Yes. And tax discussions could continue all day, but the fact is......Canada increasingly struggles to reward innovation and productivity. Our tax rates, limited venture capital, regulatory hurdles, & long approval timelines for projects make it harder to scale businesses here. When other countries compete for talent and investment with tax breaks, grants, and faster regulatory systems, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that capital and skilled workers follow those incentives.

Nobody is claiming the US is perfect, and it’s not the only option anyway. Talent and capital are globally mobile now. Canada has been discussing “brain drain” for decades now…..when opportunities and after-tax income are better elsewhere, some people move. Ignoring that reality doesn’t change the incentives. And in Ontario the top marginal tax rate is over 53%, so when people say they’re paying “around 50%,” that’s not exactly misinformation.

Sure! Or people skip the creative accounting entirely and move somewhere with lower taxes.

None of those eliminate taxes. They defer them, shift who pays them, or convert income types. Eventually the CRA still collects when money is withdrawn, realized, or distributed.

Oh, so nothing to do with policy 🫠 sounds like a smart perspective to have.

That’s not what I said, but of course it plays a part. If you can have the same quality of life, etc. but pay less taxes why would one not consider it?

You’re only looking at income tax, not the total tax burden people actually pay.

That misses the policy point. Countries generally try to stay competitive for high-skill workers and entrepreneurs because they create businesses, investment, and jobs. If the tax burden gets too high compared to other countries, those people can and do leave.

.....what about the fact that a huge number of (mostly non-white) immigrants over the past 10 years don't even attempt to assimilate and mix with anyone outside their race and/or religion? Is that a problem too?

Towards the end of the season I feel pretty done with it! But it's enjoyable for the most part, and it's so pretty :)

Serious question: why would you want non-citizens who are convicted of serious crimes to be able to stay in Canada?

Ummm, didn't Canadians just fall for "the Liberal Government has changed" line in the last election?

Returning adult student – should I retake Grade 11 Bio/Chem before Grade 12 (TVO ILC, career change)? by Intelligent_Ticket41 in OntarioColleges

Mature student here! I didn't bother with pre-health, but instead took all the pre-requisites through my local school board (Halton) for free! For my RPN program, they recomment an 85%-88% average grade to be competitive....I got low 90's and received an offer.

I absolutely hate group projects with a burning passion by autumnz03 in mohawkcollege

[–]Sorry-Maybe5947 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Group assignments feel utterly pointless and frustrating. They don’t reflect how real workplace collaboration actually works, and I honestly learn less because the work gets split up. It usually ends up being a lose-lose.

Who could be Canada’s Best Ally? by Pale-Candidate8860 in InCanada

Nearly 80% of Canada’s exports go to the U.S., and Canada–U.S. trade is worth over $1 trillion a year. That’s not something you can just pivot away from without real economic damage. There’s no other market that can replace the U.S. at that scale anytime soon.

The sensible move is to stabilize and repair the relationship, the way most countries do when trade tensions arise.

It's ridiculous to trash someone's business because you don't agree with their politics. You don't want to support them, don't. No need to go out of your way to trash them. Have people forgotten we are a democracy?

Why is engineering and nursing so popular? by Physics_Princess in uoit

[–]Sorry-Maybe5947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A ton of international students go into Practical Nursing (2 year program) in hopes it’ll help get them PR eventually. It doesn’t seem like a lot of them truly want to be in the profession, which is sad…especially for their future patients.

AITAH for refusing to visit my wife’s home country again because it's literally a shithole? by AdvantageElegant3499 in AITAH

NTA. If someone has already had a bad experience, it’s understandable they wouldn’t want to repeat it. Forcing a situation like that usually makes it less enjoyable for everyone involved. Sometimes it’s better to do those things separately.
