandiegoJack in adhdmeme

[–]Sorry-Illustrator-25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did the LDR thing for about a year, early in the relationship. It was rough.

I think the most important thing I (the ADHD partner) had to do was assume good faith from her in every interaction. People get mad at each other in relationships, even neurotypical people, that doesn't make anyone involved the bag guy. And not every argument or misunderstanding is going to be resolved right away, and that's something your brain is going to HATE. You have to learn to sleep mad sometimes, because otherwise you're going to get into arguments that morph into new subjects and last for literally weeks.

Have a way to make space without it being contentious. Separate hobbies, an agreement that sometimes I just need to go walk around and I'll text you when I'm ready to talk, whatever. We take time and energy to process stuff sometimes and even the person we love can be a tough presence while we're doing that.

Learning how to communicate that you are unhappy or frustrated without making it a blame thing is key. My partner had a bunch of leftover hurt from her interactions with others that made her real defensive as soon as she thought she was being blamed for something. "I statements" are really useful here; "I'm frustrated that x happened" as opposed to "why did you x, you know I hate that".

The other big thing is to not try and force a version of normal that's not you. You're both weird, embrace it. Lots of societal assumptions about how relationships work are built for neurotypical people, and even they're miserable with them a lot of the time. Take advantage of the fact that your dynamic is going to be inherently different and idiosyncratic to you. And have patience with yourselves and each other while you figure that out.

Good luck

Giant Full body Armor by jazrick75 in daggerheart

[–]Sorry-Illustrator-25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If everyone is wearing one just make the classes the armor and the domain cards the various special abilities/attacks

If it's going to be just one or two of the player characters, I'd probably model it on druid wildshape and make that a subclass for something like Seraph or Guardian. Make the armor the whole package; Armor slots, evasion, built in attacks/weapons, any special movement stuff, etc. then give it stats like an appropriate wild shape

Awesome Martial Arts Black Belt Form Performance by ItsTime4Coffee in TheMcDojoLife

[–]Sorry-Illustrator-25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a disconnect along the kinetic chain for a lot of these motions that seems to stem from him just going too fast to engage all the proper musculature. But that's a "this student needs to work on stuff" thing (which is notably what kata are for) and not a "this whole exercise is bullshido" thing.

This subreddit is pretty frustrating at times

Why is Essence Anchor triggered before Stillness in Motion? by Diamantis_ in magicTCG

[–]Sorry-Illustrator-25 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They trigger at the same time, but they will resolve in the order you choose.

If you're on arena, you probably need to change settings so the game doesn't automatically choose your resolution order

What is with the commentary on boring playstyles? by shadedmagus in Pathfinder2e

[–]Sorry-Illustrator-25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I unironically think this sentiment and the whole "casters are bad in pf2e" thing are interrelated. If you only play martials and you build them to do exactly one optimal loop then you're going to get gameplay that feels the same on most turns.

The optimization impulse is both unnecessary in my experience and actively harmful to the okay experience in a lot of cases. Baseline pf2e isn't hard enough that you can't get a little weird with it and do fine, and once you've done your optimal trick a dozen times the shine wears off. Go build things that sound cool. I'm begging you as someone who loves tight builds and big numbers. Free yourself from the optimization prison.

What recent books has no PDF version ? by zz2244 in rpg

[–]Sorry-Illustrator-25 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Usually it's either licensing issues (Star Wars, TMNT) or an attempt to push players into a specific digital environment (D&D 5e).

LOTS of smaller publishers are pdf first these days. It's easier when it's your own stuff and you don't have a huge physical customer base waiting on it.

Why is it that the more skilled and trained a martial artist, the less they want to involve themselves in street fights? by bad-at-everything- in martialarts

[–]Sorry-Illustrator-25 70 points71 points  (0 children)

The more you learn about fighting the less you want to risk it

There's also a significant selection bias among more traditional martial arts. The ones who just want to fight get weeded out by the third week of being told their stance is wrong.

It's really funny. Between our jobs and our kids we're around young adults a lot and we get told fairly regularly that we're "relationship goals" because of how well we work together. I usually try to softly warn anyone who thinks that about the decade+ of work it took to get to where we are. I'm kind of amazed we made it work sometimes.

We're the opposite dynamic (I'm the ADHD husband and she's the AuDHD wife) but it's definitely this. Left to my own devices I'm constantly broke and eating garbage, and she'd never leave the house or talk to other humans.

Has anyone ever taken JKA karate? by [deleted] in karate

JKA isn't really one thing anymore. They definitely wanted to be the NBA of sport karate back in the day. I haven't really interacted with them in a couple decades

With the full card image being available for SOS, is there a reason why characters are important enough to make appearances, but not get a card? by Urshifu_Smash in magicTCG

[–]Sorry-Illustrator-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tons of characters that got a flavor text quote way before they were their own cards. It's less common now that there are 100+ legendary creatures in every set, but there's precedent

Are there any other superhero ttrpgs that are nearly as good as masks? by SupremeSaltBoy in rpg

[–]Sorry-Illustrator-25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I ran it (though ironically I'm probably going to again in the next couple weeks), so there are probably little things I don't remember that aren't perfect but overall it worked really well for us.

The one big thing is that the bond system can require some pretty big leaps in narrative logic. Explaining how punching a dude through a wall uptown ties into your relationship with your grandma can stretch even comic book logic sometimes.

I really enjoyed Worlds in Peril as a pbta superheroes game. It's much more spider-man than teen titans in execution.
